Imagine going to an auto dealer. After you tell him which car you want he asks, "what amount of monthly payments you can afford." If you low ball he tells you he will only show you lower priced models. If he accepts your monthly payment amount, that becomes the only amount he will accept. The only negotiating is length of term and interest rate. OR, you could shop a dealer who shows sticker prices. Why don't companies include the pay range in the job posting?

Madeline, would you recommend doing a negotiation like this on the phone or via email? There seems to be support for both sides and the strength of speaking over the phone, but I also know that email is great because it puts things in writing and you can stick by the "script" of what you want to say. Thoughts?

Help help anyone!!! I have a 12 week internship experience in recruiting and I have a SHRM-CP and cannot decide what I should ask for for salary. This is so stressful. I feel like I don’t have experience or enough, but also I have a deep understanding of HR and HR practices. I also have a Bachelor’s degree with an HR concentration. I’m looking for an hr coordinator or recruiting coordinator position in Austin and or Chicago. Any advice for Thai particular situation ?

@@SelfMadeMillennial They said the offer is non negotiable and if you accept the offer let us know by the end of the day. I let them know I accepted the offer after 20 minutes of their call and they never reply back. When I sent signed contract paper to them, after a day they said the position has been changed and they are retracting the offer. I was very upset after hearing that because after all interviews and reference check, they offered me the position.

Can we talk about companies who offer a salary range, but won't budge from a REALLY low number in the range they provided? They never offered me an opportunity to talk about salary before making me an offer, and honestly, I felt insulted. They offered me SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS above the minimum salary in the range they provided, and wouldn't even offer me anywhere near halfway, even when I tried negotiating. Also, the manager wouldn't let me negotiate with HR myself. She negotiated on my behalf to HR, which made me uncomfortable as well.

What if the job is within the same company you currently work at? I have a hiring manager asked my per hour number which i gave. But it does not account for my overtime hours or bonus. I am going to email the manager and let her know that i was severely underpaid for my current role. So i do expect them to pay me more for the role i am applying for as it has a lot of responsibility. Thank you let me know your thoughts
@amriceleste
@amriceleste 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hina, you mention that your per hour number doesn't account for overtime hours or bonus, so when a manager asks for your per hour number, I would suggest giving the higher number which includes overtime etc, and then explain that the number includes those things, so that the hourly rate you give is an accurate reflection of what you want to earn
@itsagoodday2165

Let's say you were asked this in your phone screen interview, and you had said a nervous lowball estimate like 50K, and the hr coordinator said the position actually starts from 60K-70K, that doesn't mean that at the offer stage they're going to try to offer me 50K right? I assume if they were planning to lowball me, she wouldn't have told me their actual starting range.
