Yesss! This is the trend we need. I'm glad that people are trying out consuming less and I hope it will stick with as many people as possible. This is the best for the environment. Overconsumption is just manipulation to eat our money and happiness. Thank you for this video and spreading this message! :)

Thirty years ago I read a book called Your Money or Your Life (or something like that). It talked about staying out of debt to live a better life. It absolutely worked. I have not had a mortgage, car payment or credit card debt in over 20 years. The amount of money I saved not buying the latest trendy things has financed a lifestyle that is stress free.

Yaaay, I feel strangely proud you really looked this up and made a video about it! 😊 And I love your spin on it, how you addressed the underlying dopamine chase behind the prevalent overconsumption and suggested we shift this and really seek joy by appreciating what we have for its genuine value, because it once did spark these emotions when we bought it! That love can be reignited without replacing the item and little updates/repairs are so often within our reach. Also, taking care of our possesions even when they wear over time is actually an act of love, a sign we are grateful for the memories these objects in our lives helped us create and in return help extend their lifespan. There are many levels to this, besides saving money and environment. And so much of it can be interpreted as positive and abundant, not as a sign of scarcity. Sincerely hope this video helps people to see something positive in buying less.

Well, I decided I should upgrade my wardrobe to something "new" (aka mostly still 2nd hand items, but at lease "new" to me, so I don't have photos in the same cloths for the next 50 years xD). Worry not, my mum took my old cloths and she is using them around the house and in the garden xD

Love this message! My dishes are from the 1970s/80s- I just took the ones my parents didn't want when I moved out, they work fine. We in the UK don't really decorate for autumn, or even Hallowe'en, but I've noticed shops starting to sell pumpkins and autumn garlands and the like- this is a good reminder that I don't need it, and if I do, I'm sure I can get it secondhand (or if not, next year)!

I really like this video Mrs heart. Well done on trying your best to make things last, to reuse, redecorate and repair items in your home. Whilst reducing the excess that you have accumulated. 💛 I think under consumption is really an important mindset and movement for change. People who are slow to catch on will eventually be grateful to all those who learnt not to waste the world’s valuable resources and energy. They will be pleased for the people who saw sense and did not buy all the things they didn’t need. Those people who are still buying the cheap plastic trash because they didn’t get the message that the world is suffering because of it, who think it looks pretty because they are blinded by their dopamine brains; instead of ‘really seeing’ what’s going on and the harm being done to the environment because of their lust for all the shiny trinkets and do-dads. Need to wake up and understand the harm they are doing. I really hope they do before it is too late. Also to the few who care out there, we must all do better to persuade those still lagging behind that they can do and be better at respecting their planet and looking out for their children’s futures.

That 'trend' is literally my lifestyle for years already? So idk if it should be a trend.. it's funny to me.
@volunteerworkerАй бұрын
The reason it's a trend is basically because younger generations recycling older generation terms and elements and making them relatable to their peers groups where it seems "cool" because someone popular puts the spotlight on it, and peer pressure makes the masses push it out to be relevant and make money off it. That's really what it comes down to with any trend. But, that aside, underconsumption core really is just another word for frugality with elements of minimalism and zero waste lifestyles to it.

This is a trend I can get behind. My vehicle is 31 years old. I cook using pans Grandma got at a Wearever "aluminum party" in 1950s and the leather jacket I bought in the 1980s still fits. (Errr, mostly.) My parents are still using dishes and flatware from the 1960s and Dad has the car he drove to their wedding (and got me to mine). I like to decorate for the changing seasons, but everything is inherited, thrifted or homemade. Being a thrifty "tightwad" is what enabled me to be a stay-at-home mom for years. Keep setting good examples of creativity and generosity for your KZbin community!

My mom still uses her gold corelle dishes from the mid 70's so she's got you beat. LOL. I've been into this lately. I'm trying to be more thrifty with my money. If it's still working ok, I'm just keeping it. If it's a little bit broke but works, keeping it. I've been digging in my closet and trying to wear stuff that I don't normally wear. My husband LOVED a top I've only worn one time. So that was a success! Plus I'm feeling guilty about fast fashion and buying stuff just for the sake of making changes in decor. Why?

Love the topic. If you spend time on social media, it's easy to forget that this is actually just how normal people really live haha. My minimalism tip is to avoid going into Target or the supermarket and instead place orders online for in-store pickup to avoid shopping temptation. You can add items to cart more slowly and intentionally, you see the items add up in price which again makes you more aware of the price before checking out, and you can even have people bring it out to your car so you don't get tempted by things you didn't intend to buy when walking around the store. Grocery spending is an easy place to over-buy because you're still getting that dopamine hit. Or if you can, walk or take the bus to the grocery store and only buy what you can carry home :)

Most of my kitchen items are „inherited“. My four pots are from my parents, at least 20 years old. The dishes are the wedding dishes from my husband’s grandma. I got the silverware before I moved out from my parents in 2009. I also still have a few clothes from high school. I wear my mother-in-laws shoes (she barely wore them, but she’s not able to wear heels anymore). Decorating is my children’s job: they bring so much self-made decorations from kindergarten and school 😂 And if something is missing I make something. I enjoy the challenge not to buy as soon as something gets „old“.

I think this is just common sense in terms of sustainability. Good quality pieces, whether it's clothes, cutlery or cookware will last years and years. I love my grandmother's coffee set, why buying cheap mugs if I can use beautiful old china cups? I prefer a wardrobe of classic, elegant pieces that you can combine to create different outfits, instead of flashy modern clothes that will look dated next season. I have a lace blouse that was my grandmother's, from the 1950s that I still use occasionally.
