Gosh! The best explanation i've heard. I really don't want to mention others that just attempt to answer this but end up confuing one more. Everyone of them talks from an expert position and forget that everything happens in stages. I'm so glad that he mentioned and stressed the gradual process of it with the "kiss from God" analogy. That is succint. It takes a gradual process. In short, entering the stage without the gradual process means a whole lot of learning about how it comes to be is skipped which isn't good for the individual. Thank you for this excellent explanation.

When Consciousness is all there is, I (as consciousness) "see" no "objects"; therefore, there is no need for either attention or stretching. Of course, this needs a clear cognition as a FACT that "I" am the source and "stuff" of Body/Mind/Objects and yet "I" remain untouched by the appearance or disappearance of them.

I experienced exactly what You said, that „kiss of god” on LSD three times. First time I had blissful experience and realized for the first time in my life that I was something more than just what I can see. But then I lost it and my practice came. Two times more I experienced very deep LSD trip where I went basically mad because I was in eternity of duality and it felt like there is no peace and eternal stillness. It felt like there is only movement and maddnes forever and ever. But after that phase of trip something new and ultimately freeing emerged and I got a glimpse of real freedom beyond any concept of freedom, beyond duality. But then I lost it again and went from total freedom to total Ego and it was so painful. Today I can say with confidence that it is so good and joyful to be myself and it is so easy and I know I found that state that I experienced on LSD. Peace beyond any concept, any division. Love and light everyone ❤️❤️❤️
Culadasa put it this way in his book. The mind is made of systems and subsystems that work together or are competing. The winners enter the conscience. And being aware is one part of the mind looking at one another. In other words The mind is awareness and awareness is the mind. They are the same. Attention is one part of the mind that won the grasping competition for a certain time. The mind or the planets are the same, they attract or push away stuff. Duality is their job.

In order to be aware of one's consciousness, you have to presume consciousness as an object. Thus what is it that is aware of consciousness? Isn't being aware of being aware implying that something is aware of awareness - what is that which is aware of awareness?

@Richard Gallagher: Yes, that's THE question, no doubt about it. Rupert addresses it specifically in numerous videos . . .

In the 8 limbs of yoga codified by Pantanjali, prior to Samadhi is Dharana and Dhyana. The latter two are forms of intense concentration. Dhyana being the most intense. Rupert seems to be saying that his method does not require attention and concentration. Maybe similar to Ramana Maharishi's method of self-inquiry. However, I believe Rupert also practiced forms of concentration such as mantra and prayers for a time. Did those practices lead him to enlightenment or Samadhi? Or did he find them to have little value and tried a new course? I believe that most of us on the path follow the road of attention and concentration which somehow leads to meditation or one realizes its futility and just lets go. Maybe all practices are futile except they do give one some solace that he/she are on a path at least. Concentration does release one from the habitual habits of the mind. A sort of step-by-step dismantling. Quite possibly when most of the mind's disassembly is accomplished, one can see glimpses of light and one can slip out from one of the cracks. Rupert Spira seems like such a wonderful and patient honest compassionate soul. Nice to have his help. Thank you.

Thanks for fantastic video, it explains alot. But one thing i struggle with in my practice is when i let go of attention and just relax "as the watcher", for a short while im in this state of consiousness. But pretty fast other thoughts arrive and i get confused how to get back to this "watcher" feeling? Should i use fokused attention and then try to relax until thoughts arrie again, and after a while i can be in this "watcher" feeling longer? Or is it more to try just to relax all the time, or something ele? I have been meditating focused on breath for 3 years, so i guess i will need to try to learn some new habits, but confused how to do it? best regards

@shashabooee Thanks for taking the time to answer. If i understand you right, its more like dont strive for nothing or emptiness, the thoughts that arise, they arise, just let them do that, but try not to get the thoughts to stick or pay attention to them? I f this is correct, may i ask how you do this ? meaning, if i would like to get rid of my attention on whatever, lets say what food to eat, i would usually replace the food thought whith something else, like thinking on love, friends or whatever. But whith this i have only replaced the food thought with another thought. If you have any advise on "how to let go of the thought that suddenly have gotten my attention" i would greatly appreciate it? Best regards

@shashabooee Great thanks for the help this sentence feels incredibly helpful "Rather, abandon the attempt to let go of anything and namelessly observe to movement of what is" i will for sure make use of it. best regards and big love to you

Yes, but since there is no doer, no chooser of the object of attention, what is it that, for example, notices attention wandering and “chooses” to return attention to an open focus of experience of the present moment ? I suppose it’s all just happening by itself, eh ? It seems that there is nothing to do but relax into the wonder of it all .
I’m curious, what definition of consciousness is being used? I’m writing a paper on this (or taking a break from it actually), and the first problem in this video which I can’t get past is that consciousness isn’t defined. The definition my paper is bound by is essentially that consciousness is awareness; the subjective and reportable experience of sensations/perceptions (to give a simple description). With the definition just described, there is evidence that attention can exist without consciousness, and vice versa.
@roaam784 жыл бұрын
consciousness , as you rightly mentioned is just what one is conscious of. Perceptions including mental forms. For me the key differentiator is that consciousness has qualia - a felt quality to it (Including thoughts - you know the difference between the thought of a cow and thought of a mountain). However attention does not have a qualia. It cannot be grasped. A simple exercise would be to move the attention from this computer screen to the sensation on your feet - and then try to find how did that attention move - can it be grasped as a form ? And how can attention exist without consciousness - that only time you are without consciousness is during dreamless deep sleep. Did attention exist then ? Intention precedes attention.

Do you agree that what is "attention" for Krishnamurti (awareness without choice) is the same as for Spira is awareness, or pure consciousness?
@timaeontalks28025 жыл бұрын
one can seek the source of attention, what directs attention. There seems also to be some confusion between Awareness and Consciousnss.
@QED_4 жыл бұрын
@Timaeon Talks: Spira uses "awareness" and "consciousness" . . . synonymously. You can make a distinction between the two . . . but Spira doesn't think it's important to do so for what he's pointing to. I tend to agree . . .
@VirendraSingh-iu2nc3 жыл бұрын
Could consciousness move? Perhaps the reflected consciousness move to boards the object. Consciousness is dimensionless therefore can't move. Where it move? Movement always happens in time and space while consciousness is beyond time and space.

Thank you for the great knowledge. I have never seen someone articulate these complex things like you do. I have a question , could you please clarify. This is my understanding based on your videos. I/Me = Awareness. Awareness is like a laptop screen and movie played in the laptop is like the contents of the Awareness. Awareness being Aware of itself is the purest knowledge. I understand that part. My question is this. When a movie (thoughts or any objects) is played in the laptop (awareness) , does awareness (ME) have to "do something (like focus itself to an object in itself, which is called attention)" to be aware of the movie ? I think this is called attention correct? Meaning "me" (awareness) become aware of objects played in itself , correct? So are we saying, awareness (me) will not be aware of it's contents without "drawing myself" to an object which is played within me (awareness) ?
