Honestly the reason why I don't care much is that the only situation in which I can see this making a difference is in eSports, and every single eSports driver is aware of all weaknesses of the game and all of its exploits, just like the 60 FPS cap making you ride kerbs. So for eSports they will probably rule it out if it becomes an actual meta, and for the rest (average players) it's not worth it so why even worry about it.

I feel like if you had found the difference was more than 1 second per lap (essentially much greater hypothetically) you wouldn't have dismissed it as not rule breaking so easily. Essentially tricking the software into thinking you are using a controller you are not using, to gain an assist that was not meant for you to have, however you achieved this - is fundamentally cheating. It's not the same as finding tarmac no one knows about, or creating more flexible wings, it's gaining an advantage that was not meant for you. I love your content Alex, but on this I fundamentally disagree with your logic and reasoning. The fact that it's minor is great, the fact that such an exploit exists and anybody is fine with it, is not.
@apophisstr67194 ай бұрын
Exactly, doesn’t matter if it’s 1 sec or 0.0001 sec faster, if you gain an advantage by exploiting something completely unintended by design of the platform, it’s cheating
@AlexGillon4 ай бұрын
It's a good way of looking at it and I don't disagree with the points you made. I think, for me, as long as it's not taking advantage of a bug, it's fine. What if it was found that no FFB was faster? Should we force people to run FFB? It is a hard line to draw and even harder to police and imo it's an unwinnable war on a game that is not dedicated entirely to esports Our ideals simply can't be met, as long as the playing field is level, that is all that matters. You could actually argue that there are bigger financial misjustices in esports than whatever advantage this might give. But, as I said in the video, the rulebook is a different matter. This probably should be outlawed in esports competitions. But beyond that, it's just part of playing a mainstream game
@MikeAsano4 ай бұрын
@@AlexGillon (*me excited to get a reply yelp*) Once again I respectfully disagree. FFB can be turned on or off, and is a choice. If it did auto-magically give you traction/steering assist, then yes - it should be enforced in fair competition. Otherwise it wouldn't be fair and any competition therefore pointless. If tomorrow Red Bull were found that their steering wheel was tricking the breaks into doing things they shouldnt to give the driver a breaking/steering advantage it would be wrong and banned. So is the case here. I guess I just don't understand the Formula 1/E-sports logic of 'loop holes are great and fair' coming from an olympic sport that despised such ways of gaining advantage over other competitors. But you are right, it's just a game and there's only so much you can do lol.
@HH-lj7vm4 ай бұрын
The rules do not outlaw this 'exploit', so it's not cheating. It's a bit sad (unless you are top 0.01% driver) more than anything. It's about having fun, which is why I follow AG's content more closely than other F1 creators.

@@MikeAsano i think the biggest difference between F1/Esports and for example olympics, is that F1 is a technical sport and it is punishing people to make new ways to win and at the same point olympics is about who is better in THIS thing, no cheating, just skill. How do you explain the unassigned only appearing at 50% throttle? You can even see the driver (you know who) deliberately tipping the throttle over 50% just before the race start to activate whatever it is when they are pulling off the line. It might be something else at play. Perhaps a grip hack that activates for a few seconds to help accelerate out of corners when the throttle reaches 50% and the software that does the change makes the bindings change. It's too soon to just fully dismiss this.

I don't understand the mentality of people who say "this glitch/bug is in the game so it shouldn't be considered cheating." It is obviously unintended, hence having to fool the game into thinking an input is something that it isn't. This is a competetive esport, with hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line. Of course this is cheating. It's cheating in the normal game. In every sense, this is cheating. It is not the way the game was designed to be played, it is against the spirit of the game. If you have to use an external program to trick the game - it is cheating.
@Dont14-r4k4 ай бұрын
Nope, by definition this isn't cheating, it's taken advantage of in game mechanics. Otherwise almost every single farm in Minecraft for example would be considered "cheating". Wheels are technically outside software that gives a player a big advantage. Should we ban those too for cheating? Clearly not. Then using other devices also shouldn't count as cheating. It's unintentional but that's literally the spirit of the sport as a whole, bend the rules (or in this case mechanics) to be in your favor.

@@Dont14-r4k Minecraft is irrilvent to the conversatuon unless thats a comoetsive sport? It's against the spirit of the sport. Is the point of F1 Esport to find the fastest driver or who has the best exploits? Once you start to split hairs on if it's cheating or against the spirit of the regulation it just needs to be banned or maybe every team should have a computer program to maximize performance via the best exploits. Once you're setting your wheel and pedals up in a dodgy way to gain an advantage that was unintended by the game designers you should be under no illusions your cheating especially when prize money is involved.

@@DaveGething yes Minecraft is a competitive sport, ever heard of speed running? @pasztorferenc67414 ай бұрын
I don't think it's how meant to be used. Assist for those who use controller or keyboard, using with a wheel is exploiting a bug A different example: in a DHL time trial competitions rule book said contacting with a wall invalidate your lap time, but the game already does it, most of the time. I succesfully hitted the wall and finished a valid lap - if this count as cheating(?), because I clearly hit the wall, which the game should detect, but according to the game I didn't hit the "wall"
@EagleGhost84 ай бұрын
You are completely wrong. This is cheating! As people on console can't have this advantage as it can improve your driving it's unfair. Also you can't be comparing the normal and cheating handling so easily and quickly. To master a handling model, it takes a lot of time and effort. When you use the cheating method for a long time, the advantage difference you notice will be probably a lot bigger and DEFINITELY for Esports drivers.
