@SiddiqueSukdiki7 жыл бұрын
Ryan, stop stereotyping lifters to be dumb people who don't know anything about health. It's people like you who gives gyms and lifters a bad rep by perpetuating this stereotype. People who have a lot of muscle mass proabably know more than you about muscle gaining, and protein and sure as hell know a lot more about health and dieting than the average joe. If lifters get enough protein for their days, they wouldn't be taking whey. Well, there are many factors such as convenience of being able to quickly access protein, not filling you up like food, a lot quicker to obtain that protein and for me most importantly the price of protein from food can cost like maybe £5,000 a year for food (including some supplementary macros like calories). So get off your high horse bashing successful people try doing something yourself. It requires a lot of knowledge about health and fitness to become very strong and successful in lifting. The most humble people i've ever met are gym enthusiasts and part of going to the gym builds on a quality in people that you generally don't find elsewhere. Mainly, to be successful you need to let go of your ego and become humble, because there is always someone better than you and you have to be always looking forward to stay in a constant state of growth both physically and mentally. It requires, determination, grit, humility, and perseverance. Then there come ignorant people like you, who just look at lifters, disregarding all the effort they put into building their body and stereotyping them into some idiots, just assuming that just because they are big strong and physically fit that they must be lacking somewhere else just so you can feel good.

Beginners might be getting enough protein via his regular diet but heavy lifters that have about 2-3 years lifting might need more protein and just having 3 meals a day with about 20-30g of protein per meal will not be enough. I barely drink protein shake anymore and try to just eat other foods for my protein but you will end up eating like 6 meals or 3 big and 3 small snacks with at least 1-2 chicken breast (or 20-30g of protein er snack/meal) if you want to lift heavy without drinking whey protein. Just like the video said, its about convenience. And the price for 22g (one scoop) is almost unbeatable.

I read a research article that stated that whey is actually better than most protein sources because of its high Biological Value. Biological value desribes how well a protein source gets absorbed by the body. I checked this with multiple researches and it's true; the biological value is definitely higher than other protein sources such as chicken breast, eggs and soy. Anyone (dis)agree with this?
@PictureFit8 жыл бұрын
+Dutchify Studies that look directly into muscle protein synthesis (muscle building) usually see whey being an immediately benefactor 1-6 hours after workout. However, long digesting protein have the address benefit of prolonging MPS. Thing is, the end result is that they all work, just different rates.

That's true. Actually, whey isolate/concentrate can have a Biological Value higher than 100 according to whey manufacturers. They take eggs as a milestone of the number 100 and 0 a milestone of, well... nothing. (same idea of 0 degrees celsius = freezing water to 100 degrees celsius = cooking water) Most whey can be digested faster than eggs (which is a BV of 100), which causes whey to get a number above 100.
@eget41448 жыл бұрын
Dutchify our body cant contain too much free amino acids in body fluids. it is harmfull. liver takes care of this problem but it gets tired. too fast digestion cause liver demage, it gets fatty, extra amino acids will turn into glucose or fat. we need some amount of protein every day but it is no good if we take it all in 1 meal. AND our kidneys throw away amino acids then collects them back. if there are too many amino acids in blood it will get tired, you will confuse the body by collecting sodium before urine is observed by body detectors. it will cause problems too. note: kidneys gets tired by same way with glucose at diabetes. note2: we collect sodium while collecting glucose and amino acids. if kidneys and liver gets inefficient your every system will suffer greatly. at the end:dont overload protein in a day or in a meal. east fiber-full foods to slow down absorbtion. writer: not a body builder but medical student

Can you guys please make a video on whether or not there is a "best time" to consume protein? I hear a lot of people say that the best time to consume a protein shake is immediately after working out. How does that compare to consuming a protein shake at breakfast, before bed, or even before the workout? Does it only matter THAT you take it and not WHEN you take it?
@nijowe938 жыл бұрын
After training there are a window where the absorption rate is a bit higher, so most research show a modest increase in effect when protein is consumed after wo. If you want to drink a proteinshake for breakfast (or whenever) that's fine as well, it's just a convenient way to reach your daily protein intake.
@benjaminpool18 жыл бұрын
ytcansmdHD I like taking it before sleeping and after workout, because you restore muscles in your sleep which requires protein
@lilthrall8 жыл бұрын
I agree w/ nijowe93, and I have read a few times that just a tad of protein will help you during your workout. Most of the time I just drink my protein after weights but if i feel a little groggy i'll drink maybe like 1/4 of it right before weights. Mostly, I'll drink some right before weights if it's already afternoon and I haven't eaten yet.

Makes sense. Someone already eating a lot doesn’t need the extra protein and calories since their diet is already enough. But someone that needs more protein and calories and sees a positive difference when consuming shakes should continue it. Personally, protein shakes are just a convenient source of protein and sometimes are a healthier snack. Instead of consuming candy, soda or junk food in general, protein shakes can make snacking habits healthier for you.

Weight loss, particularly fat loss, makes you pee a lot because your body is literally getting smaller, so you don't need as much water in your body. This sometimes makes us thirsty too. I found myself peeing so much more often while losing weight, and I happen to also drink heaps of water. Depending on your supplement choice, it may have flavouring that could make you thirsty too.

I recommend natural flavour (no added sugar or flavours). Not only some of the flavours are very bad but they also get boring and nasty. Natural taste whey can be mixed with cocoa, coffee or juices to your liking. Just pop a spoon of coffee in the morning or some strawberry juice (if you dont mind the sugar).

Two questions! A friend of mine who read the China Study told me there's evidence that protein powders decrease a person's calcium levels, is this true? I also read somewhere that animal protein, especially concentrated powders such as whey, help fuel any active carcinogens in the body, where as plant-based protein doesn't do that. Myth or fact?
@timtitus62268 жыл бұрын
Matt Bohorquez don't know about the calcium theory but i doubt that. Animal protein activating carcinogens is a proven fact though, nutritionfacts.org has a lot of great info

The China Study have been heavily criticized, if you feel like reading up i will include a link to a bunch of articles rawfoodsos.com/the-china-study/ here they make a decent job with dissecting the study and all its fallacies and problems, as well as a few takeaways. If anyone cites the china study, i suggest you take it with a spoonful of salt.

I'm not sure about your first question, but I can answer your second question about animal fat's relation to carcinogens- I currently study Health and Fitness at university, and I am currently in a Human Nutrition class. My professor taught that animal protein is indeed linked to a higher level of cholesterol (due to the fat that comes along with the protein in animals) as well as carcinogens. Hope this helps!

never EVER relate to anything from the China study. It is a long debunked and refuted source. It is very biased and has a lot of misinformation in it. Only vegans buy into that shit.

***** Campbell is just intellectually dishonest in his study. He cites insignificantly weak correlations between animal fat and protein with heart disease and cancer, while in some cases there are stronger correlations between leafy vegetables. I'm not saying that vegetables cause cancer or heart disease, i'm just pointing out some of his dishonesty. There are a lot stronger correlations in the same studies he cite, like smoking, alcohol and wine consumption. While he fail to mention these correlations, he mentions a non statistically relevant correlation between meat and heart disease. This is just one example, most of his claims are at best on shaky ground, and like i said earlier, you should take anything from the china study with a truckload of salt. My university actually used it as an example of bad science when it came out, and it really is a great example.

I bought a bottle of Whey yesturday and wonder if I should start eating it everyday or start by eating it about once or twice a week to get my body used to it. I usually eat quite healthy.
