Also here in Brazil, Mate is an everyday go to, at least in the South region. I love yerba mate! As well as tea! They are my two everyday companions!

I'm very sorry for the double comment, but thank you for the content you provide. It's not just informative, but also very entertaining. I don't want to get all sappy here in the comments, and it's likely you'll never see this, but things have been incredibly rough for my wife and myself lately, and your content gives me something to look forward to, and gives me ideas for teas and such to look forward to trying at some point. Seriously, thank you so much. I don't know if I could really express my gratitude properly.

What a life, following tea! 🤙 I think this is what I was trying to identify. My neighbor in Jordan had us over once for a thick green "tea" soaked in the leaves like this, and using similar straw. She called it Met'teh.

nice to see our precious mate (or chimarrão, as we also call it in southern brazil) on this channel. about the temperature, the usual water temperature is something between 70 and 80°C. some people may drink it hotter, but at least when the mate is is being prepared, the first infusion should be around 70°C or even lower so the leaves aren't damaged (some styles of yerba mate actually are better prepared first with cold water because it's absorved faster to make the wall/mountain of herb stable). great content again.

when you drink caffeine from coffee for example, you tend to get very jittery, anxious and you can even crash later on in the day when the caffeine wears off. it appears this is not the case as much with matcha

Uruguay has the highest consumption of Mate per capita in the world, and is located in the center of the geographical region of Mate: Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Correction: Yerba Mate was discovered and used in Paraguayan province after the division of our territory countries as Argentina, Uruguay were born, they know it in Brazil because when they were a portuguese colony they invaded all the spanish territory of Paraguayan province a stolen a lot of our territories, even traditions and 2 centuries after started a war against Paraguay with Argentina and Uruguay against us. So properly is a paraguayan herb and we didn't want to share with them

I read a scientific study that showed yerba mate having compounds the promote cancer, especially if drunk in large amounts
@jvbob96
@jvbob96 Жыл бұрын
this can happen maybe with the roasted variety. also there are studies that tried to blame the mate for throat cancer, but that's because some people drank it wrongly too hot, plus it's drunk in larger quantities than other hot beverages, so coffee and tea don't get the temperature-cancer mistake.
@Nioteas
@Nioteas Жыл бұрын
Yes I heard about this study and I believed the same thing, I think there was a mistake in how it was conducted
@Xaito
@Xaito Жыл бұрын
There are many studies. There is no definite proof yet, but there is evidence. The most damning ones are studies showing varying but often huge amount of PAH (class 1 carcinogen for humans) contamination. The smoke dried ones were the worst offenders, but the smoke free ones still were contaminated, possibly due to pollution in the region where it's grown. At least one study has shown similar amount of PAH metabolites in the urine of Mate drinkers who don't smoke as in smokers who don't drink Mate. Do with that information what you will. I love Mate, but I think there is reason to be careful. I think after reading the studies I'll avoid smoked mate in the future even if it does taste better. Also I'll try to cut back on the amount I drink.

While 'tea' is used to refer to herbal extractions of any kind in everyday language, only leaves derived from the *tea plant* are classified as 'tea' officially. Everything else is can be called a 'tisane'/'influsion'/etc. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with saying tea in reference to something like chamomile or mate in everyday conversation, but it's useful to have the terminology to distinguish anything produced by the camellia sinensis plant, especially in regards to buying tea or discussing its properties.

Paraguay even have Terere which is the cold version to suit the weather cause most of the time it's hot and humid.

@eliasbram3710

the carcinogen effects comes from the burned leaves, it happens when you use boiling water and don't let it reach all the leaves. it produces small amounts of soot that are carcinogenic with cronic use. don't boil the water, or simply make it reach every leaf and you'll be fine. Boiling ruins the flavor anyway. The correlation with cancer was showed in persons that smoked and/or used Boiling water, and just after decades of exposure

These are natural products of Earth and no nation, which are political and ideological concepts created by humans, or race has a right to claim what is of Earth. These products existed before humans and will continue to do after humans unless human destructiveness destroys Earth altogether.
