So, if you don't need a fuel stop, and if you have beds and a bathroom in the vehicle, and if you have dual controls to let drivers swap off without even a second of having no one behind the wheel, it seems like you wouldn't need to stop at all, so you should be able to get a great run.

Doing that 32 hours is crazy, but as a German its sometimes a bit funny when they describe having the cruise control at 130+ for 2 hours… like I‘ve done that multiple times but then again the german version of many cars is usually a bit different so it can better sustain high speed for a long amount of time.
@philipegoulet4485 ай бұрын
The difference is not in the cars, it's in the traffic, driving culture and legal repercusions if you get caught. People do not look in their mirrors for cars coming at 100mph, they travel in the left lane, they don't use flashers, they don't understand what flashing lights in their mirror means and the police will absolutely throw you in jail if they catch you. A very different experience i'm sure!

question from someone only mildly educated on the whole cannonball run thing: Wouldn´t a Diesel make way more sense since they easily use around a third less fuel compared to gasoline cars? And also, wouldn´t a smaller sized engine, like let´s say a 2L oder 3L as opposed to a V8 also be way better? German Diesels still easily go 250 and upwards while having a still extremely good MPG compared to gas ones. for example, a BMW 430d will have around 38 MPG while still able to easily cruise at 280
@Swiggityswagger6 ай бұрын
Diesels do not have good fuel economy cruising at these speeds. Engine load is too high. For the really elite runs the fuel stops don't really matter anyway. The top guys have someone with a fuel trailer and a high flow pump meet them somewhere and are stopped less than 5 minutes.
@heinzketchup45586 ай бұрын
@@Swiggityswagger have you driven any modern diesel at those speeds? I drove with a friends 430d, it cruises at 200 km/h with below 10l/100km Thanks to the ZF 8 speed automatic, the rpm isn’t that high actually. (Guess i should mention that i‘m german and thus this is pretty normal.)
@averyw.39396 ай бұрын
You would also have the advantage of being able to use the truck pumps to fill a custom fuel cell much faster. I'm not planning on doing a cannonball run but if I were it would be in a BMW diesel, or maybe even diesel swap a Ford Explorer and dress it up to look cop-ish.

Cruise set at 130mph for two hours...*Whew! Question: Is it legal to display red/blue lights *if you don't use them?*
@somenygaard6 ай бұрын
Retired police officer here and I can say that in the two states where I worked that just having the lights isn’t illegal. Alabama criminal code: “A person commits the crime of impersonating a peace officer if he falsely pretends to be a peace officer and does any act in that capacity.”
@LouisSubearth6 ай бұрын
As long as you don't drive with them on in public roads it should be fine. Private roads or parked and lit up for display is fine.

I drove from Harrisburg airport to Iowa City (about 850 miles) and averaged 88MPH. Including stopping for a nice lunch along the way. Partly, I sped my ass off (that Chevy Corsica was governed to 110 but I did that for a while, it was actually bands of clear alternating with heavy rain through Ohio, I actually had to slow down to something resembling the speed limit in most of the rain bands, and below it in the heaviest rain; otherwise my average speed would have actually been even higher). Other thing that helped my time was it was still getting high enough MPG that I did not have to stop for fuel very often, I was still getting like 25MPG so I only had to stop for fuel a couple times. I had dropped my parents off at the Harrisburg airport and they were flying back; I was like 20 minutes from finishing my drive when they called and said they had been delayed at O'Hare for hours, had I gone past there yet? I'm like "Yep, several hours ago". I drove home over 5 hours faster than it took them to fly. Ironically, I got a single speeding ticket, about 20 miles from the end of my trip, for going like 78 in a 65. And that was because it was right when they'd called and I didn't notice the cop sitting right there in the middle not even trying to hide behind a bridge post or anything. It was kind of amusing that when I finally got a ticket it was probably the slowest I'd gone the entire trip.

It's not their fault there isn't any traffic, mate. I don't see a reason why runs during the lockdown should be invalidated. Traffic isn't something you control. If you go by that logic then people could also claim other records before the lockdown as invalid because it could be argued that the traffic on their run is lighter than other runs. Which is absolutely ridiculous.

I had a couple of ex-cop Crown Vic's back in the 90's. They were absolutely the fastest way to get somewhere on the interstate and the absolute worst way to get somewhere off of the interstate. Off the interstate people would do exactly the speed limit and come to complete stops etc. but they were fun though

Ohio used to have the reputation -- I had a Valentine one, and it's the only state I had the laser detector keep going off. They have advanced radar guns that attempt to evade detection (unsucessfull on the Valentine One), radar detector detectors, and heavy use of laser. They do indeed just park right on the shoulder or center median, but they seem to have the most consistent speed enforcement of any state I've been through.
