In my film days of over 23 years ago I was a 100% Ilford shooter, FP4 and ID 11 a perfect combination! low light HP5 now problem.....Multi grade glossy paper and 75 magenta filter went hand in hand. Pushing film to 1600 asa was no problem with HP5 development for about 10 minutes....Happy Days in the darkroom...

FP3, FP4, and now FP4+ have been my favourites for black and white since the 1960s! Mostly digital these days, as it's so much cheaper, but I've almost always got a DSLR with a roll of FP4+ close to hand... Really enjoy your channel.

My favourite thing about your channel is that fact that you general do prints in the darkroom. Nothing quite compares to seeing a proper print. I wish I have the space to set up a darkroom for myself.

I live in Moscow, and we don't have a lot of sunny days here. We usually see the sun 72 days a year. That's why my favorite film is HP5. I often expose it as ISO 3200. But this is for night walks around the city.

Favorite BW film remains TMAX 100. However, because the cost of this film has gone up so much, I don't buy unless there is a deal somewhere. So, I use Ilford Delta 100. I also like that. Has a slightly different look but also the almost 0 grain. I use in both 35 and 120.

This video is such fun. I love the dog, Howlin' Wolf? And the perfectly posed pigeon too, sometimes you get lucky. I also love fp4+ and it is my regular slower film, especially for 35mm, usually developed in Rodinal. I also shoot it with medium format if I'm using a tripod. For medium format hand held I prefer Delta 400, the larger negative means the grain isn't a problem, and I usually develop that in Ilfotec DDX. If it's sunny I stick an orange filter on it to get back down to ISO 100. I'm afraid I've not had good results with HP5+, but I need to go back to it and try different developers because I know most people love it, so my poor results are down to me not the film.

I've tried Fomapan 100, 400 and Kentmare 400. I found that Foma 400 has quite low contrast at the standart developing time (7:30, D-76 stock). I shot at 200, but still looks as flat as a pancake! Foma 100 is much better, too much contrast in fact. Kentmare 400 is the best (just looking at the negatives), not too surprising. I can't imagine what HP5 or Delta 400 look like, as I've never shot any "pro" film. Yet to print any of the rolls I've developed, so it may look better than I expect. Cheers!

Love the photos, thanks for those! I like FP4 but I haven't used enough of it yet to be sure of my results. I grew up about 3 hours away from Rochester, NY so Kodak was the film I started with. Shot PlusX and TriX in the 70s when I was first learning. Currently I shoot HP5+ as I can still get it for all my cameras--4x5, 120, and 35mm. I definitely want something slower for large format and have got several candidates to try out; just got some Delta 100, FP4, and some J. Lane glass plate negatives. @mrca2004
@mrca2004 Жыл бұрын
I will try shooting it at 250 iso, developing at 400 and cutting development 15% That should give me detail in the shadows, pull down the highlights and not increase the grain all that much. I will do that in medium 645 format where the grain is already minimal. I like 250 iso which is where I shoot tmax 400 again cutting development and shoot portra 400 at 200 so it keeps me shooting about the same with all 3 film stocks. My mamiya 645 only has a 1/1000 shutter and 250 keeps me in reach and can use the 2.8 glass and my f100/5/6 have 1/8000 shutter so can shoot near wide open. yet with faster glass, can shoot in fairly low light.

@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss In general there are just a few companies who actually produce film: Harman, Filmotec(Orwo),Foma,Kodak, Agfa belgium(who (probably still )makes the Agfa 125 traffic film and what is rebranded by a lot of companies) and Ferrania in Italy. Another few rebrands are Adox CHS100II is actually uncoated Orwo UN54 (though Filmotec and Adox have a falling out, so adox is teaming up now with Ferrania). Rollei RPX400/Kentmere 400/Agfa apx400 are all the same film produced by Harman with just some difference in the final coatings:) Tracing out all the rebrand is pretty interesting and sometimes the name of a rebrand stays the same though it's a different film. For example Lomo lady grey used to be an old stock Kodak Tmax film but nowadays it's foma 400. Same for their Lomo 100 color film, it used to be a color Ferrania film but now it's something from Kodak.
