Something that I’ve noticed with celebrity feuds happen is that the fans of each celeb tends to take sides and actually fight it out. We saw it with the Hilary vs Lindsay fans, Miley Cyrus vs Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez fans, Olivia Rodrigo vs Sabrina Carpenter fans, and even the team Edward vs team Jacob fans from Twilight.
@BetterWithBob3 жыл бұрын
There's an episode of the cartoon The Weekenders in which the boys have a minor falling out over a pool game, the girls take sides while in a cinema and everyone else in the building immediately starts arguing about who's right when they don't even know them. And it's probably the perfect metaphor for how these feuds can escalate

Funny how different the celebrity spotlight is when it comes to dating in different countries as a celebrity. Like you said, we look at celebrity couples as a drama but if this was in South Korea dating another celebrity might be a career killer.
@leahalford57693 жыл бұрын
Bro south Korea is no fuckin joke when it comes to their celebs and kpop stars! The crazy (and borderline inhumane) contracts, working them to death even when they're not famous or successful yet, not to mention it seems like they train like that but yet somehow despite the time and hard work it's still not even guaranteed that they'll make the cut and join a band even if they're talented! The workouts and diets are legit dangerous, they're always watched and controlled like they took away free will from them! Everything about them is curated and planned. Some people have said they're forced to be single cause it's "bad" for their career. Seriously someone save those poor people!
@AirQuotes3 жыл бұрын
Is that because the fans are so territorial or because dating in general is seen as bad?
@leahalford57693 жыл бұрын
@@AirQuotes I think the first one. Cause people date there all the time when they're not famous no one cares. But yeah the fans would have something to do with it. It's kind of a marketing ploy especially with young female fans of male stars! The fans get so territorial that it actually angers them if they're dating someone. The execs will sometimes say that it's bad for business cause they'll no longer be seen as available. The fans like that they're single and think there's a chance for them even if there isn't lol they don't feel as connected anymore and they may avoid the star cause they don't like seeing them taken. It's dangerous for both parties as well. No girl will be worthy and death threats are a daily occurrence. That's not just south Korea but all over even in the US! Chris Evans and his ex long time gf for example. The fans played a role in their break up and it made life hell for them. This goes for sexuality as well. Men will be told not to come out as gay cause the fans will feel a certain way about it. It's really fucked up.

This stuff still happens with Disney stars! There was a period where I thought maybe it ended but it’s very much alive and well. But, I think it was spun in a way similarly to Taylor Swift’s situation. I’m talking about Olivia Rodrigo’s meteoric rise to stardom this year through her song “driver’s license” and her album Sour (long story short, the song is supposedly about her ex, fellow Disney star Joshua Bassett. the “blonde girl” mentioned in the song is allegedly Disney star Sabrina Carpenter). I think none of the actors have any sort of actual animosity towards each other and it’s interesting seeing all three of them spin the situation to their benefit when it comes to releasing music. Olivia seems to be the most successful with this with the sheer amount of record breaking streaming numbers and awards she’s received (and well deserved! the song & album are absolute bangers!) but Joshua & Sabrina have also released music around the time of this drama. It’s just fascinating to see. At this point I think any actual beef has been squashed but we can still appreciate the music by these artists and how their respective PR teams navigated the situation.
@plantycassy3 жыл бұрын
All fueds aside, I commend Olivia Rodrigo for writing a great album as a way to heal.
@mckenziejeanne45083 жыл бұрын
I love all of their music but I agree that it's definitely a publicity stunt. That doesn't make it inherently bad, they're just using this situation (whether or not it is real or manufactured/exaggerated) to make money and achieve success. I really can't blame them, I think people do stuff like this as a career move more frequently than we assume.
@ayindestevens61523 жыл бұрын
It never ended. Some of us (especially myself) just grew out of Disney so the feuds didn’t matter anymore. But now the nostalgia pull and Rodrigo’s name recognition is bringing us back so it’s kinda nice for Christy to be our guide in this.

I never bought the quote unquote “feud” between Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. They felt almost one in the same; a key distinction being how D.C. was backed by its own corporate namesake as opposed to the latter network supported by ViacomCBS. Disney had financial investment and influence to market their rising young talent, therefore adding pressure to maintain a wholesome, squeaky-clean image. Even when Nickelodeon dabbled with the pop star formula, the reputation of their talent was never a top priority.
@rvegas813 жыл бұрын
I agree. I do think it was smart for Disney or a channel like Bravo heavily promote their own talent’s music albums.

@@rvegas81 I think of the Disney Channel from the early 2000s onwards as sort of the kid/tween-friendly equivalent of MTV than Bravo as far as once being a platform for young recording artists like Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Demi Lovato with animated programming sprinkled here and there.

I’m a ride or die Hilary fan lol what do you expect from someone about to turn 32? I think you and Hilary are the only ones who really navigated life after Disney in a way that was very private but respectful to your fans and those who looked up to you. It was a different world but I feel like parts of the early 2000s were a more authentic side of Disney because it was pre social media. And yes there were feuds but we were also smart enough to be like “not everything you read is true” but in social media anyone can weigh in on any situation. Which can be good because you’re getting it straight from the source (sometimes) but also very toxic and petty. I miss the simple times of the early 2000s sometimes! Also, it was refreshing to hear support for Taylor. All Too Well in all it’s forms is brilliant and beautiful. She made it clear that she was rereleasing these albums so she would own her art.. and Red was mostly about Jake, her first big love that destroyed her. The backlash is crazy to me because she wrote these songs over a decade ago, she’s not actively hating on him but is taking a legal loophole to own what she created. She did mention that she used to cry when she sang this song, but now it’s her favorite because all of her fans (and anyone who has ever had their heart broken) can relate. And her fans made it one of her favorite songs to preform live. She mentioned that she’s healed, happy and very much in love in a relationship that is not public. That looking back on your younger years in your 30s is the way to go because you have had time to heal, grow and gain perspective. ❤️ love all of your content! The mix of honesty, authenticity and positivity is so refreshing!

@@mattb1568 I can relate on some footnote. I remember being part of two shows when I was younger. One where I played kid host on a children’s educational series which I actually forgot about until one night, My Dad was going through the family album & found a photo of me when I was maybe 6 going on 7 & told me, “Oh, that’s the photo we used to get you an audition for that children’s educational series you hosted as a kid.” That was news to me, but I’ve noticed how my family does something odd which is whenever something big happens in my family, 9n e it is over with, they don’t talk about it. I even remember my Mom telling me when we moved back home, not to tell the other kids at school I was on t.v. I did do a couple of movies in my teens, but during my 20’s,I met up again with the Producer of my children’s educational series who wanted to do a reality series with me. This was in the 90’s. I remember him saying how since I wasn’t a kid anymore, he wasn’t going to treat me like a kid & he asked me, what did I want from this series? I saiid, No matter how tough it, don’t give the audience any b.s., because I felt if you were honest with the audience, that you belt a bounding with the audience. This series was very different, he knew me since I was young & how odd things happen to me even then & wanted to know if, I still had my gifts or not? Sure enough I did, so I made a psychic reality r.v., with my Aunt Joan who was also psychic. (I want to add, I know how this lady feels about psychics, but not all of us are bad either, in fact, I didn’t stick with the business either.) mostly what I remember from my 20’s, was when cleaning houses, people remarked as to how mature I was for a 23 - year old. Well, I was always mature. However here is the oddest thing, to this day, I can’t remember the name to either series or movie I was in. I remember what certain episodes were about, but not the name, which is why so many of my friends do not believe me, but I think sometimes, when you don’t talk about stuff for a length of time, it becomes harder for you to remember later on.

Aaron Carter had a lot of bangers and let's not forget he was in the 2004 movie Fat Albert with Kyla Pratt, Kenan Thompson, Omarion, Marques Houston, Jeff Garlin, Fonzworth Bentley, Jermaine Williams (who starred in the Disney Channel show The Jersey), etc.!!

Wait, I think I remember Jermaine Williams from Secrets of Sulphur Springs, that’s a current Disney Channel show. I am surprised he was on a super old Disney show and decided to come back for a guest role on a new one haha.

I would be careful feeding the Taylor narrative as well. She said it best herself when she mentioned she's not the only one writing songs about exes. People don't try as hard trying to figure out who Ed Sheeran wrote "Don't" for. I think the fans plus the spark of tabloids fueled this narrative for her. So many stars date so many people but Taylor is put under a magnifying glass. It's part of the reason she wrote "Blank Space" and "Shake it Off." In fact, Christy should know better than anyone that the record labels love when you write mostly love songs because it's what sells. I love that Sara Bareilles wrote "Love Song" to kind of combat just one topic kind of songwriting.

As someone who follows the wrestling community, oh yeah, there are still ratings to this day. Always hearing about WWE's ratings, or AEW's ratings, so yeah, still a thing. But I agree, building these feuds between someone so young, I can see how that can cause problems later in life.

I always thought that it was why movies like the Princess Protection Program were made or why they created that Friends for Change circle of stars video. I remember when the Miley/Selena/Demi feud was splashed over the magazines and then I would turn on the TV to see them all singing like a big happy family in "Send it on."
