What’s sad about Aeroflot 1492 (a Sukhoi SSJ-100) is that everyone initially survived the crash, but while the plane caught on fire and people needed to evacuate, a lot of people were getting their luggage from the overhead bins. And so the people in the back didn’t have enough time to get out of the plane. Unfortunately only 37 of the 78 passengers survived. Everyone might have survived if people hadn’t prioritized their luggage.

"Flying Coffin" or "Death Chamber" are also some of the names I heard. Statistically though, that plane was as safe as any in the 70s and 80s, most of its reputation came from McDonnel-Douglas being a shit company, rather than the aircraft itself being particularly unsafe. There was a major flaw in its cargo door locking mechanism, that McDonnel-Douglas knew about since before the first aircraft had been delivered, yet refused to address until it brought down a whole aircraft full of passengers (Turkish Airlines 981). Shortly after, American Airlines Flight 191 happened, and even though that was proven to be caused by AA taking shortcuts with their maintainance (rather than another design flaw), the media had already crucified the plane, and many people would straight up refuse to board them. On one hand it's ridiculous, as the DC-10 actually had fewer design-related fatal incidents than early 747s (and nobody was afraid to fly these), on the other McDonnel-Douglas kind of got what they deserved.

In my opinion, I back the A320. No fatal accidents in 2024, and none of its most infamous deadly accidents are attributed to A320 design flaws. Cause of Sully emergency landing? Unlucky bird strike. Germanwings 9525? Suicide attempt of copilot. EgyptAir 804? Pilot dropped a cigarette. PIA 8303? Pilot error. Now, as for 8501… Yes the RTLU did have a crack in it, but Airbus never intended for that in its RTLU design. The main causes are AirAsia maintenance failing the properly diagnose the issue and, of course, Captain Iriyanto making the decision to cut the circuit breakers… Still, RIP to those who lost their lives Be thankful that you can easily trust the A320 with your lives in 2024 ❤

Judging by the recent fatal crashes in the past decade, we’re expecting one or two major crash with 50-200 fatalities every year. Like in 2020, we had Ukraine International flight 752, 2021 saw the crash Sriwijaya 182 and then a year later in 2022, we had China Eastern 5735 then this year in 2023 was Yeti airlines flight 691. So hopefully, the frequency of a major plane accident occurring will continue dropping going into 2024

Me choosing between an a380, a350 and 787 is so hard. They are safe, efficient, quiet, spacious and beautiful. The other day I saw a 787(Ethiopian Airlines) and I was just staring. I also saw an a350(from the same airline) and I took a photo of it. And the a380. Since it doesn't fly to Lusaka it is rare to see but you can see it at about 14 45(2 45) local time on some days. The conclusion is: *if plen modern, plen no crash and plen no mcas me likey plen.*

As of June 2024, Airbus A350 had a crash long long time ago, i think you've already know that. Boeing 787 wasn't safe at all after the LATAM 787 falling incident and some underrated problems. I think the safest plane was still A350 because it didn't caused fatalities on the plane itself by the protection of the strong-lived materials outside.

I would actually call the Embraer E-Jet (Not ERJ!) one of the safest planes. They fly very often, and only have one crash attributed to the actual plane, and not pilot error. A lot of planes get tainted by large crashes, like the DC-10. It just became 'Unsafe' in the public eye, after a few crashes, though it wasnt much more dangerous than other planes of that era.

In my opinion, I think it’s the A220 (which is very obvious) but I would also consider the 737 of Ryanair, why? Because they haven’t had a single crash (most serious accident was a bird strike but the plane didn’t crash and there was a lot of ground collisions so yeah)

The A340 had 1 crash its etihad airways it crashed into the toulus when it was having a test-flight this happen during take-off. And the worst part is the airline did not order it. :(

I'd say the best method of judging is by the cause of an aircraft's major accidents. Just because some dumbass maintenance worker or rain on a runway goofed over a flight doesn't mean the BAE 146 is a complete death trap. If the vast minority are mechanical, then that should speak to a plane's good engineering standing, like the Boeing 747. Sure, it got involved in many fatal accidents, but it usually involved pilot error (Tenerife collision), faulty maintenance (Japan Air Lines 123), etc. A plane like the DC-10 with it's very reliable cargo door should maybe get a small consideration...
