A Quiet Place: Day One (2024) is the third film in the A Quiet Place film universe and acts as a prequel to tell the story of the first day the Death Angels arrived on earth. After watching this movie, it didn't really feel like the story served the purpose of showing how humanity initially responded to the alien invasion or offer any new information about them. Maybe that wasn't the point?

I didn’t love it as much as Part 1 or 2 but as a survival thriller with aliens, I really enjoyed my time. The characters were enjoyable and Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn were excellent together. Great review

Thank you 😊 I also liked Part 1 and 2 better, and I think I would've liked Day One more if it was the first movie I watched from this franchise since the aliens would've been completely new.

My guess is everyone figured out the monsters can't swim because some of the meteors landed in the Hudson River, and people saw the monsters drowning. IDK 😅 If we get another QP movie, I wouldn't mind if it was told from the perspective of a soldier in the military. I think it would be interesting to see how the military combats an unfamiliar enemy that they don't have the training for.

That would be an interesting perspective to see! I don't know if there's a standard procedure for this category of emergencies, but it seems like they were able to gather information and give instructions to the general population rather quickly. It would be cool to see what kinds of plans they came up with to combat the aliens.

The whole tension within A Quiet Place revolves around taking the setting seriously. All the films revolved around the characters as you pointed out, but the characters are reacting to the extreme situation that the setting puts them in. If I can be fully immersed within the setting, the emotional wait won’t hit as hard. The first film was the best as it leaves a lot of ambiguity making the monsters a true terror and that was enough to sell me on everything. I actually thought the same as you that the monsters were a government conspiracy as there’s no way the world would be overrun by mindless monsters that just search and destroy the loudest sound. The second film and especially Day one really removes the tension as a really can’t believe that these monsters would have over run the whole world’s militaries. It these monsters can drown and be shot and killed then they aren’t that strong. It really seems you could just group them up then bomb them. Also the monsters don’t eat the people, they just kill them which means it’s more an invasion of conquest and not for survival. So maybe they were sent as a weapon? Idk, I think I was too hung up on these questions to really enjoy Day one as much as I probably would’ve.

Luring them to one spot and then bombing them was a thought I had as well. If civilians can figure out ways to outsmart and kill the monsters, one would think the military could also find a way to defeat them, but I guess not...haha. I also agree that the only way to really enjoy this franchise is to leave the monsters in mystery, unless they really nail the explanation which they didn't even bother to do. It would be interesting if this was all a conspiracy, and we get a huge twist in the end idk 😅 But then that might open it up to even more questions and change the focus of the story to something entirely different.

hii Jess I LOVE your quiet fade-outs at the end of videos as you mumble sth and the video just dissipates into nothingness LOL 4:42 Oh no 🥲6:08 this is hilarious 😂it's a great question.. so how do they distinguish noise from the prey from their own loud-as*es fumbling around? yeah unfortunately this franchise never had a grip on me for some reason and I didn't understand the high praises for the first two. like they were well made but not even close to top tier for me (so grumpy lol). For thrillers with quietness as the concept, Don't Breathe was sooo much more intense/scary that keeps you on the edge at all times (albeit not a monster film). And it was AcTuAlLy a thrilling & "fun ride".. Then there are films like birdbox and others that explore themes of "don't look", "don't move", "don't touch" etc so this just feels so overdone. This franchise seemed like a "what-if" documentary series for how humans live under these conditions, but the threat and the monsters are so bland and monotonous... I'm sorry for making it seem like I'm whining abt how much i hate it haha! I don't I just think its overrated xD So when I saw the consensus saying this new one isnt even as good as the other 2... I knew i should just hear your retelling of it instead of going to the theatre so at least it's fun 😆

Hey I'm glad you like the random endings! I wasn't even sure if anyone was staying until the very end 😂 I always felt A Quiet Place was like BirdBox conceptually because that's the only other movie of this kind I've seen. But yea, I can see how this franchise loses appeal over time. Especially now that the more we see these monsters the more they don't make sense, and there's no grander story to really tell. Thanks for watching my video even though you didn't see the movie/don't even like the franchise haha 😁

You're right that this movie series is more about human emotion rather than fighting aliens. Even for the first movie, the director have multiple times emphasized that the movie is about parenthood. The second one is an extension on the theme of grief and loss from the first movie. For this one, I've read an interview that the director (Sarnoski) wants to see the perspective of someone who has a different relationship with death. The thing about Sam is that her death is only estimated. It's in the poem she wrote, the one that Eric read to her during the rainstorm. The doctors mentioned 4 years, 3 years yet she still alive. So I guess that's why the arrival of aliens elevate the urgency to get that pizza more. Because this time, she can die any time just by making a noise. And it's not about tasting that pizza one last time, it's about reliving the memories she had with her father. And I kinda understand her thought process. Like what you said, why would she expect the pizza place to be running in the middle of alien invasion. But that's human nature, y'know. You hope. Like you know it's probably not there anymore, but you still want to hold on to that hope. As for the cat, the director actually did want to include scenes where the cat is hissing and stuffs. But it's unnatural to get that kind of reaction unless you scared them for real. So the director decided to just cut those scenes out cus he doesn't want to traumatize the cats. Also not all cats are the same. Some even love swimming (I'm a cat person, so I know 😂) And for this movie they hired 2 cats to act as Frodo. So my guess is for scenes with water they switch to the cat that doesn't dislike water. I agree that this feels like a side story though. But it does show what happened in the first week of the invasion. I'd say they should've titled it as A Quiet Place: Week One instead of Day One 😂 And you also question how the forces know the aliens don't like water. In the second movie it's already mentioned that there are some parts of the world where the aliens did not landed. In the first movie even, there's only 3 monsters surrounding the area that the Abbot's family live. So my guess is, those forces who announce the rescue boat etc are based in regions that are not occupied by aliens. And that's why they can fly helicopters around the city. Cuz like even starting a car would attract the aliens. And helicopters are even louder. Ain't no way they can start a helicopter with monsters around 😂 And that's probably how they found out about the aliens not being able to swim. And like you said, this movie is about emotional response. If they shown the military stuffs that would makes the movie political instead. As for the lore about the aliens, I read that the director did not want to spell it out directly to the viewers. Like the egg scene. So, the lore does expand a little. We now know why they don't eat humans but use humans (like somekind of organic fertilizers) to farm their food. And they also hunt in packs. I'm guessing they're saving other infos about the aliens for the last movie. Hopefully 🧍

Haha, I was actually considering putting A Quiet Place: Week One in my thumbnail 🤣 But that's an interesting point about Sam's estimated remaining lifespan, and puts into perspective why the alien invasion gave her that final push to do the one last thing she wanted to do. I think it would've made more sense if her goal was to visit the Jazz club to relive the memories of her father rather than eating pizza. I liked how the cat was like the light of hope throughout the movie, and especially for Eric because he probably wouldn't have survived without it calming him down 😂 In a way that also made the cat seem like an ethereal angel that could've been an illusion lol. Oh, I hadn't thought about the Aliens using humans as fertilizer for their food source. I just assumed that egg thing was also brought to earth on the same meteors they came on, so their food source is limited 🤔 But if they can produce more, then that will be interesting to see. Overall I do like how this franchise is more focused on different aspects of the human story, and I think the reason I started questioning the aliens more is because they keep making more movies that seem like they want to expand on this universe or feels like this story as a whole is supposed to be going in some direction. But as more movies come out, it just seems like the world building is a bit lacking, and this one in particular didn't really progress the overarching story. Maybe the last movie will tie it all together 🤞

I never thought about that. Why don’t they just use echolocation? For me the most unrealistic thing was how many times they took that cat for a swim and it was just chilling out, also basically totally dry even after being submerged under water
@JessInDreams7
@JessInDreams7 2 ай бұрын
Oh yea, the cat was unreal 😂 People are saying it's a service animal, so that's why it's so well behaved. But even so, I don't think it would be very happy being completely submerged in water so many times.

I just love that on a planet that's like 70% water they were lucky enough to land in New York and Shanghai rather than the Pacific ocean. It's also worth pointing out that horses, of all creatures, have such good hearing that they can even hear a heartbeat from a few feet away. so... really when you think about it, these creatures actually have terrible hearing. but i do have a soft spot for creature horror, lol.
@JessInDreams7

Yea, if the creatures can hear a shirt rip inside a building from the outside, it definitely should've been able to hear a heartbeat from a human right next to its ear if they wanted to be consistent... 😂

@@spec2be oh, if i remember right in this movie they weren't ships but fragments of their original home planet, which blew up. so they were just flying through space for billions of years in hibernation on these little planetary fragments until they hit earth I guess? idk. i've mostly just resigned myself to the fact screenwriters and directors know nothing about space and the concept of galactic distances confuses them.

Honestly making cat deaf and mute due to his illness(it would explain why cat in hospital,my cancer friend had sick dog to care about) could kinda help to explain how cat keeps silent in situation whre no one on earth can😂
@JessInDreams7

That could be the case, since it also seemed like none of the humans were even concerned about the cat making any noise.

I don’t understand is the attack happens during the day..the government didn’t blow the bridges until nightfall😂😂 Why wait that long to do that? The aliens could have crossed the bridges long before that. And considering it was a worldwide catastrophe..why blow the bridges anyways?
@JessInDreams7
@JessInDreams7 2 ай бұрын
Haha maybe they didn’t know the aliens couldn’t swim until a few hours later 😅 but that would also mean some of them probably already crossed the bridge by then, and even if they didn’t, you’re right about there being aliens that landed in other parts of the world so…yea it was kind of useless to bomb the bridges lol It was probably for dramatic effect, and I guess it worked on me because I was like nooo not Brooklyn Bridge 🥹
