Hey Scotty Kilmer, my grandpa parks his car in the driveway. It’s inclined a bit and I’ve been telling him to put the parking brake on. He doesn’t believe me that it would do any harm to the transmission. What would happen to the life of the automatic transmission if he keeps doing this over time? And on average how much does it cost to fix a transmission?

The young man has put a lot of thought into his ride, and unlike some of us whose hobbies are indoors, he gets to share his with the world. Good on you, sir! Financially, it doesn't make a lot sense to own and repair a used BMW, but what financial sense does it make to play golf or go fishing? Hobbies are hobbies. Kudos to Mr. Kilmer for featuring this video!

Do you know anything about cost of ownership associated with the n52 motor and the e90 platform? It would appear not. Plenty of examples out there with 200+k. This motor, especially the run after his model pre-lci, is a gem. If you’re ok with a corolla, get one. If you prefer enjoying your motoring youth and having some fun, what this kids doing makes total sense, except it’s a shame it’s not a manual. He’ll grow out of the m striping grille phase...hopefully And yes, I have a 3 series 🤣

Thank you for giving me a chance to showcase my car Scotty. I'm looking forward to some more of your DIY car repair videos because she's 11 years old now. I always laugh when you make that grunt to emphasize that you've tightened a bolt 😂. More detailed video: @ the custom rgb lighting wasn't shown, the subwoofer wasn't shown (and underseat woofers), the door BMW logo ground projectors weren't shown, the RGB light up stripe wasn't shown (scotty cut the video). To answer some questions I saw in the comments: - the head unit is by Avin: PX5804GB32-E90 - the exhaust cutout is by EvilEnergy: 2325H Some further details: - I plan to redo the interior carbon fiber wrap when I replace a broken side panel trim piece - This car pulls sound from head unit to feed to an amp that powers a JL subwoofer in the trunk in a ported enclosure. The existing tweeters have been modified with capacitors to increase clarity. - There are also 2 Pioneer 10" subwoofers installed under each seat - the amp is by rocksford fosgate - The kidney grille tri-color logo was an experiment I created with neon light tubes inside plastic clips that resemble the color of the bmw M logo, it is meant to be controlled by a remote relay, but since the plastic is brittle, and the clips are visible from the sides of the grille, I will probably remove it. - The m performance sticker on the dash is actually positioned improperly and doesn't look great and I pealed it off. - The keyfob allows you to roll down all the windows, but you must physically insert the key into the door and turn it to close all the windows and the sun roof. - the backup camera is concealed in one of the rear licence plate illuminating LEDs and previously failed. I used some waterproofing to help ensure that it wouldn't happen again.

328i,325i and 330i are the more reliable E90 3 series to own. The 335i and 335is are always prone for more frequent maintenance because they come with turbos, plastic water pumps and had recalls for their oil pump. I know someone with a 2008 335i and he replaces the water pump and some other parts every 20k miles. But they’re not bad cars if you aren’t lazy to research in KZbin and Bimmerforums, shop at Pelican Parts or ECS tuning, have some kind of passion in ghe brand and do most of the maintenance on your own, plus an access to a garage with the necessary tools. I think the best BMWs to own are the non-turbo ones and ones with less electronic options added into it such as electronically adjustable suspension.

Hey bro. Forget these losers dissing on you and your ride. Do the best you can with what you've got and find a girl that can appreciate that. You'll get that M one day. My son just bought his first car 04 E46 330xi. 260k and it runs like a swiss watch, hugs the canyon like it's on rails and gets crazy good had mileage. We're covering the hood and roof in carbon fiber wrap after we fill in the hail damage. Why? Because it's his first car and he doesn't have $1700 for a REAL hood for an 04 car. You love your ride and it's fun to drive. ENJOY it and Thanks for sharing!

In the 12 years of ownership I replaced the brakes once, the top twice, the headlight assemblies once and replaced the clutch at 198K miles. The only reason I sold the Z was that I moved to Ecuador. That car with a small 2.2 liter 6 cylinder would cruise effortlessly at 130 mph (210 kph) on the autobahn while giving the impression of only going 70 mph. The brakes and handling were the best I've ever experienced, simply awesome. I then knew why they called it the Ultimate Driving Machine. But over the years my opinion of BMW has changed. It seems they're now more interested in electrical gadgets and with Scotty saying they're money pits. But if I lived in Germany where repairs wouldn't be so expensive I'd love to give one a try.

I agree! When I bought my E61 530d M sport back in 2019, the guy who had it last had the M badge on the grille, and the kidney grille was blacked out. First thing I did was replace it with the factory grille and removed those M sport badges. Obviously they are placed all over the interior, which I like… but that’s stock from the factory.

@@georgesmbyd6603 lol maintained or not they still cost a small fortune to fix... even if you do your own maintenance. 20+ parts are prone to break that cost well over $200+ (self maintenance included). You're going to have to spend like 4-5k in parts alone every 4-6 years lmao. Worst part is most of the aftermarket parts (not all but mostly) are just the same cheap plastic that were used in the previous parts that were also prone to break every couple thousand miles.

@@georgesmbyd6603 How long have you had it for. Maybe not exactly 5k in parts (depending what you buy) more like 2-3k and year of the car. My uncle owned an e30 back in the early 90s and my friend owned e90 335i. Both fell apart even when regular maintenance was done due to cheap plastic parts. Some BMWs last more than others but idk if it's a maintenance thing or the way they were manufactured from factory.

Sadly, there is a lot of group about BMW that has no basis in reality. Among those who actually own and maintain them, they are well-regarded. I put over 200,000 miles on a 1984 325e, and it was highly reliable and not expensive to maintain. [Not great in snow, because its tail happy]. Most of the BWM haters have never been within 3 miles of one. They just repeat what they read online, trying to be part of the cool haters club.

I bought a used 2007 BMW 328xi with 156k miles at the end of January. I drove it about 200 miles and everything was fine. I left it alone for about a month because of expired temp plates and then all of a sudden it wouldn’t reverse when I drove it again. It’s a common issue but it’s sad how such an appealing car can be trash. It turns out that GM makes the transmissions and uses some cheap plastic part involved in the reverse mechanism. Talk about luxury.

kyle Reversing should no be an issue in any car. I have a cheap 2004 Hyundai Tiburon with 200k miles that has a good engine and transmission with no reversing issues. It’s like saying your going to by an older home and it’s okay for it to have plumbing issues.

in germany they are worth between 15 and 24k with decent milage/km and they were very stabile for the last years. and were did he put that much money in he hasnt done anything crazy. the 600 dollar radiosystem is the most expansive for sure. and you can find these used for like 250 or 300. and it is his hobby and passion why even bash him for that ... its like the non car people lecturing someone bc he tunes his new epansive car ... the worth of the car makes no difference when he has fun with it. since it is a rwd, straight 6 with 250´ish hp i would say he is going to have a lot of fun for a long time so why not invest in it a bit to make his expirience even better btw the 328i/330i e90 is for a lot of people the go to car from bmw to have fun and be cheap in a long run (no turbo and a solid engine) ... this is a car that a bmw fan, a car guy gets to have fun and if you dont know that then you might be more the all show fan that just wants to look cool i bet this kid got the car for other reasons than that

When I had a 328i I modded it. I didn’t put M Colors or M anything. It was BMW performance that I repped. I dipped my 328i badges black and flaunted it. I even kept the double single side exit exhaust and showed that off. Nothing of this car was touched by M. Be proud of what you got or work for what you want.

So many people upset over an m badge when you can take this car to a dealer and they will do the same if you ask them. BMW will put anything on your car if it fits and you have the money. Any m sport package like steering wheel, exhaust, break calipers and so on. LEGIT ANYTHING. so one sticker does nothing. He just likes it and i applaud him for it. You do you man. Enjoy your car. I just picked up a 2014 328i Luxery package car from a dealership. An old lady traded it in for a Toyota highlander and she always had it serviced regularly at BMW so i got a steal. Mostly highway, never smoked in, and never driven hard. Definitely gonna be going to BMW and Kiesmotorsports to get this puppy some more muscle.
