No wonder delivery drivers went on strike. No AC, shit equipment, heavy lifting that I've never even been asked to do in a factory. It's amazing you found someone who likes the job through all of it; imagine the kind of happy workers you would have if you did better.

You have a great point. However, …possibly, someone finds this job fulfilling as a purpose beyond themselves by serving their community. Who doesn’t anxiously wait for their package? Literally, it’s true what they say…If trucking stops, everything stops. That’s no exaggeration and the truth is that all of us (myself included) take these folks/services for granted in no time flat. Additionally, compare the pay, conditions, and quality of life to 90 some percent of the rest of the world. That’s the perception I have earned in my deployments/military career.

If I get a nice van, I will clean it up myself, with armor-all and everything! ... but that's mostly just when I get one of those custom delivery vans, Ford Transit or Ram Promaster walk-in vans. It's really nice to be driving in a pristinely detailed cab. Worth taking 15 minutes to clean it up. ... then again, I am kinda weird and I find it satisfying in a way to clean up dust and stuff.

I know this life 😅 I very rarely use the dolly, even for heavy stuff I’m usually carrying it. It’s pretty smooth overall. Unmanifested packages was a on going problem when I first started so I started scanning every package that I could at the warehouse before I take off. The best way to make your day quicker is to use the map on the scanner and get about 10-15 stops ready in advance so you can just grab & go.

Ive done this job about 5 years now. While FE consistently makes life exponetially more difficult for contractors and, in turn, drivers- I still mostly enjoy the solitude and adventure aspect. My breaking point will likely be the express integration as inefficency drives me nuts and driving the route over and over to meet times just bores and aggravates me. That and the impending requirement for us to run the route as DRO directs. The enjoyment factor is whittled away just a bit every year.

4:52 LoL. Impressive. ... This is why I love those customized cargo vans, by Utilimaster or I believe Rockport is another one that makes them. They turn nice cargo vans into walk-in box truck-like things, so the cab is super nice - which includes WORKING A/C - what a concept - and they even make the bulkhead door and walk-in door to have easy access. You can literally push a button and the bulkhead door opens. I hear the walk-in doors on the newest vans are also opened with a button, but I have not driven one of those. And when you are doing a lot of stops in one neighborhood, you can just leave the walk-in door (or bulkhead door) open the whole time for running in and out, back to the seat and going. Then when you need to cool off, just close it up and blast the A/C. ... granted that a lot of those custom vans don't have as much cargo space as the big step vans, but pretty close! And they can turn a Ford Transit 350 or a Ram Promaster 3500 into a pretty damn big box truck/van.

The main pro i see with Fed Ex is that you dont have to pay for wear and tear and gas like food delivery. And i view it as you're being paid to work out as well. My experience working for FEDEX in Colorado was not good at all. They only trained me for two days and then left me by myself. There were days I would get stuck in the mud or in the snow. It would take them anywhere from 2-4 hours to send someone to pull me out. I would arrive at the facility around 7:15 Am and wouldn’t get off until 8pm-9pm. Not a job for the weak to say the least and they pay is definitely not worth it.

I’m thinking about moving to FedEx from Amazon. The Rivian vans are really nice though and the gps is much better at Amazon.

@bmwvuk1 21 күн бұрын
I work for an Amazon DSP and since we are the newest DSP at our station, we get the hand me downs when it comes to vans. Very few have straight body panels on them and there’s always some kind of malfunction light lit up on the dash. They just tell you it’s a sensor and send you on your way. I usually get 140-180 stops a day with 200-275 packages. The pressure to fly through your day is pretty high. If you are too slow, you aren’t guaranteed a route. I’m going to a FedEx Ground contractor because I was told that I’d never have over 100 stops and their vans are newer and better maintained.

FedEx has a (mostly) unspoken reputation in the public of poor delivery especially on the driver/contractor end. For every good driver that does a great job, there is a corporates culture that ignores customers who get bad service, often getting painted as unreasonably, over demanding complainers. For customers needing signed deliveries, you are basically held hostage at your home all day, only to have the drive NOT knock on the door, leave a sticker, and is gone. And before the “not all” police chime in, I know that, but bad driver service happens all too often with FedEx drivers. treated like the enemy

It's a toxic culture at FedEx. A lot of employees get treated like garbage too. The only ones who don't are those who are related to someone else in the company or someone who just happens to know someone else in the company. Nepotism and cronyism are rife.

I just took my physical exam/dot today I believe I’ll be having my in person interview next week some time. I’m only 22 im young so I have time to see what I really want to do in life so I’ll give this job a try. But one thing I don’t want to do is destroy my back, so I’ll see how the first week goes then I’ll determine if this job is worth it.

Leaving the giant heavy box in front of the front door so they can't even open the door haha get wrekt! If the customer is a douche I like leaving the heavy boxes flat on the ground so the customer has to struggle picking it up.
