Dear Maeve and all the Hollingers, I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when I was twenty-nine. I'm now about to turn 70 years old, which means I've been dealing with this challenge for forty-one years! I want to tell you that -- like you -- I've never used diabetes as an excuse for why I can't do something. So, my life has been lived to the fullest despite how difficult it sometimes is to successfully manage my blood sugar. Keeping your Type I in good control is worth all the effort it takes. It will pay off! Enjoy your precious life, Brave Maeve! You are amazing, and you have the best of families!

they gave their kid diabetes with vaccines. vaccines cause diabetes and mmr does specifically. they recently took it off the warning label to cover it up lol. almost all type 1 diabetics are vaccine induced.
@ruslinleaves3 жыл бұрын
@@Hey.bekind777y Joe, that's an interesting theory, but when researching my family history, I found three relatives who lived before vaccines were available, and they all developed what we'd now call Type I diabetes. To say that "almost all type 1 diabetics are vaccine induced" seems an overstatement. While I fervently wish there were an easy explanation for why people become Type I, I think the jury is still out as to the cause/causes of this malady.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in april 2008 (I was 8 years old at that time, about to turn 9 in July). I'm 18 now, which means I've been dealing with this bloody challenge for 10 years. Yes, it is hard, and I remember me and my parents were devastated when I got diagnosed. You sometimes sit and wonder "why me? Why did this happen to me?" but you learn to accept it. I'm hoping and wishing that there will be a cure out there some day, of course, but for now it's just a part of my everyday life. Best of wishes to you, Brave Maeve!

Yeah girl! I'm with you! I was diagnosed at a year old too! I've only had it a few more years than you. Sometimes things get rough and you wonder why this had to happen to you, but if you try hard and stay strong you can do anything. It's never held me back before, I just have to pay extra attention to my body. And I've got a CGM too. Those are a great help. You will have so much fun in public school too! Kids find it really interesting, and you can impress them with all your cool skills. They think it's really complicated but we're almost experts, aren't we. They're getting close to a cure, we just have to hope for one and stay strong, I believe it will happen. Stay happy and full of life kiddo! You've got this, you're not alone! ❤❤❤ P.S. I'm not a fan of sites either

This is so inspiring. I have been a type 1 diabetic since December 2004 when I was 6, 13 years later I'm nearly 20 and I am doing well. I am on a Medtronic pump. I was using a CGM, but found that it didn't work for me. I heard that a guy named Ed Damiano out of Boston is one of the pioneers designing a bionic pancreas. Very cool! Another good resource is the book Elle and Coach by Stefany Shaheen. It is about a girl that gets a dog that will act like a cgm and can sense when a persons blood sugar is too low or too high. Apparently the dogs can sense a specific smell off of us. Maeve you are truly amazing! I hate getting the shots too. I still am scared at 19. Mios by Medtronic are very easy sites you can put in yourself! You are very lucky to have a nurse right in your classroom...I was never that lucky but I had a paraprofessional. All the best to you and your beautiful family!

Dear Maeve and your parents - our son Austen was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 6 years old. He is now 22 and is just finishing up his senior year at The Ohio State University with a 4.7 GPA in Finance. A number (besides his GPA) that means much more to him, his dad and me is his A1C from last week, which was a 7.1. His endocrinologist gave him a "gold star" and smiley face for making it through college and keeping control of his levels along the way. Austen is a happy, 6' 3" handsome guy who has worked hard every day like you do to make sure he's healthy and strong. He played lots of competitive soccer, has many friends, a beautiful girlfriend, and you'd never know how hard he works to keep himself healthy. We know and are so proud of him. He has been our brave dude (his name doesn't rhyme w/brave like yours!) for 16 years now and his older brother and sister and the rest of us are just in awe of him. Please know that when you get older, your levels will be easier to manage! Be well!! You have the best smile! Show less REPLY

Someweirdwitchbich I think back to some things that happened to me in highschool and want to puke. Like how they told me I couldn’t have my tester on me it had to be kept in the nurses office and if I had a low I had to WALK across the school to the office to test my sugar. More than a few times I fell walking. I also had a health teacher explain that type 1 is something you’re born with and I asked her in front of everyone “can you explain how I was diagnosed at 12?”

I had four cousins in the same family with diabetes. Three of them are dead now. They lived into their 40's. One of them is still alive but he is not healthy but still doing okay. It's not an easy life. It's a daily struggle. I'm so glad she was diagnosed quickly. Not all children with type 1 is that lucky. Lot of children get misdiagnosed and unfortunately die or end up with brain damage and impaired. This is a good story. Great parents.

The 640g insulin pump really helps, especially with the sensor. You can see changes in blood glucose levels on the graph and it helps you see where to adjust things. It also suspends insulin delivery when it senses a drop in sugar levels. It really helps!

I have type one diabetes since i was 10 .Ive just moved into year 7 and it's gotten harder for me.I always have high or low blood sugars .I was in hospital for a week when I was diagnosed and had dropped from 35kg to 28kg in 3 months.I had to have tubes on my wrists so I could have liquid and insulin.I didn't eat for 3 days.I was rushed to intensive care.Its still the worst moment in my life.Ive never used it as an excuse but one time in primary school in year six I wasn't allowed to stay over at the sleepover camp and had to leave at night and come back the next morning.I came back one day but then couldn't complete the last day since the trip was so far.I missed out on the best day and I still am really annoyed at the school for it .Sorry for the rant just a lot of things have gone wrong .

Insulin is insanely expensive and beyond many peoples reach. People should not die in the “greatest” country in the world” because they cant afford medical treatment or medicine. What happens to this child and those like her when she is an adult? If many had it their way she would be unable to access care because she wouldnt be able to get insurance or afford treatment.
