Haley hams as a chemo nurse I used to tell all my patients to cut their hair very short before they start their chemo treatment. I can tell you that when you do that the impact is not that hard. And toward their second or third chemotherapy I would tell them to shave it off. What a difference it made. Seeing your hair fall could be a huge shock for some women. I also demanded that they had to use make-up all the time no excuse. And boy I can tell you my patients loved me and I did as well.

One of the hardest things I had to do was shave my mom's hair so she can get chemo. Her cancer had spread to ger brain and they put a shunt in her skull to get it directy there. When I came in one day, the nurse said my mom wanted me. The nurses had tried to shave her hair but she said she wanted her daughter to do it. I stood behind her with the scissors crying silent tears. When she was well her hair was always full and flowy, she loved it. The scissors shook in my hand to cut it, it was like the cancer was winning. In the end, she was beautiful without her hair but I bought a wig to put on her in her casket to remember her as she was.

My mom had beautiful curly hair, when she was like 3 months on chemo she couldn't brush her hair anymore beacause it would fall, she dicided to cut it all, her hair started growing again and she was so happy. She was even talking about what hairstyle she wanted. But she wasn't getting any better, doctors gave her a dosis of chemo to high. So she started to have a lot of problems and she passed away last year. I couldn't see her with the beautiful curly hair she usted to had. I’m only 12 yet I have had and beat alopecia areata. Big clumps of my hair would come out at a time and I would just cry holding them. I had it for 2 years and being a fourth grader with a small amount of hair was torturous. Now I have my big long curly hair halfway back. I’m proud of how I am today. It has made me stronger. I still am not fully done with it and once a month I get shots in my head, around 40, to help grow my hair back stronger. Edit: March 15th 2019 Hi everyone! Thank you for all this support! I’m getting better! Currently I’m working on strengthening my hairline and the hair at nape of my neck. There is less hair in my brush and no more clogged drains! It is so hard when you feel your ponytail get smaller and smaller. When the elastic of the hair tie wraps around yet another time. When barrettes fall right out because there's not enough hair to keep them clipped. When you notice your entire braid is the same size as one strand of the braid used to be. I lost 100 lbs which was necessary for me, but the hair went with it. Finally did the big chop (heartbreaking after five years of trying to grow mermaid-esque hair), and now I'm losing less hair because it's not getting tangled and brushed all the time. Although it's hard to keep my scalp from showing, at least I've got my health back, and I hope you're able to get well soon, too. Thanks for this and you're beautiful as ever!

I don’t know if it’s a culture thing, but wigs aren’t only for people who are “sick”. And women you don’t have to explain yourself to anyone why you are wearing a wig. Wigs are definitely a choice and it’s not the only option out there. Women of color and entertainers have been wearing wigs and similar hair pieces for years. Find yourself someone who has some knowledge and do your research as well. Many things are health related and environmentally related and it can’t be fully reversed but there are options. My heart goes out to those who are sick. Just know bad days don’t last always🌈

"Everything's much more reversible when you are young" I went to the dermatologist, doctors, skin center doctors, all of them, when I was around 19 or 20 when I realized my hair was half the amount it used to be. And I get the same response from all of them , "Oh honey, you are too young to be worrying about hairloss, it looks ok" and off the sent me out of their doors. That's disgusting. I'm blessed with good genes when it comes to hair loss, but it's so unfair, that services that can prevent others from losing their hair and not being given just because of age. Some people lose hair when they're 19, some do when they're 90, they should still be offered help, especially when it is more reversible.

From one Cancer battler to another: Shaving my head during chemo was the most satisfying and cathartic thing. It helped me feel in control of an uncontrollable situation. None of us ask to have Cancer or any other illness and there is noting wrong with losing your hair. It shows how much our bodies are fighting this battle to stay alive. So PLEASE shave your head. You will look a bit weird at first and feel like a stranger is looking back at you in the mirror, but I promise it is easier than watching the hair fall out. (PLUS your wigs fit and feel 1000% better with a shaved head)

I am a 17 year old guy, and my hair always used to be the focal point or conversation starter of my every discussion. People were in LOVE with it, it used to be this great curly blonde hair mass on the top of my head. But its been a year now its been falling at an extensive rate and its come to the point where i can now, just like you pointed out in the video, can see my scalp more than ever. I have visited a number of trichologists/ dermatologists and they have all come to the conclusion that its just my genetics and theres not much i can do about it. Some days it just really hits me how this is happening to me at such a young age. I feel embarassed of what my hair looks like and i have also noticed that i am now very conscious of my hair and making sure im adjusting it so to cover any highly thinning spots etc. Very similarly to the video, i also feel embarassed for being angry/ sad over my misfortune when there are so many other people in this world with much more serious problems. I just wanted to say that hair loss is not something for someone to be made fun of, it does affect your day to day mood and thus your response to a great deal of things. I just wished there is something i could do to prevent it. I totally get you.

Malnourishment can cause hair loss as well as thyroid issues. @@orchidpearl8501 At 15, I was the same way. It's actually when my hair started falling out. I felt like I was never stressed and I didn't know what that feeling was. Everytime my friends talked about stress, I felt like I couldn't relate. But, personally, I think that's not it. I think that some of us just don't know the feeling of being stressed so when we are stressed, we don't know it. I'm 20 now and I feel the same way. I don't know when I'm stressed and I don't know how stressed I am until my anxiety comes back. I don't know if it's the same for you, but it might be. Either way, you should tell your doctor. Tell them your hair is falling and you don't know why. See if they test your thyroid or find other issues. If they don't, it's probably stress.

I'm a 7 year colon cancer survivor. I was 30 when I was diagnosed. I had a life threatening allergic reaction to chemo and had to stop after only 4 infusions At that point, I had lost about 30-40% of my hair. My body hair came out with a gentle tug too. After we stopped chemo, I cut my hair into a short pixie because I was sick of having hair in my food, all over my pillow, etc. It stopped falling out about a month after chemo. About 2-3 months after chemo, it started growing again. At first, it was crazy tight curls. I had to cut off everything that was from before chemo, because the straight ends stuck out ridiculously from the curls. It was super curly for about 2 years, then suddenly started growing back with it's previous wavy texture. I did occasionally wear wigs when it was super thin (I had quite a selection from cosplay), but I felt so awful from the chemo that I rarely ever left the house.

S/o to Becky! I remember when they posted her story about how she used to get injections in her scalp and she's so confident now. Her beauty is unchanging. If anything she's more beautiful now because of her stunning confidence, not only in herself, but she radiates it onto other people.

I remember when I was about 8 my mom had a best friend with breast cancer, she was loud and quirky and always made me laugh. Once she started getting chemo she started getting sick and to me it was like she was a completely different person. She had super long black hair and so did I and I had never seen anyone without hair (other then men) but all I can remember from after her appointment to shave her head.... is how stunningly beautiful she was. She strutted into our house from her hair appointment and twirled around in her dress with a bald head and I was awestruck. The day after I made my mom take me to a hair dresser and cut all mine off too!

Stay strong girl. I recently just got dentures after three years of having no teeth. I know it isn’t hair, but I feel your teeth are judged similarly by society. I became afraid to go out or even to look for work. Ever since I got my dentures I feel a lot better about going out but it’s taking time. Everything is a process. And as a curly haired individual myself, know that you have the curly haired community behind you. You are beautiful. You are amazing. You are a survivor. And most of all, Your amazingly strong; just being so vulnerable and posting this video proves ALL of those things.💕

Cancer survivor here and do not let your hair define you. I was modeling and had hair all the way down my back when I was diagnosed. Due to treatment I lost most of my hair. I had a wonderful hairdresser who shaved my hair off. It was actually quite freeing as I didn’t worry about what I looked like then. It grew back thicker and wavier. And I actually fell in love with short hair and wear it in a cropped pixie all the time now. You totally got this!

Comments like this are so ANNOYING! I've been losing my hair for almost 3yrs now & comments like that make me feel like ppl are dismissing my feelings...like I'm supposed to no longer love having hair. Why do you think some women get breast implants after surviving breast cancer, etc? It's much bigger than just having something to make you look pretty. It's feeling comfortable in your own skin & feeling like yourself when you look in the mirror.

Potato that’s so sweet, thank you! I have androgenic alopecia and it started two months ago. I feel you. I always had thin hair to begin with but it made it even worse to the point where I probably lost 40% density already. Worst part is, I have to blame it on genes. Sometimes I wish I had some underlying medical condition so it could bring some sort of closure to this. But no. I am under treatment but sometimes I would rather not take 3 pills a day + minoxidil so I can maybe see results in a few months. This on top of my acne is sometimes very hard.

My hair has always been one of my best features. People would always comment on my hair so when I was diagnosed with Leukemia I was very nervous to loose my hair but for some reason it was the easiest thing ever for me. I decided to cut my hair short in a pixie cut , I rocked the look until a lot of hair started coming off and then I shaved my own head. I stared at myself in the mirror for awhile and some tears came out but then I was just ready, I was excited. I LOVED BEING BALD and I HATED WIGS. They were so HOT but sometimes I would wear them to play around and take pictures , those were the perks of it. People concentrated on my face more and always got comments on my " pretty face or pretty head " . I focused on skin care and had way more fun with makeup. The best part of everything is when My hair started growing back , THICK VIRGIN AND CURLY. I was shocked and so happy, because after beating my battle I felt that it was a kind of reward for me having healthier and better hair. I enjoyed being bald because I felt free and my beauty was based on who I was, my personality and my face. lol I'm the kind of girl that idc what kind of shape you are but a cute face goes a long way (: DON'T BE AFRAID TO ROCK YOUR LOOK, DON'T BE AFRAID TO ROCK A PART OF YOU. Cancer will always be a part of me , my journey, my struggles and Growth so I chose to embrace my fight I ROCKED that look. I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT, you are very strong and beautiful !!!!!!. EMBRACE YOUR JOURNEY THE GOOD AND THE BAD , THE FAILS AND VICTORIES . IT ALL MATTERS.

I have trichotillomania. This isn't something I share with others but this video really helped me. I'm lucky enough to have a caring and uplifting boyfriend who reaffirms me, even when I have bald spots I can't cover, that I am a beautiful woman. Hair isn't a trait, it isn't something that defines who you are. Nevertheless, it is a constant taken for granted. Something you never notice or have to worry about leaving you, it almost feels like you're falling apart. But it's important to remember that it can come back and even if it doesn't, you're still who you are and always will be.

When somebody started working on her hair they were pulling off clump after clump of hair and you can tell the hair stylist was getting scared. Dear people: Please if you can grow your hair out! My hair has always grown fast so I’ve decided whenever my hair is long enough I’m going to cut it and donate it. DO NOT DONATE IT TO LOCKS OF LOVE THEY CHARGE FOR WIGS. I personally donated to wigs for kids. (it’s a nonprofit organization) most donation organizations do not accept grayed or dyed hair. They accept anywhere from 8-12 (as a minimum).

Please stop spreading misinformation. One quick Google search shows this is incorrect or at the very least extremely misleading. Locks of Love is geared towards providing hairpieces to those who do not have the financial means. Caretakers of the child submit an application for a hairpiece with their tax return. If it shows that they do have the financial means they may pay for a hairpiece based on a sliding scale up to $1,000. Hairpieces, even with donated hair, are very expensive and labor intensive to manufacture and can easily run up to $3,000. Applicants who have shown financial need DO NOT pay for a hairpiece. www.snopes.com/fact-check/donated-hair/

If you're buying a wig you should go to a black hairdresser and buy good quality not a cheap one as it's not for party and it's more comfortable as it's made for comfort and breathability. You can dye it whatever your heart desires. Best of luck xxx from Kenya

The hair she has now is about the amount of hair I have naturally. I am not sick, it's just my genetics and I feel all these feelings so much. I tie my hair up every single day of my life, I'm 26 now. I feel like a 'creature' all the time. My daily routine is trying to style my hair in a way that my scalp isn't peeking through. I've looked into wigs on many occasions but there's nothing really nearby that I could go to or they're all really short styles generally for older people or they look really plastic. Plus wigs are really expensive and I scared of getting scammed online. There's also the idea of how do I explain to people at workd ect that I am wearing a wig. When you're ill it's almost like you've got a 'justification' and it makes me worried that me turning up one day with a wig on will get a lot of unkind attention and lack of understanding. I'm realy shy too so I dunno. Hair is seen as this sexy, feminine thing and it can be really hard for us who just aren't born with thick gorgeous hair to not feel like we're less as a person because we weren' born with a great head of hair. She looks wonderful in that wig btw and I hope she gets better soon !

You guys should try those natural oils/products that help your hair to grow (just like castor oil, coconut oil, garlic and onion oil, ginger, aloe vera,...) even if your hair is thin naturally, it will still help it to grow, to be thicker and stonger.

We are all "creatures", I have the feeling that you are more pure and amazing than 90% of the assholes out there, running around acting like they have it all. Like I appreciate you trying to help but I already for several years use all those things and more. castor, coconut, argan oil, Amla, Brahmi, Shikakai, natural henna masks, natural shampoo's, no heat, no chemicals, head massages, biotin, vitamins ect. and no I don't keep my hair in a tight knot nor do I wash it often. It's simply genetics. You can not grow more hair if your DNA doesn't allow for it. It comes across to people like me like telling someone with severe achne to wash their face before bed and drink lots of water. We know, we've tried it all already. My hair got healthy and shiny but I didn't grow thicker hair or more hairs. Nothing noticable anyway. All this stuff is great for the health of your hair and scalp and if you've lost hair cause of damage or something it'll help regrow healthy hair but they're not a miracle workers.

i hope her confidence increases immensely. cancer is inevitable, but confidence is much easier achievable for most people. she or anyone deserves to be able to go outside and not be afraid to be themselves in the most raw way possible. i’m sending my prayers to her🙏🏻💙

My sister had cancer, and her high intensity chemo made her lose her curly hair. She was ok with losing her hair, but she was mostly upset with losing her eyebrows and eyelashes. She refused to wear wigs (chemo made her skin super sensitive and wigs were painful), and she opted to wear bandannas and cute caps. Her hair grew back a couple months after stopping chemo, don’t worry if it takes a while to see growth after you stop chemo. Good luck girl!!

I have seborrheic dermatitis and I know it's nothing to compare with cancer, but I'm in middle school and it's hard to go to school while losing hair and falling shakes on your clothes, because some people make fun of me because I have 'dandruff' even tho It's not dandruff but they think it is. I am NO way comparing to cancer or any other hard illness I know how hard cancer is because my dad's cousin had it and we were really close, but she unfornuetly passed away because of it. I don't care that much what people say about my hair anymore.

Whats the trtt for it? Or what do you use
@tajdacad93276 жыл бұрын
@@tipwo6921 I use shampoo that is designed for sensitive scalp and some creme or something that you put on in the shower and message it into scalp and then rinse it and it gets rid of a lot of dry skin/shakes but after like 2 days I normally have a lot of shakes again😕.

I don’t have cancer but last year I lost a good amount of my hair due to kidney failure and malnutrition. And it was extremely hard for me to feel confident and beautiful. I always avoided looking at my self in the mirror because I didn’t want to cry when I saw my hair and swollen face. The only thing I did to make myself feel better was buy a really expensive wig because I didn’t want people to know I lost my hair, but now I’ve gotten to the point that I want to cut my hair off because I’ve realized I don’t need hair to feel beautiful.

I had issues with hair loss for years. My daughter had a major surgery and I stressed from her diagnosis until her last treatment. I tried everything but of all things I heard about black tea rinse. It works!! Spray it on your hair and let it set about 30 minutes under a plastic cap. Then use light amounts of olive oil after you condition your hair. Massage your scalp daily to stimulate healthy blood flow and make sure to use a good hair moisturizer, I only use Cantu products. Drink lots of water, take vitamins, rest and exercise. In the meantime stay close to God. You will make it! May you be blessed every day.

My mother had breast cancer and she didn’t want to deal with the hair falling out emotionally or physically on her pillow and in her drain. Her and her friends got together, took shots and shaved her head. She bought two wigs she really loved and rocked them until her hair grew back. Wishing you all the best in whatever journey you’re on! I thought I would share what happens when a strong woman takes control of her situation.

i’m 13 years old and i have alapecia i would like to say that if you put your hair half up that’s all my hair :( you know how hard it is for a middle schooler to be balding because of stress :((. Like i’m such a happy person, i love everyone but no one knows that if i’m alone with my thoughts at night or in a quiet room that’s when the tears start to fall i’m sorry if that was too much but i didn’t know if i said this i would get so much reactions

I am from Canada and I just came back from the United States for medical treatment because I have been vomiting everyday for the past 8 months and I am now underweight for my BMI and malnourished. The treatment I received in San Diego was amazing and I feel about 40% better than I did before going. I too am experiencing hair loss due to anemia, weight loss, stress, etc and it is hair as a young women to go through😔 thank you for sharing this because it validated so many things and it is a great message overall! I hope you have a great recovery because you are a beautiful woman inside and out 💛

I was literally there so recently. I used to have thick gorgeous beautiful long hair. It started falling out when Lupus decided to become part of my life. It thinned so bad that I became self conscious of how I looked. I was lucky enough to have it start growing back but the ends were still super thin. I chopped it all off and cried when I made the decision. For so long I hid behind my hair and that wasn't an option. You will rock out no matter what your hair does.

I’m doing my undergrade thesis on Anthropology of Cancer, and all I can do is congratulate you for being so open about this issue. In the process of gathering papers and information I’ve learn that it is pretty usual to feel like you are losing yourself (seen as vigor, femininity or even as been identified as pretty or not) when you lose some physical attribute, such as hair, breasts, or even “healthy” looking skin. I really like how your experience can give lights and hope to everyone in the cancer community, thank you for being so brave by showing us that this fear -of not being perceived like everyone else because of hair loss or loss of some physical attribute- its just as human as it gets 💕 greetings from Chile!
