Over the break, I worked in my neighbor's food truck and we'd sometimes be adjacent to the yumpling truck. It's tough when its really cold and location really is everything; when it's warmer out its a lot more lenient but often times, getting prime location can mean a difference of hundreds of dollars. On upcoming days with less than optimal weather, he would also stake out the places with a sleeping bag, all this for a working window of only 4-5 hours to take on the lunchtime rush. On a good day, we'd get over 120 orders with yumpling garnering just as many, if not more. At end's shift we would timetimes trade food (why waste food LOL) and their dumplings and bowls score a minimum 4/5 every time. Always a good eat.

Wondering why they wouldn’t open earlier if there are line ups 30 mins before opening?
@CaptainSalazar695 жыл бұрын
Nick S cause you need every minute of prep time plus like they said nothing draws a crowd like a long line
@christopherflores90295 жыл бұрын
They're still getting everything ready? Also if you do that once then you gotta open up early everyday people will expect it.
@azamdin35525 жыл бұрын
If they open at 11AM instead of 11:30 because of the lines, then people will line up at 10:30, then they are gonna open at 10:30, then people will line at 10, then they are gonna open at 10, then people will line up at 9:30 and then then then so on.

I don’t understand why these spots are not rentable ? Instead of paying tickets the city should rent these spots to food truck owners its so stupid
@asadb19905 жыл бұрын
NYC figures they make more by charging tickets everyday than a stock rental fee. and the fines are variable.
@SunnyWu5 жыл бұрын
A system like that would be better. For this guy to be driving sleep deprived like that puts other people at risk.
@bijucyborg5 жыл бұрын
How do you decide which food truck gets prime spot? Nepotism will kick in as soon as you reserve spots. If you auction big food chains will start bidding for spots.
@ninacubana5 жыл бұрын
bijucyborg thats how it works in france for « the farmers market » its in the streets once a week and every spot is rentable you just have to agree with the others who gets which place. Idk these poor people sleep in their trucks it gives a third world vibe to me
@fightsports665 жыл бұрын
There is a cap on the number of permanent spots for food trucks in manhattan. The city has not raised the cap in years because brick and mortar restaurants feel they take away business. Basically the city wants fewer food trucks.

Why tickets though? They have license so why the city is charging them “alternative tax”?
@colombiantom5 жыл бұрын
I would assume because there is a limit of hours you can park in a place. (1 hour, 2 hour etc). If you are a food truck you park for longer than that and you can get a ticket for violating that regulation.
@fightsports665 жыл бұрын
There is a cap on the number of permanent spots for food trucks in the city. If you do not have one of the permanent spots you park on the street and have to feed the parking meters like any other vehicle. Sometimes they misread signs and park in the wrong place just like anyone else parking on the street.

Only in America is the "American Dream" trashed by ticketing a business feeding people, providing employment and growth. Yes, definitely they should pay a fee or license to park, no dispute there. But a fixed fee so they can properly budget it. Laughed when the truck drove away with the parking tickets still under the wiperblade!
