I believe in fasting. It is definitely terrible if you have the wrong mind set for sure. But it does work with prayer of course. I fasted one time for 10 days. The first 3 days were the toughest but God sustained me and at the end He healed me of an eye issue, blood sugar issues and a back injury. It's a challenge at times but it can definitely pay off.

Sorry but you are gravely mistaken, your Body is not the same as your flesh. The flesh is a term used in scripture to describe the sinful nature of man. Like lust for example. Lack of food doesn't hurt your lust (that is your flesh) it only hurts your body. Fasting is a sacrifice to God. It demonstrates to God how badly we want something. It says to God, I need this answer more than I need food. I have to disagree and say that this pastor has missed the sign posts laid out by God as to the purpose of a fast. It is a logical, purposeful election to deny oneself with a reason. Let me explain. A fast in The Bible is cleancut but people miss the overall purpose and only focus on what they can see physically. A fast is actually an intense form of repentance and a self-induced denial of satisfying bodily and mental needs to focus on God alone. Everyone has done a fast during a calamity, they just don't realize it. For example, when my mother was in the hospital with a heart attack, I couldn't think of eating or doing anything I enjoyed doing. My focus was on her well being, I was in constant prayer with God and repenting of everything I felt was wrong in my overview of what led up to this event. I didn't think about food or delights. I focused on her and her alone in my conversation with God. Fasting is pretty much an intense form of putting everything to the side and doing what is right before God. It is turning to Him in a moment of need. A reassessment of everything, a repentance of many ongoing sins. A time of getting and doing right between lamentations and intense prayer. That is why in the Bible God criticizes Israel over their practices of fasting. They aren't supposed to put on sackcloth and starve themselves and put on grueling faces from hunger. He points out they missed the entire point. It is about repentance of evils they have done, (putting on sackcloth is only an outward sign). It is about drawing closer to God and intensifying your relationship to God. You will fast naturally when something isn't right. You'll call out to God and draw near to him. You will deny yourself bodily desires. You will focus on Him and where you have come up short. You will feed the hungry, dress the naked, be and do righteousness in His sight long after your moment of trouble has come and gone. You will love the Lord with all you might, spirit and heart. If you focus on simply not eating and prayer, you have missed completely what fasting actually is. The more your relationship with Christ and God grows the more access to God you will have and He will look after your needs. Obey Him. Fasting is an intensification of your walk with the Lord. As a consequence you put aside all distractions and you do His will. Whether it be in your time of need or in your time of peace. I hope God blesses whoever has read this and granted them understanding on the topic of fasting.

Jesus woke His disciples and told them to pray that they enter not into temptation. So we could deny sleep even if for one hour to pray. And to the single and celibate, I think that is a great opportunity to have a strengthening of prayer life. All part of denying ourselves, taking up our cross and following Jesus. I think that fasting has many purposes for yourself and your relationship to God: 1. You will get to know yourself better, you can know that you are able to live with less than you think you need. Because of this you become more thankful towards God because you know how blessed you really are. (--> Love your God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength) 2. You will get a new perspective towards poor people who cannot afford enough food. You must be harder here. 1/3 days fasts are baby fasts. Christians must train to fast 10 + days. I did 7 days in high sommer while running after a small child. Not that hard after 3rd day. Amazing experience, but saw demons and had my wallet stollen towards the end of my fast.

When we fast, we fast to be filled by the Lord’s Holy Spirit and to get closer to the Lord through His Son Jesus Christ! Fasting also empties you of yourself. Demons cling to the our bodies and remain there until we either cast them off in the name of Jesus or in many cases to starve them out through fasting! Hate to disagree, but fasting doesn't only have to be for a higher purpose to pray for something specific. It can be simply a discipline of the flesh, to put that old man down in a big way. When this is done regularly, it becomes easier to sense what IS the flesh as opposed to what is the spirit and what is God's Spirit. It makes the mind and spirit more sharp and the flesh gets told to "shut up!" I do it and have for years, at least twice a week and sometimes for more days in a row. It has become easier and there is such a difference in me and my attitude on my fasting days. It is so much easier to be still with God. Easier to be quiet in spirit. Easier to put down my own desires and opinions and that ever-puffed-up ego. It is easier to identify the flesh and understand his wiles. Apparently, it gives power against Evil, too, as Jesus said. I would encourage all Christians who think they may need the power to walk in discernment and power to fast regularly until our Groom is again present with us.

The minimal-eating fast would be very difficult with "just bread" or "just rice," since they're high carbohydrates, which shoots up insulin and makes you SUPER hungry -- a lot more than eating nothing (hunger lessons the less times you eat!). Butter or coconut/MCT oil (in coffee or broth or something) does not impact insulin, so it keeps blood sugars stable. Also, quality *salt is necessary* for dizziness and headaches (the body dumps electrolytes when switching from burning sugars/starches in food to burning your fat stores).

Fasting is of the Ceremonial aspect of the Law of Moses, now abolished. Found early, and always in the gospels, before his death and resurrection, not after. The gospels transition from Old to New, and that cannot be missed lest we subject Christians to go about fulfilling the law (works) which the Lord has fully accomplished already. God hears a Christian always, without fasting being required nor needed.

I want to add that after two days (depending on what your diet is before the fast) the hormone that controls the waves of hunger completely dissipates. Also, focus and energy go through the roof. What this means is, the hunger pains won't be there in a longer fast -and- you will have more mental clarity and more time to pray. People who do prolonged fasts often say that by the third day they have so much energy that they don't need to sleep nearly as much and they feel like they could work our for hours. Perhaps longer fasts have the benefit of giving us amazing laser focus and the energy to put into praying that we don't usually have when we eat on a regular basis. We are fearfully and wonderfully made!

I'm 20, this Is my first time fasting and Is not for me. A very dear friend of mine is battling with depression because of the horrible environment that surrounds her in the church. It Is full hatred and contempt and lacks love in every teaching and councel. While praying and pouring my heart to God and telling Him what was wrong and how useless I felt for being unable to help in any other way than praying for her and her family, He brought peace to my heart and told me that all Is going to be fine, after some time. His Spirit reminded me of Job 8:21-22 and 1 Peter 1:7. Then He placed this desire of fasting in my heart and understanding what it was, so I ended up here. I know that Jesus said "In the world you will have tribulations, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world". And I trust in this with all my heart, even If an answer seems impossible and deliberance is nothing but nonsense in my eyes, but He has promised this things so I will wait. Just that, He knows better and understands better than anyone ever will. Proverbs 16:1-3 is also a comfort passage right now. Thank you for reading this, I just needed to take it off my chest. God will sustain us, He will deliver her family. I trust even If everything else Is wrong and nothing seems to get better. Job 8:5-7 I ask, If anyone came this far, that you help me to pray for them. I tried so hard to fast for my boyfriend for three days and I was already suffering in excruciating pain from injuries that went untreated by insurance denials. It was so difficult I was literally on my couch for those days. And every time I was hungry I kept drinking water. It was so bad I didn’t think I could make it through! When I finally did, I was completely out of commission for days! I lacked energy even worse than going in and it’s residual effects were even worse even to this day. When I started eating again, I noticed my stomach shrunk but somehow gained weight even though I was eating less! All around, it was very damaging. My body is supposed to be the Temple of the Holy Spirit! Christ said that certain demons can only be removed by prayer and fasting. So Lord God Help Me! I’m going to try to do this for him again, trusting in Christ.
