Dream Angel Yeah but that’s how it’s represented in Japan. Japanese media typically make the more mischievous girls super touchy and flirty. Also in Japan there is a huge, not demand but, appreciation for the “pure” type that’s not really seen in Western countries. I agree with what you are saying but ultimately cultural differences as well as personal inference and choice is why he attributes PDA to the more promiscuous type.

Exactly, i dont understand why? We humans have evolved as a social beings for survival we have this built in instinct to want affection and give our attention to who matters to us not just for a lover or companion but for friends family and other living beings, And this guy says that i would leave a girl if she shows me love or affection? Maybe he meant if she shows too much love/affection at inappropriate times or all the time and couldn't put it into sentences , or so i hope. Wow dating in Japan does seem to be such a hassle like some kind of chore no wonder they dont have sex that often and many dont seem to be wanting to get married or have kids at all these days in Japan

Is it just me or does there seem to be a distinct disconnection between Japanese men and women?? Like...it explains so much now. Men want one thing, women want the exact opposite, and neither side is willing to compromise or at least be upfront about their wants, desires, etc. On the surface they're so conservative when it comes to sex, romance and relationships...but then they're the leaders of creating spaces that replace real human interaction with artificial relationships, dating simulations, host clubs, etc.

To generalise the two genders into moulds of your own making, is quite hypocritical, don't you think? Each individual is a spark of life; each spark of life have their own nuance. Just because in our current present, there exists a difference of perceived traits between the genders, does not mean these apparently 'common' traits, aren't actually common to both genders. I believe there is a sort of equality between the genders that in the end, if someone understood how to do the calculation, will result in an equal sum with very slight variation.

Yeah, that's quite accurate for Brazil too, at least where I live (or for me, idk). I feel like that's the right amount of acceptance. It's fine to give your partner a peck and the other stuff listed, but when it starts to get too close and touchy, then it's not ok, that stuff should be reserved for when you're alone. Though it happens quite a bit around here, I feel like it's disrespectful.

A lot of people seem hung up on the whole "guy walks on the traffic side" thing but it actually predates cars. It goes back to when buildings were built with a second storey overhang and there was open sewage in the middle of the road. Men walked so that their lady would be covered by the buildings and be less likely to get poop on her. I guess it's still a nice gesture (less likely to get splashed by a car?) But I don't really make a fuss about this anymore.

@@aninani8294 Makes sense. I'm a European man and I try not to let women notice when I do that. Guess that's also why most men (me at least) feel more comfortable facing the bedroom door while we sleep; so we're more prepared in case anyone should come in. And I say that despite living in one of the safest countries in the world. BTW: walking as close to the road as possible also has the benefit of making most cars try and steer a bit more clear of you which means they're less likely to hit the puddles that are usually on the side of the street so you don't get splashed.

@@aninani8294 No, I'm Faroese, my English might be better if I were British. I correctly assumed from your name that you were German. I happen to understand German perfectly though I'm not good at speaking it. Men sometimes start off doing things like these consciously but then end up doing them out of habit. Hard to say for sure though because there are a lot of things we do subconsciously like for example the way we nod to greet other men; we tilt our head forward if it's someone we don't know that well or don't know at all but don't see as a threat and tilt it backwards if it's someone we know well. I don't know how that became the rule but we all do it.

I remember once when I was working in Japan, we had a big company meeting. All the teachers (native and Japanese) were to attend, and the company would rent out a convention centre. Me, being 19, and the new employee, I opened the glass door and let the female teachers in first. Each would kind of stop and bow to me as if asking if it was alright, and I would say "Osaki ni douzo" and they would scurry past quickly while bowing. What started as a few turned into a lot, and I ended up standing there holding the door for most of the female teachers, including my supervisor, as well as a couple native teachers, so I was standing there for about 7 or 8 minutes. At the time, I didn't really think about it, but at the after party I noticed a LOT of the teachers were doing that thing where they would glance at you quickly then turn to their friend and whisper and giggle. One of the older native teachers (old guy from UK) drunkenly told me that a LOT of the teachers were talking about me to each other, and they were surprised that I had such manners for such a young guy. He also told me to 'be careful' around a few of them.

In my country Greece displays of affection not just between lovers but also between family, friends etc is sth that is never doubted. Like I literally hug my friends I don't see in class every time we have a break for instance And even our greeting gestures(as a country) include a handshake and two kisses, one on each cheek. In relationships I'll have to say that PDA is unquestionable. Ofc there are cases where it becomes too much but that's the case for every country. Seriously I can not imagine being in a relationship in Japan. The girls seem like they want all that affection and love and care but guys still force those weird old fashioned ideals of Japanese women being like porcelain dolls or something. I feel so bad for this country as it is never going to redeem itself when it comes to birth rates. Young people don't like relationships. Guys mostly. I've been watching the Ask Japanese videos about relationships all day today and I keep finding out that guys don't like dating like normal people. They pursue the girl and after they get her they just have her as an accessory and request she contact them only once or twice a day. I've also seen a video where Cathy was asking about a popular term in Japan "Herbivore men" which is basically guys never pursuing girls!!! And soooo many of them said that most guys are like that nowadays. This is a serious social problem! Like how is there going to be a future for the Japanese if less and less people ever get into relationships??????? Also I'm not trying to say that it is entirely the Japanese men's fault but they do play a huge part in enforcing so many old fashioned and pointless rules onto women that lead to this mess. It is also the women's fault for not expressing themselves, their wants their beliefs and need for change. Yes, it is in their culture that they don't express what they feel, being indirect and all that I know but how do they expect change if they do nothing. This is all so shocking to me and I feel really bad about this cuz I love Japan so much as a country...

I have seen a few of these types of videos lately as I have been diving into Japanese culture more, and without a doubt, the most common thing said by Japanese girls on the street when asked about foreign couples or foreign men is how they wish Japanese men were more romantic and not as easily embarrassed about it in public. I have heard very, very few women say the prefer the distance, only Japanese men seem to think women want that more. They really need to catch up and actually speak to the women around them. Don't just say "I don't think it's right". Leave your ideas out of it and straight up ask the woman what she thinks about that stuff. The only thing I would worry about is if one of the women here, or in the other videos I've seen, say the opposite because they are doing the math in their head about it being a Japanese male and it might make him reconsider dating her. You never get anywhere if people don't actually say things honestly to each other.

You would think that being courteous to their girlfriends (holding doors, etc.) is not something that should be difficult to start doing. What also amazes me, is how most of the girls interviewed talk about how they would like boys to be more affectionate, and the boys talk about how the Japanese girls don't want that.

Displaying affection in public is a form of marking your territory as to relationship bonding for both the men and the women. A lack of representation of this type of social display hides the connection of trust and bonding between couples or any type of relationship and usually can be a sign of a weak bond that can be interpreted as being not as strong.

I actually learn to walk on the street side from my parents - they always placed me in the inner part of the walkway and explained to me why, so I naturally do that with my wife (and friends, and any woman I happen to walk with). I also automatically raise an arm to the side when approaching a road crossing if I see a car incoming, once I did it instinctively when I was alone and saw in my corner vision a woman going straight for the crossing without watching. I've never been thanked that much as in that day.

When I went to Japan I was surprised because there were people here and there kissing and hugging but I guess Tokyo doesn't have that type of love, best place for me :'D (So lOneLy)

Many Japanese men care about the other person's feeling and emotion first before they do. They think showing affection in public is a little offensive to women. But I've seen newly wed JP couple are holding hands occasionally, other than that kissing and hugging are pretty much prohibited. One thing I could think of many JP women do wear makeup, kissing may ruin their appearance. Tokyo is populated metropolitan and Japanese do concern their personal hygiene especially during the flu season.

What I've learned from this video is that I really need to learn Japanese other than just small phrases I catch from watching too much sub titled anime. I caught maybe 10 words or phrases out of this whole thing lol

Interesting, the perspectives in these videos help me understand the comedy and vibes in anime a little bit better. Affection is uncommon in public, so that explains some of the "accidentally lucky" and other romantic slapstick a but more. Also gives it more weight and meaning too, which is heartwarming when it comes to romantic anime.
