Ethnogenesis of the Turkic peoples. Languages, peoples, migrations, customs. Andrey Tikhomirov, 2020 "The Turkic peoples are formed on a vast space in the Altai Mountains. In the process of development of Turkic peoples - their carriers, dialects and languages were formed, characterized by similarities - as a result of the unity of their origin and by differences, which are explained by the collapse of the common base language into dialects, and then into separate languages and groups of languages."

Turkic languages are very similar on the whole, except for the highly divergent Chuvash language of the Volga region of Russia . I would say they differ less on the whole than say, the Germanic languages . They certainly aren’t all mutually intelligible, but it’s still quite easy for speakers of the different Turkic languages to learn one of those which are not immediately intelligible . For example, there’s probably less difference between the Uighur language and the Turkish of Turkey than between German and Danish despite the fact that German and Danish are geographically right next to each other and Turkish and Uighur are geographically very distant .

Turkish is mutually intelligible, barring vocabulary differences, with the Turkic languages spoken in adjacent areas, in particular Gagauz, Qashqai, Salar, Azerbaijani, Uzbek, and Turkmen, and a speaker of Turkish can be understood as far east as Kyrgyzstan. Strictly speaking, the "Turkish" languages spoken between Mongolia and Turkey should be called Turkic languages, and the term "Turkish" should refer to the language spoken in Turkey alone. It is common practice, however, to refer to all these languages as Turkish, and differentiate them with reference to the geographical area, for example, the Turkish language of Azerbaijan.

@@yo2trader539 Sinitic sources like Weishu also mentioned language of Xiongnu: The history of the Gaoju is given in the respective entry in WS 103 + (pp. 2505-2508); until the beginning of Text 1.056/B it is extracted as follows. 高車,蓋古赤狄之餘種也初號為狄歷,北方以為敕勒,諸夏以為高車、丁零。 其語略與匈奴同而時有小異,或云其先匈奴之也。 The Gaoju are probably the remaining tribes of the ancient Chidi [lit. 'the red Di']. Initially they were called Dili. People in the north called them Chile, whereas people in China proper called them Gaoju or Dingling. Their language is roughly the same as that of the Xiongnu but at times has minor differences from that. Some say that their ancestors were the nephew of [i.e. indirectly related to] the Xiongnu. Note: Gaoju = Tiele = Dingling

Great summary! thanks! but not sure why you missed out Safavid and Ghaznavid Empires. Safavid Empire ruled 2.9 Million km2 at its peak c, and Ghaznavid 3.4 Mkm2, comparable to Ottoman Empire peaked at 5.2 Mkm2, or Timurid Empire at 4.4 Mkm2

for us, Turks of many different states, Turkish means people of Türkiye, their citizens, the dialect they speak, etc. while Turkic means any other Turk from any country, I'm from Iraq, though we ''politically'' use the name ''Türkmen/Turcoman'' nevertheless, among ourselves we are aware that we are also TURK just like other kins.. so are the Turks of Egypt, Jordon, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Afganistan, Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Kosova, Macedonia, Ukraine, Russian Fed. and China... greetings to all . berisinge esenlik, hepsine esenlik, hamına esenlik/selamet

Our numbers are increasing very strongly in Türkiye and Central Asia!. Tengrism; It is definitely monotheism. This fact is clearly seen in the Gokturk/Orkhon Inscriptions. There is also a text saying "Tengri is one, no one should pray to anyone other than Tengri." Among the Turks and Mongols, the Khans/Hakans received power only from Tengri, whom they called KUT and saw him as the sole creator. However, in Turkish culture, this text has changed and additions have been made. Mythological beings in shamanism are derived from Tengri. It has now become a tradition among us Turks; Pouring water after setting off, tying ribbons on trees, wearing evil eye beads, visiting graves, etc., not showing the newborn child for 40 days, and mourning for the deceased for 40 days are traditions originating from the Tengri belief. Tengri belief is now spreading rapidly in the Republic of Türkiye and has become incredibly influential in the generation Y-Z, which may reach 15-20 million in the next 20 years. Turks are abandoning the Middle Eastern religion of Islam, which was created by Arabs who viewed the world only from Palestine, Jerusalem and Mecca, and which contained incredible contradictions. Very interestingly, the number of Deists in Türkiye has approached 15 million and most of them are the children and grandchildren of Political Islamists. Note: I think that the salvation of the world will be found in the belief in a single god, Tengri, instead of the humanized god (Jesus) who is in close contact with people and has no prophet/intermediary. I am also a Turk who has adopted the Tengri belief.

Interesting information but not all-inclusive. Why did you not include the famous Empire of the Golden Horde in your list? Besides, I have not heard anything yet in your videos about Kazakhs, who have the biggest territory of all the Turkic nations. Why don't you discuss these topics as well?

I am a brazilian and shia muslim, probably descendent of Neardlands, but I like soo much the turks and his history, I am thinking in learn de azeri language but what of the turkic languages you think is better to a person that don't know none of turkic languages?

I’d indeed recommend Turkish. It’s more easy to learn due to its harmonic pronunciation. Azerbaijani Turkic may be a bit more „cut off“, although it is still very similar to Anatolian Turkish.

If you check the genes of so called Turkish people, you will find out what they are made of. Modern day greeks are not the grreks 2000 years ago. Modern day turkish is not the so called Turk's 1000 years ago in the north of China. I can be wrong, the ancient Turkish people are more like Mogolian, but the modern day Turkish are people mixed with different people from central Aisa and around central Asia.
