I live in Asheville. My wife is the Medical Director for Buncombe County. I work at MSD as a wastewater operator. FEMA, and so many private organizations have been with us from the beginning. The FDNY arrived last week to take over coordination of fire and rescue so our people could go deal with their own shattered lives. The destruction of infrastructure is astonishing. 2 of the 4 highways into the area are destroyed. Whole towns have no roads going to them. There are 5,000 National Guard in the area. There is a constant stream of every kind of helicopter flying supply and rescue routes. This local knows EXACTLY the heroic effort that people are putting in under the worst of circumstances. Nurses that work with my wife are volunteering for supply distribution after working 24 hours in shelters after their homes have been destroyed. FEMA has showers and food for them so they can do this. Is it perfect? No. How could it be? Preparing for a hurricane in Asheville is like preparing for a blizzard in Maimi. The scope was unimaginable.

Hello there Timmy, I have been flying with Swedish Rescue Drones in search of Missing People searches here in Sweden. SRD is a volunteer organization that has members in all parts of Sweden and we come together for missing people searches when we get a request for a search in each member's local area. Drones are very effective to get to difficult areas and if we come together in numbers we can quickly search big areas.

I will say this....generally speaking. There were immediate responses from neighboring counties and states to NC and TN. Some of these areas were just so difficult to get to that it took time. I can't imagine what those people stuck in those areas felt like. I'm assume they felt abandoned, but they weren't. It just took time to get to them. So don't downplay how hard efforts have been to help. And if you hear that aid is being turned down, get the full story first. It might not be what you think. I saw an interview with a rescue worker near Chimney Rock where aid had to be turned away. It wasn't because they didn't want/need it. They got a huge influx of aid from neighboring counties and didn't have a way to store the excess. So they told them to take it to the next town that needed it. I think she said it best when she said they needed help in waves.....periodic supply drops so they don't get overwhelmed with supplies they can't store. I'm in East Tennessee. In Unicoi County, they had to start shutting down roads to keep the gawkers from jamming up the roads and making recovery efforts more difficult. In the heat of the flooding, we had rescuers die trying to help. There are many stories of pure tragedy and heroism. I see very ignorant and heartless comments downplaying how massive and destructive the flooding was. Such as oh, you should be prepared for a 100 year flood....😮. We lost bridges...dams... roads... ENTIRE towns. Our infrastructure was not meant to hold up to this type of flooding, BECAUSE these were unprecedented amounts of water dumped on NC and TN. For a lot of these communities, the alert to evacuate was sent out after cell towers went out of service, so they didn't even know what was coming down on them. Most people aren't even researching before popping off at the mouth. The info is out there. Google how much water was dropped on NC and TN. The conspiracy theories about aid and FEMA have gotten so bad. Don't go off what your brother's cousin told you he saw on Facebook. Look for reputable sources of info.

Helene and other storms dumped a whopping 40 trillion gallons of rain on the South, NOAA says Experts say Helene and other storms dumped enough rain on the Southeast last week to fill 60 million Olympic swimming pools. Author: Audra Phillips Published: 9:06 AM EDT October 4, 2024 Updated: 9:06 AM EDT October 4, 2024 CHARLOTTE, N.C. - As Hurricane Helene cleanup continues, we're now learning just how much rain fell in the Southeast last week. Helene's rainfall totals are stunning experts with an unheard of amount of water. Let's connect the dots. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says more than 40 trillion gallons of rain fell in the past week, including the preceding rainfall event in the North Carolina mountains. That's enough to fill 60 million Olympic swimming pools.

God bless you for offering him a place to be if needed. Please let your folks know. Alaskans are sending what we can only to local donation sites. If you have a list of trusted local donations, could you please place their names in a reply so that I a great grandma lifelong Alaskan can get information out to those of us who are trying to coordinate our efforts to send funds to those who need it. God bless you and God bless North Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida. May this message find you soon! Y’all are in our prayers, and our actions and deeds.

I hope many people affected by the hurricane saw this video. It might help give them an idea on finding a way to get to nearest hall/church to get supplies 🙏

Our Government needs to STOP foreign aid and concentrate on what is happening here in Americas! I'm ashamed of the way our leaders are handling our own circuses.

Prayers to all effected from Australia 🇦🇺 we went through something similar a few years ago around Lismore on the east coast of NSW, absolutely devastating for thousands of people some will never recover most didn’t have insurance because insurance is either too expensive or they don’t cover flooding ! But to be fair this natural disaster you guys have experienced is on a scale far larger but same destruction to our communities here ! God bless the people of Carolina in Jesus’s name amen 🙏
