If you have the time to wait, then it will probably be worth it to wait. If you don't have the time, have the extra $100, and want the card as soon as it launches, then go ahead and get it, because either way its still a pretty damn good deal for how good the card is.

I would expect to see the Asus/EVGA/MSI cards come in around $650-$700. We have always dismissed the reference cards as inferior, it seems like nVidia wants to abolish that notion and make "their" card a worthwhile option.

So i got my 970 last month and im kinda bummed about how cheap the 1070 is. 2 Questions, 1: How long does it usually take for people like EVGA and MSI to come out with better cooler designes after launch? 2: Do i sell my 970 NOW or just keep it for a few years until it doesn't run games well enough (it's still a great card)(refunding it is not on the warranty from my retailer).
@davidjihoonchoi7988 жыл бұрын
I'm on the same boat as Cubeazza. Bought the 970 2 months ago, realized 1070 is almost the same price as a 970 and if I should wait for other models. But I know when 1070 is released the market for 970 will drop in price significantly. So you sell for less.
@MrTrdsmi8 жыл бұрын
+Cubeazza well,if it runs games well enough,why would you sell it?

+Cubeazza you may want to ask yourself this question in a couple weeks after launch and if you still want to sell your 970 just wait another month to see if they are releasing non stock editions. The only problem I have with nvidia reference designs, is that after a while the fins under the window fill with dust, and it looks terrible. Some people just want the name of having an NVIDIA card. I always thought it was pretty cool when I would sometimes be able to buy an AMD Radeon card made by...AMD. I would call it like a collectors edition. Also, I see it as a brand loyalty card and maybe they will offer exclusive DLC for games to the founders edition cards. Maybe they will let people with the founder editions cards to have first pick for the next generation card.

isn't this also a way of controlling the price celling on the base card? ie. if i can always get a 1080 for $699 from nvidia directly then i have market expectations from divergent models of the same and or similar cards from the board partners, if nvidia says they're going to stay in the space at this price regardless of if they make any direct to consumer business then price inflation would theoretically stay within a range competitive to this base model?

I afraid that this give a chance for nvdia's partner raise the price too sice reference card now is more expensive, they have more room to raise the price
@manuelsaavedra80818 жыл бұрын
actually, no. the reference here is the very best nvidia could come up with to cool these cards. unless I see a very, VERY huge boost from what was shown on the demo, I'll stick with the founders. That forces board partners to ramp up their game on performance while staying in check with the reference price
@iamkailong8 жыл бұрын
+Manuel Saavedra have you actually watch the video and understand what is reference cooler? the founder edition is nvidia's reference card, and reference card have the worst cooler, like always thats why those partners' own design card are usually a little bit more expensive than reference, for the better cooling and overclock ability this time nvidia have there own reference card price higher, the partners can raise the price of their reference card and be still competitive against nvidia's card, that's why i am afraid for example, nvidia's gtx 1080 reference card is suggested to sell at 599, and founder's edition is sell at $699, so the partners can sell their card reference at $679, still cheaper than nvidia's, and they can even ramp up the performance and sell that card even higher than founders edition, like $729 and still offering more than nvidia's card

@Dante_S550_Turbo8 жыл бұрын
+Brawndo the hybrids usually are sub par. go aftermarket water cooling or just buy the best in slot card. for example none of the hybrid 980ti's could even touch the naturally air cooled zotac amp! extreme cards stock clocks. btw i like ur name & avatar XD
@BrawndoQC8 жыл бұрын
rustypro98 I've a SLI setup, love my 2 x 980 Ti Hybrid, I live in a hot tropical climate, my pair of G1 Gaming were reaching 80-82 with a very good airflow setup in SLI. Was fine for a single card though. 44-46c when gaming with the hybrids is fine for me, and maintenance free.
@Dante_S550_Turbo8 жыл бұрын
Brawndo 80-82 is prob. the default target temps. idk why but nvidia thought it would be neat to set my target temps to 79c..... i just made my own fan profile and never get over 60c. while being relatively quiet. why the fk would anyone want a gpu running so hot XD it's like a fucking space heater.
@BrawndoQC8 жыл бұрын
rustypro98 Indeed, I wanted something quiet, and while a single G1 with their open air triple fan config was fine, as soon as I added a second one it became a hot mess and I didn't want noisy fans, so went with the hybrid. I'm too clumsy to maintain a custom loop.

A blower style cooler is way better than a open cooler if it can keep the GPU cool.

Simply Face palm
@jarmo76898 жыл бұрын
it's a lot louder though
@jeremyvolsche65908 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Mathew so like Jay said, you don't build then. A blower style cooler dumps the heat from the GPU and VRMs outside the case. This means lower case temps and better overclocking on the CPU and RAM. Noobs... Yes, that can be loud though. You get used to it.
@Orion_g68 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Volsche "A blower style cooler is way better than a open cooler if it can keep the GPU cool." All coolers keep a gpu cool. That's why their called coolers. I believe you are the "noob".
@jeremyvolsche65908 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Mathew please try to keep up. As long as your GPU stays at a reasonable temperature with a blower style cooler your case temperature will be lower than if you use an open GPU cooler. Not all blower style coolers can do this, or allow overclocking. 290x is an example. For a 290 or 290x I would not use the blower cooler used by AMD. But a 970, hell yes. Every cooling solution has trade offs, if one was the best in every situation then that's what we would all use.
@SIedgeHammer838 жыл бұрын
What a waste. I love blower style fans but I will never pay for it more then 3rd party cards that pushes the card to it's full potential. I got feeling that 3rd party companies are going to abuse it by selling it more then Founders Edition as excuses its "Better" rather then MSRP "

the Radeon RX 480's will cost $199 and perform about as fast as a Geforce GTX 980.. stop wasting money on NVIDIA
@theunknowngamer81218 жыл бұрын
Yes, as fast as a GTX 980. Annnnd two 980's are as strong as a 1080. Crossfire and SLI is becoming obsolete, so the only quality high end provider is NVIDIA.
@TheCodingle8 жыл бұрын
+TheUnknownGamer obsolete? you high? far from it. still use crossfire and it works amazingly 90% of the time. obsolete really? 2 390s outperforms the 1080 by a long shot for just over 600 bucks. slightly cheaper than the 1080 as well. to say it's obsolete cause you don't prefer it is just plain silly
@TheCodingle8 жыл бұрын
+TheUnknownGamer the fanboyism is strong with this one. I preferred Nvidia till I used my brain and realized amd has alot more to offer for your money as far s perf. per dollar. fanboyism is bad for both parties
