I've been working from home as a remote Data Scientist almost my ENTIRE career. And let me tell you, there are SO many things you need to consider if you're working from home. You don't want working from home to limit your career progression, make you antisocial, or just not motivated to work. Man, if I had a work-from-home situation where people paid me a lot and just left me alone to do my own thing, I'd be so happy with that! So much time for work that people won't pay you for (theoretical physics and math research, philosophy, psychology, literature, etc.)

I really enjoyed this video. I might not completely agree with some points on the wfh solutions, but I do overall agree with the premise of "the importance of documentation for your colleagues and for self organization". Also love that you mentioned social life here! Balance is key. Gotta workout, Gotta have fun outside of work, gotta up your metal health prevent burnout and increase longevity at work! I have also struggled with this as a remote-only DA/DS in marketing. Client visibility is limited to reporting meetings and rescue ops, and training and development is also very limited. I finally bit the bullet and started looking for new opportunity when in response to requesting more training, I received mentees to train up instead. I'm still looking for remote only work, but somewhere that prioritizes professional development and continuous education.

For sure - professional development and constant learning are like the baseline expectation for a good job, regardless of whether it's a wfh job or not! Good luck in hopefully finding a new job that is more fulfilling and cares about your development more!
