You are definitely correct about how hard Tournament level paint hits compared to field paint. You definitely feel a huge difference when getting bonus balled by four and five-star level paint, and your average one and two star field paint. Field paint most definitely lays into you much harder where Tournament level paint is not much of a bother. And I also have to say, as a referee at a couple recreational fields that I work at where we accommodate both 50 cal and 68 Cal to our players, I swear those 50 cal paintballs produce a more intense sting when they hit than even the 68 Cal field paint, at least at closer ranges anyways. I honestly think the airsoft BB's hurt the least, but then again I have never been hit on bare skin on the Torso either so my clothes would have absorbed most of that sting.

I haven't played with 50s yet. I figured they'd hurt a decent bit less. I guess now that I think about it, it's probably because the force is applied to a smaller area, so it stings a bit more. Also, at least at my field, for the low impact players, they also chrono the markers a bit lower since it's mostly younger kids playing paintball for the first time, so maybe that also helps.

They had 500ct boxes of PMI premium with the metallic two tone shell for like $9.99 and it was cheap for the quality (same stuff was like $50 a case online if you could get free shipping)

Frozen Paintballs, having played for Team 32 Degrees in Alaska I can tell you, a paintball that is chilled and not even frozen hurts like hell. A frozen paintball will leave dents in car doors! 100% Lethal.

What was that brand of paint Wal-Mart sold??? Zapp??? You could only buy it by the case and each case was a plastic container with a handle. Those things shot pretty well for a $35 a case, but the shells were hard and the majority of shots bounced. Those hurt like hell. Also, they changed the formula of the paint to an oil or wax base without saying anything and our whole team had yellow stains on their gear, the bunkers had a yellow shot stain that damn near couldn't be washed away, and the field owner got pissed at us because there was yellow paint EVERYWHERE that you couldn't wash off lol. Good times. I think I still have a stain on my jersey from like 15 years ago from them lol. I used to play in tournaments at the D3 level for like 4 years when I was younger. I remember playing in the 07 world cup in D4 in Orlando. I miss playing, but it was too expensive for a 19-20 year old living at home, working a full time minimum wage job, and going to college full time as well. I always told myself that when I got older and can afford to burn through 5 cases of a decent quality paint a day by myself every practice, can afford the best of the best equipment, and can afford tournament fees/hotel costs/travel costs that I'd get back into it, but life went on and I grew away from the sport. I loved every second of it. I'm 34 so I still have time to get back into it, but I feel like those days are gone. GREAT times though!!!

Years ago I was playing at a local venue on the weekend. Just about 35 or 40 teens and adults. I had bunkered an opponent and he called for a paint check but I hadn't heard him. I lit up his position and he leaned forward and exposed the top of his freshly shaved head.😮. He was part of a group out for somebodys stag party and they had all shaved their heads because the groom was already bald. He wore a bright pink tyvek paint suit and did not ger away unscathed that day. Buddy who I shot in the dome about 5 or 6 times was furious. I just hid while he was looking around to see who did it. And about 10 ft away from me, a 15yr old teammate stood up and went for a different bunker. Dude didnt do anything but glare at the kid all day. I kinda felt bad but it was comically perfect timing. Phew. Lol.

Dude your lucky to not get hit twice in the same spot,.THAT hurts on a whole new level. Also I think when police use riot balls the velocity is still near 300 fps. A standard paintball weighs 3 grams, riot rounds weigh Almost 9. So a riot round will have about 3x the impact energy!

This is one of the more scientific tests I've ever seen on paintball ballistics. I'd love to see a comparison with frontal shots, because they're definitely more common, and I don't think spine shots are a comparable example.

The first strike round should only be more painful from farther away, because of how it maintains velocity. I think they're slightly lighter than the average paintball, so up close they should be less painful.

​@normang3668 Thats exactly what it is. People complain about them "hitting harder" but as far as ballistics are concerned, roundball has more energy out of the barrel as long as FPS is consistent between the two.

As a trainer of the PepperBall system, we do not use a steal ball to shoot people with. We use pepperballs that you can't break with your fingers by squishing them, which're moving at 400 FPS. We use ceramic rounds that are used for glass breaking. No Steel balls were used, and not at people. I would like to know where you got your information on the steel round so I can learn more. I honestly don't think I've seen a vid where someone tested all the various kinds of paint you can shoot, etc. Also, I thought it was hilarious you thought the "low impact" one hurt a lot, or I think you did. Those things are vicious out of a Tippmann, the emeks are like gellyblasters. Great job, again, just maybe show guns getting capped or whatever so newer viewers don't get the idea that you can just suddenly lift your mask whenever.

One of the 1st times my friends and I played back in the day, someone left all their gear (including paintballs) outside overnight. Long story short, the paintballs froze, my mask broke exposing my forehead, and my buddy shot me in the forehead. It felt like I got shot with a marble or a rock, and left a nasty welt right in the center of my forehead. Stung like hell, but worth the story lmao. Good times.

first strikes weigh less, they often dont hurt as much. theyre meant to be chrono at 280. they bounce more often if theyre under280, bounces hurt more than breaks...

Your right. When a paintball breaks it absorbs more of the impact so a bounce transfers more energy, that's why it hurts. Never messed with FSR so all of there mechanics and how they work is base level for myself.

Back in the day (Im old) the worst BY FAR was a wallmart brand called monsterball. You could stomp on the bag and none would break. You couldn't break them with your fingers. They wouldn't break even at 20 feet if you hit someone right flush on the skull. I saw people literally get knocked out. Left HUGE welts. I mean like the size of half an apple.

When i was in university, i played one game, A versus B, B versus A, melee. There are some people wondering how to run and shoot, at the same time. Year 2023, many had practiced how to run(jog) "floating" lightweight style. They can now play paintball with riot-rounds for no-need to count, just laugh at bruises, type of fun. Gas is butt of short-rifle. Those type of guns. Upper torso and hands islolated from waist, waist(again) and legs. Zero "weapon", parabolic-trajectory distance compensation. Let them hurt.

reballs usually atleast my experience they run them usually slow velo. my field as a kid that used them ran them at 250fps
