I feel like a lot of people confuse the ick with pet peeves. You can look past a majority of pet peeves and also have to expect that people you are with will have annoying lil traits, but the ick is so horrible because it's practically a sudden feeling that can completely change how you feel about someone

He idolized me too much…we started as friends and met at the gym. I was in a long term relationship at the time we became friends and over all we were good friends until I broke things off with the person I was with. So this person started wanting to hang out almost all of the time and he would over compliment me and idolize me. I also felt like he was pushing me a lot when it came to my dieting and fitness goals. I don’t know if it’s an actual ick but at the beginning I was flattered, now it just makes me feel so icky. Also could be because he was 13 years older than me lol.

The picks I’ve gotten: 1) the relationship was too boring and healthy so it felt like I had no “problems” to solve and we were also spending too much time and physical affection together, which made me feel claustrophobic. 2) he was having doubts about his faith and I was (very irrationally) having this “fear of the unknown” feeling 3) I’m not sure what this one but he is scary with actual red flags, so that’s probably why

I met this guy at work, he is a chef so i used to always see him in his uniform. First time i saw him outside of work i didn’t really think anything of his style, i mean it was okay. But second time, not that he was wearing skinny jeans, but he was a little bit out of style and that really triggered me. Like mooost of my attraction just disappeared. and it’s so pathetic to me, how can i stop a good relationship because of the jeans he likes to wear?😂

My ick came two weeks ago out of the blue with an ex partner who has stayed in touch with me for 15yrs. We were together 10 yrs before that. He was with someone for 10yrs after we split and i hardly heard from him but since they finished he started constant contact with me calling me every day and if i didnt answer he would keep calling until i did. I told him in the past to not keep calling as i will call back when i can. He still did this on occasions. Any hows moving on to the ick. I was on holiday, he called, i didn't answer and text him to say i was watching KZbin and would call later. He kept calling and calling, interrupting what i was watching. I ignored his calls. So the next day i told him off and asked him if he was drinking (hes not an alcoholic by the way) and he was. So i let this go even though i am his ex so he shouldn't be hounding me like this. I get back home to England. I open Facebook and hes straight on the phone to me. So now im pissed that i feel like i can't go on line without being interrupted of which i have told him off about this before. He said he had just come on his phone of which i believed him this time but because of his past actions when ive gone on line, i couldn't let it go. So i got the ick from the combination of him keep calling me when i had text him i was watching KZbin and this last phone call when i thought he had seen me open Facebook. He kept texting and I could barely respond, so he text to ask what was wrong. I couldn't be nice about it as i just didnt want any more correspondence with him and told him, i feel like i have a stalker in my phone plus I dont always want to answer my phone to him as he calls me every day and i havent got anything left to talk to him about anf that i dont like him anymore. He responded with a text to say he wouldn't call me again and blocked me on messenger/Facebook. I feel so releived i don't have these daily phone calls any more. I told him he comes across as needy. Hes not my boyfriend yet he gives me no space. Where would there be any room if i met another guy because my ex would still keep calling even if i told him i had met someone. That ick feeling just came out of no where and kicked me in the gut. I just wanted nothing more to do with him. He oversteps my boundaries. And for once in my life, I dont feel guilty for being so brazen with the truth. Hes backed off, with some people you have to be cruel to be kind. Hopefully he will meet someone now and put his energy into that

My ick is when "The Ick" is used as an excuse to control someone else's behavior, or as an excuse to completely give up on someone because you just realized they're not perfect, and especially when it is used to belittle common things (like a person's sense of style, what they choose to eat, or how they walk, etc. Just take a look at the rest of this comment section to get a guage of what I mean)
