Discussing and understanding the gender wage gap can be a frustrating, tedious task. Tell me, what do you know about the gender wage gap and how do you explain it to others that may have questions or concerns?

Why not discuss the Gender Work Place Safety Gap? Do you believe it is fair that in the USA boys on their 18th Birthday are forced to go into the Draft but lucky girls are not? Is this your idea of Gender Equality?

The Data your using is way to simplistic it does not take into account hours or choices. More women are single mothers than single fathers. Being a full time parent drastically reduces your ability to earn money. The Gender Pay Gap is a Feminist Myth. Companies do not pay men more for doing identical work. Men also die more often at work. Risky jobs pay more money than safe jobs.

Just working at my company I see men come in with no experience not even a degree related to the job or super young like 23 get pushed to the front their taking manager roles or being prepped for those manager roles. While you have women who could be just as qualified if not more not given that same opportunity.

I've seen this happen often too. This is why I'm really supportive of coaching and training programs that help women find the courage to go after promotional level opportunities. Thank you for sharing.

I received an offer back in 2005 after graduate school (and years of experience)the same day as a guy in is first job. Two years later I was still in the same job while he had been promoted three times. My male coworkers with less education and experience were making more. I went to HR and eventually was fired. I am childfree so never took off for kids or anything.

I'm so confused about how this makes sense, the entire point you made: Women chose to work jobs that make less money, women work part time more often. How in the world would you not make less money if you are working the same job at less hours? HOURLY WAGES IDIOT. This entire movement is based on "annual salary" not hourly wage (which 96%) of the country is paid by.

It is about hours and choices. Companies do not pay women less for doing identical work.

Thank you for sharing, Arron. Loads of data and research prove differently which is why its such a high topic for discussion. Many factors contribute to this, but the outcome is the same that statistically, women have been paid (in many industries) lesser amounts to do the same work.

@@CareerSuccess so what companies are doing this? I need names. Sue them. How are all these companies doing this, when human resources positions are mostly women. Why wouldn't these women become heroes for their gender and become whistleblowers? Because it doesnt exist... CEOs aren't risking billion dollar corporations for wage gaps.

Women make very different job choices to men. An example of this is ChidCare the vast majority of people who CHOSE to work in Childcare are women. A high percentage of childcare workers could work in other fields where they would make a lot more money but they chose not too. In the USA the Top 5 Hedge Fund Managers earn more money than all the Kindergarten teachers combined. The top 5 Hedge Fund Managers are men as are the Majority of people working in the Finance Sector. This is wrong but it has nothing to do with Sexism. Women chose to work in fields like childcare instead of finance there is nothing wrong with it. But the reality is if you chose childcare as important as it is you will make less money than the people who work in finance. The other big issue is hours on average men work more hours than women this is know as the Gender Work Place Hours Gap. This is why Feminists never mention the Hourly Pay Difference only the Difference over the course of a year. Women also on average chose safer jobs than women as a result 94% of all work place deaths are men, dangerous jobs on average pay higher wages than safe jobs and rightly so. A person like a fire fighter who is likely to do or be seriously injured deserves more money than a person who is working is a job where there is no chance of injury or death. The Gender Pay Gap is absolute Rubbish.

Thank you for sharing and I can appreciate your opinion. Discussions about the gender wage gap focuses on the many factors have contributed unequal pay; however, the bottom line (and premise) is this. Men and women doing the same or similar work should in fact earn the same. I'm excited that there's a lot of work being done to support equal pay for equal work so that all of our friends and loved ones can earn well -- regardless of gender.

@@CareerSuccess Women and Men make very different choices when it comes to work. This means they earn different amounts of money. Men work more hours on average. Why is that? Maybe one reason is women can breast feed men cannot. This means that women will stay at home with the baby while the man works. This is one reason why men make more money on average. Men also work more dangerous jobs statistically more men die at work. The percentage of deaths at work hover between 92% and 96% all over the Western World. There is no country anywhere in the World where more women die at work than men. Dangerous jobs tend to pay higher wages than safe jobs and understandable so. There is no Company on Planet Earth that pays men more money than women for doing identical work.
