You have provided a lot of food for thought. With my second z32 TT (Dynoed @ 650 Whp) we replaced timing belt plus pulleys & tensioners only with absolutely no problems over 250,000km. But ...... as my Dad used to say ....... if time & money invested is irrelevant, then replacing everything is the best option. Thanks for sharing. We have never had water pump problems and did have the 'pipe from hell' (6" half inch pipe between the heads) burst from age. That sucked 'big time'........... Thank you for sharing.

12 years ago I changed timing belt himself with factory service manual. I am impressed by the simplicity of construction, because in today's cars (Audi v6, tdi v6 , BMW and similar ) it's terrible !!!. In the 1990s, replacing the timing belt on a 300zx was terrifying for a 80% mechanics.

You did the Amazon kit plus you had to do the tensioner as well like Jesse mentioned on the video right?

I can not stress enough to only use an OEM water pump on the 300zx. The impeller design is different on every pump compared to the OEM one, and the bearings are sketch as well.... 120k kit is 600 in parts... if you pay 155 for generic parts off Amazon don't expect those parts to last. Cheaping out on your timing parts on an interference motor is NOT a good idea. GET ARP STUDS, DO NOT USE OEM STUDS. ConceptZ is better than Z1 in many cases due to shipping and other issues/drama. Granted sometimes they are cheaper on some parts, and vice versa. ConceptZ was 150 cheaper on injectors than Z1 when I last bought from them.

@@4747-u2r ya. A lot of them are remans and the quality control is just non existent. I got 6 months out of one before it failed, swapped for oem and 6 years without problems.

Always go OEM on Z32s did mine with all oem parts got the kit on blackfridsy 2018 from CZP. Nowadays when you buy a z32 make sure its been done in the last 6 years or do it right away

Very detailed video thanks for taking the time to explain. I recently stumbled on a 94 NA @ 180k. The previous owner mentioned having the timing service done and how he “watched” the guy install it. He was pretty straightforward although I’m leaning towards installing a fresh kit. The fan clutch was seized so that was a bit of a red flag for me.

@@BuildTheoryZ hey 👋 Jesse hope all well do you have any idea what could cause timing to fluctuate? At idle my timing seems to bounce around and is never a solid number. It never seems to go past 15. When I monitor through nds my RH 02 sensor sometimes stays still for a second and goes down to about 5 then back up again.

Nissan maintenance for timing belt change is every 105,000 miles for na engines unlike the turbo engine. I also needed some grommets and foam sealing strips for the timing belt covers that were available from the online shops you referenced.

I took my 1992 twin turbo to the dealer and just let them do 120k service in 2016 for Carfax purposes. Spent $1,700 for the service along with other issues but the value of these cars are going through the roof.

Yoo. I have a 300zx 93 N/a. My problem that I have is I had my automatic transmission rebuild 2 yrs ago. It was working fine . But now the car will hesitate to shift from 1st to 2nd. I will go high on rpms but I won't shift right away. Unless I let of the gas it will go into 2nd. Also the car won't respond to full throttle. When you floor the gas. The RPM will rev high but the shifting won't happen.

I don't specialize in auto trans by any means but check the Fluid level, any time I have experience any thing like that it was due to low fluid level, hose came loose or something. Checking the fluid level on an auto trans is different than oil, usually calls for a specific temperature.

Hey! I was able to negotiate $500 off the price when I bought mine, That's the cost of just the parts. Depends on your location and how in demand the car is in that area. If the deal is good and you know your goin to have others looking at the car to buy it, you might not ask for anything or negotiate when your are looking at the car and someone else cant just send them a message and offer more.
