Always the story teller... wow the the production levels on scale with high level pro sports. Who da knew without you, so thanx Nurk! Some day at some point talk about the scale of course and speeds. Corelate it to Aviation Race planes, where a live pilot in an aircraft does not have a "ooooh I crashed, oops" factor. Much more like your cine fpv world less "oops" factor. Keep flying, get the shot, tell the story. Really admire what you bring in content.

Wow! Amazing amount of production going into these races. Thanks for a look behind the curtain. As a principal 'data' engineer for a large communications company and someone who has a history of building out, and troubleshooting, corp. data centers I know how much cabling and engineering goes into an event like this. Takes a team to make this stuff work. Nicely done.

Here's one thing I discovered from this video that I found interesting: I think that many of the overlays (e.g. pilot standings, etc) are created as webpages, and then super-imposed on the TV feed. This kinda makes sense because webpages are probably the easiest way to create good-looking displays that can be easily updated. Also, I would be interested in a logistics view of a DRL race. How far in the future are the venues scoped? Who makes the tracks? Who books the hotels? Who is the first person on site, etc?

DRL should allow for pilots to make their own drones, within a set of basic parameters, allowing for innovations in various aspects of the drone. Innovations that can bleed off into (influence) the community.
@NURKFPV2 жыл бұрын
DRL is a stock league, not a spec league, so I think they'll keep it that way for now.
@RonWilliams2152 жыл бұрын
@@NURKFPV ahh… never realized that. Any idea on when you think they might incorporate personalized Quads? I would imagine there would be a lot of marketing potential for different electronics/manufacturing companies, etc. Also, I feel like a person in you position has the ability (along with others) to mold (guide) the industry.
@zachmachina2 жыл бұрын
@@RonWilliams215 that's just not really the spirit of drl. Drl is interesting to watch because everyone is flying the same thing. And the drones can't be too high performance or the racing won't be as close or as intense. These drones have been very intentionally built and that's noticeable in multiple. These are purpose built drones to put on a show for the spectators. You start straying from that for "innovation" and you lose viewers. Lose viewers and you lose people getting into the hobby. Lose people getting into the hobby, you lose advancement and innovation in the hobby. None of the pilots seem interested in moving away from stock either. It'd also be a much bigger logistical nightmare to have so many different types of drones being built up and managed.
@RonWilliams2152 жыл бұрын
@@zachmachina I understand DRL is keeping the equation simple… so that the product of that equation revolves around the skill of the pilot. However, there will be an evolution of the industry where as more people attain the same level of piloting, a monotony will occur, requiring new variables-such as equipment. …Imagine if “pod racers” (Star Wars) used the same vehicle to race…
@zachmachina2 жыл бұрын
@@RonWilliams215 they update the drone to a newer version when necessary. You don't need to worry about it becoming stale. The closer the pilots are in skill, the closer they are in the races and the more interesting it becomes to watch. That's not a bad thing, it's something drl intentionally forces. They recognize not all the pilots are the same skill level so they use the equipment to make it seem more like they are. It's not interesting to see one person just win every race. Too predictable, not exciting. But that's still what's happening because Evan is on another level, despite the format being "rigged" to keep everything close. Still, it makes things a lot closer than it'd be otherwise. There are multiple reasons star wars uses different pod racers, but none of them apply to DRL. It really boils down to the fact that in star wars, they have complete control over everything. It's not a recording of a live event. In star wars, they give the different pilots different pod racers because they are highlighting who anakin is as one of the main characters of the story. They want to show his technical expertise to be able to build something out of nothing. They want to show how disadvantaged he is because he's flying something built in his front yard. They want to make it feel unfair. It's a harsh planet where life isn't fair and Anakin got the short end of the stick. But he's able to overcome the odds because basically he's magic. That's not how DRL works. You can't write a story where the underdog wins because magic when it's real life. If you could, that'd be a great story, but that's not how real events work. The racer 4 is also super sleek and polished and part of the drl brand. You can't really take that away (aside from updating it to a newer version). I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm not trying to convince you that it SHOULD stay stock, you've clearly made up your mind. I'm just letting you know why it WILL stay stock.
