Theres generally two kinds of jewish that peoplego by. The ethnicity and the religion. So him saying that, he was probably referring to the religion where as she actually meant she was jewish as in her ancestry and not necessarliy her beliefs, because obviously by the life she leads, shes not a religious jew.
