I grew up in South East Florida and I remember when the area code 305 pre-fix was the start of my home phone number and I was in Broward County. I remember when they changed ours to 954 and Dade County was turned into 305 prefix only… So I grew up with Cuban, Puerto Rican, Jewish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Haitian, Jamaican, Bohemian, Southern, Creole, and SeaFood galore. The only Mexican around I remember was at Taco Viva, which only locals will remember, which was more like a Taco Bell to be honest. I discovered real Mexican Food out West, like in Texas, Colorado, and now recently all the Newer Food Truck Craze. I have my favorites, lol… However, what I’m saying is Your Right… Just like all the others I named are all very different and All the different ethnicities foods are different from one another for sure… Thank God we live in America and we as Americans Welcome Foods from all over the World to try and enjoy… We’re all very fortunate to have these amazing choices to choose from. So lighten up some bro… I don’t think he meant anything mean. He probably wasn’t as fortunate as other to have traveled or lived in an area with such bountiful choices of amazing foods that some lucky SOB’s like you and myself have is all I’m saying… xoxo

Too crowded, cost of living is sky high, you either have too much money or just live check to check. Drivers are very aggressive and mean and love the horn. All roads seem to always be under construction and there doesn’t seem to be any nice roads that don’t give your car suspension a good work out. I-95 is in horrible shape and the lanes are narrow, people drive either really fast or really slow and have no courteously for anyone else. A good portion of population is bilingual but equally many aren’t. You live, work, shop and the such in a bubble no need to learn English. The city towards water front is newer and shinier, what most people see on tv, however a lot of area beyond that is old and beat up. Most houses are small with very little yard, houses are crammed up against each other with very little privacy yet home prices for homes no bigger than shacks go for 400-500k. Most jobs here for majority are not high paying so you have many people living in small spaces just to afford living there. Population is mostly south, Central American or Caribbean so beyond that not terribly diverse. This is not a place to retire too unless you have a lot of money and are a masochist who enjoys high traffic , very rude drivers, high cost of living etc etc

You’re wrong there buddy. The only thing that made Miami is cocaine. Miami as a city is unique and an anomaly as a city. Miami and South Florida would have been no bigger than Havana, weren’t it not for the drug trade.

You're absolutely right about Julia Tuttle being from Cleveland. She is considered the only female to have ever founded a major US city. For that she is called the "Mother of Miami". Ironically the Brickell family came from Cleveland too.

I have never even heard of Flagami and I have lived here most of my life. Arguably I would say Fisher Island is the best neighborhood in Miami if not Star Island, North Bay Road or Pine Tree Drive in Miami Beach. However, none of those I would call affordable. You are definitely right about Overtown being the worst of the worst!

Coming from a Miamian.. 1) I definitely was in the process of typing something insulting when you didn't pronounce Overtown correctly lol😆 which btw has it's problems currently, but back in the 40s and 50s, Overtown was on of the more prominent black neighborhoods in the U.S.. Had it's own economy and had a population close 50k at one point. 2) The South Florida Metropolitan area is the only Major Metro to sit in between national National Parks. Biscayne National park and Everglades National park. 3) You have to include The University of Miami also known as The U, as one of the major sports team. Albeit, they're a college but they still have a strong national brand similar to a pro team and when they're relevant in college football, the city has the same or if not MORE buzz as they would for their professional counterparts such as the Heat and Dolphins. Regardless, great video💯

I got really surprised when you mentioned "El Rey de las Fritas". At least three times a week I get my "pan con frita con todo y huevo frito" (loaded pan con frita with sunny-side-up egg). I'm glad you mentioned neither "La Carreta" 😅😅 which is overrated nor one of the mockeries of gloria estefan places. I've seen the city grow and I've grown with it to a point that's a natural feeling I belong to 305 and I'm a cuban immigrant born in 1990 and reborn in 2010 when I stood on American soil for the first time.

Grew up in Miami just moved back after living in nyc and up and down Cali from the bay to la for 5 yrs and I’ve noticed since I moved back in the spring that a lot of California natives moving here and housing cost has gone out the roof plus the New Yorkers this is now basically Cali west/nyc south I’m moving back out west because now I see la is cheaper then Miami with lower wages and less jobs not saying I’m moving to la but this is shocking now the city is the second most expensive housing market which is insane if your from here like me we don’t have the work and space to accommodate all these new people it’s making it suck here now traffic is hell now also

Been living here for about two years beautiful city lovely temperature amazing skyline clean beaches just grumpy miserable people and angry bitter foreigners that move here from Other countries……… Miami gets a lot of hate from it own locals which is a sad part my sister has lived here for over a decade almost 20 years now and she still has the same positive view about the city …..don’t listen to all the negative angry miserable people trying to down the city 🌆 it’s great….. to come here not the cheapest but if you look hard enough you can find a spot for you try Fort Lauderdale it’s a 25 minute trip to Miami In Fort Lauderdale has a lot of small little hometown communities with great parks and access to even cleaner and less busy beaches but I love South Beach it has such a bad reputation nobody goes so while I’m on there relaxing everybody’s at home complaining about how crazy and shitty south beaches it’s own reputation makes it empty……. Coming from a small town upstate New York in the Adirondacks I am very happy with the move I made and definitely think this city has lived up to its reputation and more very diverse you’ll meet people from all over the world here as I said you’ll enjoy yourself just don’t feed into the negativity stay to yourself pick the right friends make smart money choices and cheer up!!! You people move here from other parts of the world just to complain that’s what gets me😂😂🙏🏿🌆🤷🏾♂️🌊 As for me I’m just looking at it as being an artist living in his sub tropical paradise were a $50 boat trip can take you to the Bahamas for a day or you can spend a day in the Everglades either way I’m making the most of it

The problem with Flagami being listed is that the assessment being used doesn’t seem to take drivability into account. Flagami is west, the main highway being the 836. I can’t speak for every Miami native here, but I would take high crime, Higher cost of living, and poor walkability over traffic along the 836. Over traffic in any place in Miami for that matter. Driving down here can be a nightmare Due to congestion and, well, have you seen the driving that take place here? 💀

indeed. I creep through allapattah, Northside, and opa locka to avoid the congestion on the main streets

The video was great, you missed a lot of high points. But if you listed all of them the video would've been hours long. Miami has a very rich history, great people, great food. You also forgot about the colleges the night life, and the famous people. Too much to list too little time, I still enjoyed the video. When I first moved to Florida I lived in Pompano Beach Florida, spent a lot of time in Miami, got a crash course in spanish. Nice try with the names, that was close enough.

The closest place to Miami where they have Jai Alai is at the Casino @ Dania Beach which is in between Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is five minutes away if the lights are green getting there.

It's a bummer to hear that the closest Jai Alai place is in Dania. I lived in Hialeah for a while back in the 80's, and we'd go into Miami (can't remember exactly where, but think it was close to the old Orange Bowl) and spend a great evening watching the games.
