My character drew a lot of inspiration from the post-WW1 malaise and the Lost Generation. The parallels to the Great War are so striking. It’s called the Last War (I assume Baker chose this deliberately. Last can mean the most recent or it can also mean final). WW1 was “the war to end all wars,” the last war. The human monarchs in the Last War were related to each other; during WW1 the British King, German Kaiser, and Russian Tsar were all Queen Victoria’s grandchildren. And after WW1 new nations emerged with the collapse of 4 empires: Austria-Hungary, Germany, the Ottomans, and Russia. I wouldn’t have seen the allusions to the hundred year’s war, but that’s definitely there too. What started as a dynastic conflict became a war that shaped England and France into proto-nation states with a proto-national identity as they moved from the late medieval period into the renaissance or early modernity.

Honestly, I dislike how Khorvaire-centric most info about Eberron is. Of course, it is the Western Europe/North America stand-in, but it feels that people forget that Aerenal, Argonessen and Sarlona even exist out there. Y'know, no matter how distant, all places in the world should have a noticable role in such a setting. Guess it is my Eastern European worldview speaking here, hence I tend to associate with Sarlona the most.

Well the new 5e supplement they've released is a playtest document that they have said will be updated as they go so hopefully they'll flesh out the whole world good and proper.

Jeff Eff Sarlona is mostly peaceful due to Riedra brainwashing most of populace into complacent arcadian villages, along with providing them with some basic magical (or, rather, psionic) comodities like lighting powered by psychic energy accumulators (a technique Inspired took from Sarlonan dwarves), sharply contrasting with advanced magic and fresh-out-of-war state of Khorvaire, so it is at large pretty boring. If one looks beyond lives of simple people, however, it is just a little bit lacking compared to Khorvaire: ancient demonic cities, remains of an evil magocracy, and, of course, Inspired. Sarlona seems to be written off as more high-level place than Khorvaire, but it does not justify the lack of info on various provinces of Riedra and such. Sorry.
