Trophy trucks are for running in the open desert. Four wheel drive would have helped in this demo where it looks go top out at ~40mph. But in the desert they run for miles on end at 100+ where 4wd won't help. There have been 4wd tropht trucks but they didn't prove their worth. The rules in the class allow pretty much anything save for safety considerations. It is considered an unlimited class.

Also very hard to get a CV to extend as much as the front wheels do with that suspension. they can't extend to that angle without serious compromise on strength

ja, die gleiche grube in der baja saxonia und GST abgehalten werden. Der Shot am anfong, von dem motorrad ist auf jeden fall aus diser grube. und bei 3:04 sieht man es ganz deutlich :D war auch mein erster eindruck, hab dann nochmal genauer hingeguckt als auch du das in erwägung gezogen hast. ^^

Not an LS motor. Sounds like one, but from what i've read on this truck, the whole motor was built ground up by beemer.

If 4WD was permitted in the regulations then all the trophy trucks would be running it. Trophy Trucks are RWD only as mandated in the Baja 1000 rules for that class.

All you bozos who're dissing this vid in the US are soo jealous that a European motor manufacturing legend has got something that could potentially thrash the baja trophy truck. Also the original Baja is VW which is European anyway Capitaan Prius Next, I hope to see a G wagon moddified to tackle the trophy truck along with the 5.5L supercharged V8 in 4WD. Won't be surprised if ones being modded right now.

All German Motorsports has no sponsorship with bmw in any way shape or form. they only use the bmw motor, no sponsors or collaborations from them.

It's an American chassis and suspension the truck was build and tested in the US by jimco racing. The only thing in there that is German is the driver and possibly the motor. Body panels are fiberglass; It could be made to look like a Lada if one wanted. Not a single part from an X5 is on it. Nor would a G wagon be able to be modified to perform like a trophy truck.
