What It's Like to Daily Drive a RHD JDM Car

Daily driving a right hand drive import car will open a whole new set of interesting encounters and experiences as you go about your day that you probably never considered. This video goes through some of those that I've come across in the past few months as I've been daily driving imported JDM cars.

1) multiply the 1st digit by 6 to get mph 2) you don’t have a blind spot for idiots who pass on the right. 3) almost NOBODY notices! They’re all half asleep or on their cell phones. I have a stuffed gorilla 🦍 with a mask 😷 in the left seat 💺. The last person who noticed was another JDM driver this Halloween 🎃 with a skeleton 💀 in the left seat. 4) o I’ve lost weight avoiding drive-thrus

hardest part of driving my celsior is turning left at a light since you cannot see oncoming traffic if someone else is turning left in the opposite direction :)

Very true! And also attempting to pass on two lane roads is very sketch lol

Where I live we don't have roads like that. Only when entering residential areas. The main roads are left Only so you don't need to worry about getting hit by a car you can't see. But I can see where the left turn can be a problem. I did hear some people would install a mirror so you can see the road ahead.

This makes me want to make a video about dailying my 66 Mustang in the UK. I too often get people at petrol stations interested in it, though that's more because it's a classic American car rather than it being LHD. Being across the channel from the rest of Europe means LHD vehicles here are not that uncommon, and we also do not have any import restrictions based on age. From time to time I will come across nearly new Camaros, Challengers, and other American stuff that was imported new or nearly new. The one thing I don't have to do with an American car is convert the speed as I drive, since we're like the last two countries that still use MPH 😆.

Geat video Jay, I live in a country with right hand drive we drive on the left.. I imported a Corvette ( I kept it left hand drive) so I understand the differences, just the other way around. It definitely does take time getting used to the differences and blind spots

JJ, another great video. Of interest to you: My 1995 UCF20R speedometer is calibrated in Km/h...maximum indicated is 260Km/h I noted with interest the max indicated on the Celsior speedo is 180Km/h...I wonder what happens when you get to 181 or 185, 190 Km/h? I've had mine to 210 Km/h ; the handling and road holding IMPROVED THE FASTER I DROVE!!!!! Please produce the video of this event if possible!!!! There is a fantastic bit of Japanese understatment in the owner's manual in the tyre inflation chapter: "If you intend driving your Lexus at speeds greater than 210Km/h, kindly inflate tyres to 40 psi." I love that kind of thing, Cheers from Sunny Australia.

If you can drive RHD side car in your place, it's mean you can drive car in Aussie, HONG Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, UK, India and Bangladesh

how long does it take to get comfortable and adapt? Do you still feel more at home in a left hand drive even after driving the RHD for months/years or as long as you've driven it?

2 things you missed. Unprotected left turns are a big no no, very dangerous as you cannot see oncoming traffic especially if someone is in the turning lane coming the opposite way. And the other would be if you get a stick shift, but that’s oppositional of course. You will feel like a complete idiot for a while until it becomes more muscle memory. And I just thought of another thing. Roads where you are side by side with oncoming traffic makes it extremely difficult and dangerous to pass slower drivers. The trick I’ve learned is moving back a bit to see around the right side of the vehicle but that does not always work.

driving stick RHS takes about 1 minute to get used to. get a periscopic mirror to see forward on your left side. you can google them

its fine lol, im a high schooler and i drive a 98 celsior just like any other ordinary cars, except the fuel economy is rlly horrible, i only get like 11-12 in city and 20 on interstates

Nice. I’ve considered getting an S15 Silvia for my next car, but I’ve grown accustomed to having more space in a sedan. I’m also considering a Ford Fusion Sport with the TTV6 & AWD, but I’d rather have the UK-spec Mondeo with the RHD layout. It would be too much of a pain in the ass to import one though since there’s not really enough difference between the two to justify the costs of importation. The only real thing that sets them apart is the UK spec model has a much larger hatchback style trunk/boot, which I really like more than the US spec model.

@@JJinMotion definitely! I like mine, but it’s got the weak 1.5L eco boost motor. I’ve been looking at prices on used Sport models and they’re not bad at all, way more power and AWD. I think it’s a no brainer.

You can buy adapter FM not necessarily to replace radio 😅

Yeah I did go that route and it works great. Not the best audio quality but good enough for how easy and cheap those adapter are

Young man says, "Holy Shit, Never seen a right hand drive"....please treat yourself to some travel young fella!!! Years ago one only had to cross the border to Canada. Seriously considered buying a 1960 Pontiac Laurentian from Canada as it was FACTORY right drive. Cheers from Sunny Australia.

Very cool car mate. About 3 weeks ago i got talked out of buying a JZX105 chaser Avante Four in MINT condition with 80k kilometers and absolutely 0 rust because RHD. And Im somewhat sad.

Hey, I just use progressive but I have to call in to get the car added since the VINs aren’t formatted like US VINs so I can’t do it online
