What its Like to Drive a "J-MOD" Crown Vic!

I get a chance to test drive a 2009 Crown Victoria P71 equipped with the OG transmission mod known as the JMOD. I give you my first impressions of what its like to drive a vic with one of these!

I don’t have the tools or a garage to work on it .. I’m very limited can change oil and do breaks , starter, and replace an alternator never messed with transmissions before

NICE! I jmodded my transmission years ago and its by far one of the best mods I've done. Absolutely love it and recommend it. While you're in there doing the work, get a superior products tough plate which is a beefed up separator plate which remedies the issue of the cracking separator plates on the 4R7XX transmissions.

so does it get rid of that dead zone? when i reach like 60 km/h the car upshifts into fourth and then its just a dog i gotta press the pedal half way to get it to downshift 1 gear lol. and the shifts are slow and mushy. trans is in good shape tho

@@CLS55-Fonz basicly it makes the transmission shift faster and if you want faster down shifts have the downshift holes drilled bigger but when i tell you it will slam into gears if you drill to big it absolutely will

@Arctic so theoretically what would happen if u didnt do any drilling just took out those springs? im gonna drill the hole normal size but im curious what the outcome would be if you didnt do any drilling

@@CLS55-Fonz you would absolutely destroy your bands without the springs on this transmission you want to do it the drilling way also get a tough plate and a sonax valve the one with the rubber on it because most valve bodies are worn to crap by the time you get to them

Yes. Do it. The separator plate is a week spot and the Jmod replaces it for un upgraded thicker plate.

Man nothing like the panther cars I have a 03 marauder low miles I'm waiting on my shipment from adtr to Moe's they are installing the adtr pro charger kit and the stainless works full exhaust with long tube headers and the full adtr performance suspension Chris at adtr is awesome it's been about 3 weeks now so not much longer I opted for everything to be coated in black so it takes a little longer

What's "better" for YOU may be "awful" for the majority -- which is just ONE reason that most cars sold in America have Automatic Transmissions. For sure, nobody likes a "Slush Box", but the J-Mod makes the shifts more positive, and there are Aftermarket Shift Kits that let you tune your shifts to your satisfaction. The famous 95 MERC runs a 4R70W, with a B&M Shift Improver Kit # 40264; a B&M 13,000-lb. Trans Cooler; Motorcraft Trans Filter; B&M Drain Plug Kit; and CASTROL "TransMax" (MERCON V) Synthetic Trans Fluid. @@AndrewHemstreet Sorry, Andy -- I forgot to denote the "MERCON V" designation on the CASTROL "TransMax", which I use exclusively. Good with a clutch !?? YEP. That would be ME. Shifting gears since 1958 -- 3, 4, & 5-speeds, with a 13-speed Ford Dump Truck for good measure. Even 4-speed Column shifters, which are quite rare. Most are 4-on-the-floor. My 2 Toyota Land Cuisers had 2 shifters -- I for the Transmission, and the other for the Transfer Case.

J-mod saves the clutches but... under trucking use, it will brake the axles. clutches will hold up to 700lbft, and force that into the axles "from the crankshaft deceleration" into every 1 to 2 shift un-necessarily. just enough to see the speedo go up 15mph on the 1-2 shift, 8000 stop then goes from 1st to 2nd... and the OEM 4340 axle brakes. fix it for $5 not $55?

I've very disappointed you completely ignored where this came from and what the J stands for. Show some respect for the true OG's to whom we have to thank for the J mod which isn't a kit, it's instructions. You're just trying to advertise whoever selling a kit. You can do this yourself with a couple separator plate gaskets and some drill bits available from granger, McMaster carr or your favorite tooling supplier that has wire gauge drill bits. I got my gaskets from a trans shop, drills from granger because I work near one, and a case of fluid from rock auto, but you do you.
