Genuinely curious, does it mean Etch’s success is directly related to the success of Gutenberg, or Etch will still works all fine without Gutenberg?

(from what I understand Etch will be in sync with Gutenberg, integrating seamlessly with the Wordpress database, but will also work will without Gutenberg ... not sure how it will be achieved, but something along those lines etc)

I don't understand that people care so much about wordpress being an open source system, when at the same time it is dependent on a plugin system that is not open source to create a website.

Every plugin in the WordPress repo has to be GPL to be listed.

If Kevin Geary is the future of wordpress. Then wordpress is dead already. Anyone aligned with Geary will be avoided like the plague.
