Renihan's The Mystery of Christ is an excellent book. It's one of my top recommendations as well.

Something I believe is practical from understanding the covenant of redemption is evangelism. God has a people. We see who they are as God calls them through the preaching of the gospel. Which is something all believers have a part in. For anyone interested in a easy to understand view of the doctrines of grace may I recommend "Definition of Doctrine " by C.D. Cole volumes one and two. I enjoyed listening to you both. Do it again.

Marriage is an interesting analogy for this covenant. Because you can choose to not get married. But you can't choose to not enter this Pactum presumably. The Pactum is more like an arranged marriage, where you are forced into this arrangement you didn't choose, and are punished if you break it. Isn't that immoral?

1) Though man to man covenants are similar to divine to man covenants, we must distinguish. Because divinely instituted covenants are not a natural feature of the Creator-creature relationship, all covenants are the result of God's own free initiative to carry out his purpose and to do good for mankind. This includes, the Adamic, Abrahamic, Noahic, Mosaic, and Davidic. 2) The parties(persons) of the Pactum/cov. of redemption are the Father, Son, and Spirit. Intra-trinitarian commitments are made to one another. So though those who come to trust in Christ belong to the covenant, it isnt made with us. You dont/cant break it because it isnt made with you.

@@TheSpurgeonPiper so the Pactum is an agreement between the trinity?
@TheSpurgeonPiper2 жыл бұрын
@@bottasegreta you got it. In short, the Father to send the Son, the Son to die for those given to him, and for the Spirit to seal/apply redemption.

@@TheSpurgeonPiper but ephesians 1 seems to place a heavy burden on man. Man is not a passive observer of this covenant. There's talk of sonship through christ, redemption and the forgiveness of sin. But what is the opposite of redemption but damnation. But entering into this pactum among himself, mankind seems to me brought in against his will. At what point could man say "no, I want no part in this pact"?

@@bottasegreta bear in mind, the letter of Ephesians was written to the church of Ephesus, to those who have trusted in Christ. Ephesians 1 explains why we have salvation through him. Ephesians 2 explains are natural issue/predicament. By fallen nature, we do not belong to the covenant. We all fall outside of it as we are all sinners, under rightful condemnation. We are brought into the covenant through Christ, when our hearts are regenerated and we place our trust in him. If you have already, definitely check out the article linked in the description. It may be helpful.
