Hey every now and then you come across a channel and you wonder why the heck i never new of this before. Your channel gave me that very same feeling. You’re an awesome content creator. You’re a poet, do you know it? How you put in phrases like ‘if you like it i love it’. Or … see eye to eye etc. I’m so jealous. I wish i had that gift of the gab! :) Anyway, i loved your video but was amazed how the. things you list are the thigns i would never think of and the things you. Warned against are the things i am into. I am 51 years old and live in the UK. I have a degenerative eye disorder and am blind. They first thought i had RP, but apparently i have a form of battens disease. Very rare. So i was a civil servant when i started losing my sight. I was a ‘transcription manager’ and continued to do that as i lost my site. So i had to manage a team of 20 individuals who were to do quality checks on text transcribed from handwritten very old manuscript. I now wonder how the hell i did that. But i was good enough to get promoted. But i was tired of working for the government and wanted to learn a skill …. So i decided to become a lawyer. I did a ‘GDL’ or graduate diploma for law. But then i thought, if i continue studying law, i will not be able to have a job as this will be really demanding, so i need to have a means of income so that i can still support my family. I started my own eCommerce business but then loved it so much that i decided to do this instead of law and i gave my up government job for it. Then i went on to have a marketing agency for my own and we help other brands online. So everything i do is on the computer :) Now i have my own KZbin channel. Actually i have two. There are some awesome individuals leaving comments here. Guys if there is anything i can do to help or provide mentoring, visit my channel where you can get my email address. Get in touch. Now excuse me as i go binge watch Alisha’s videos.

I have Stargardt’s Disease. I am a sixth grade teacher, and I have to be honest and say it is difficult. The middle school age can be mean because they are immature. Still, much of it has been rewarding. This year I am able to teach online, and I’m loving it! I also have always loved writing so I hope to get info that one day.
@alishainc4 жыл бұрын
Yes it is very difficult. I’ve worked at a middle school and my vision was much better then than it is now. Even then, they would make comments. Didn’t bother me because as a nutritionist (after school program) I was more concerned about them not cutting themselves lol but I can relate to how you feel especially since you’re an educator and how you feel impacts the class environment. Have you spoken to them about it before? They can be cruel but they can also be compassionate once you explain what’s happening to your retina. It’s good you’re working from home. Gives you a break from being exposed to their attitude

The thing I was contemplating, was settling for something less than I'm satisfied with, since I had convinced myself that accomplishing more wasn't going to be feesible. Hi Alecia B, my name is Emily and I am totally blind. All my life, I’ve wondered what jobs I can do. My dream really, is to be a DJ because I have a huge collection of Funk and Soul music that I’ve created for 30pluss years. It started with the love of radio and my brother’s cassette tapes. When I turnt 12 I flipped through the radio dial in the 80s and found my 92.5 and I never left. It played Funk and Soul and the station may have been sold, but I never left that station in my heart. I went from record store to record store after rent was payed and buggabooed buggabooed buggabooed the store people about do you have this or that. It’s still on with the collecting. When the internet came out, I couldn’t download right away because I didn’t know how to do it on Napster. 4shared I could do all day long and now, KZbin and ITunes. ITunes though, is about to lose a customer since I can’t transfer files onto my terrobiter hard drive anymore. My mobility skills have never been good so I take the MTS buss, or friends help when I wanna go out. Even with that MTS though, I know how to get some place on time. Although my mobility sucks, I have computer skills, on my own computer and my friend taught me how to use my IPhone so I’m good with Social Media. Somebody said I’d be a good blogger but I never knew how to start a blog and when I go to KZbin, sighted people directions and blind people directions are totally different. Also, that Jaws, when it comes to doing business, can be a pain in the ass. Another thing I don’t know how to do yet and I wanna learn, podcasting music like a DJ, not for the money, but for the opportunity to do it because I’ve loved Funk and Soul music since I was little and I’m 48 now. How many people go through their lives not having a job by this age? I feel like an alien from Mars when it comes to this. Anyway, if you have any suggestions, please let me know. Oh, I’ve went through stupid Voc Rehab and they gave me the run around. I became a Braille Tutor at one point in LA, but I had to go back to where I live because I couldn’t find any permanent living place in LA. I’m thinking now, we’ve come along way in 20something years, now with the internet, there must be something for us as blind people.

My other friend was giving me all kinds of advice but I’m not worried about a lot of stuff right now, I just wanna get those shows on Soundcloud and make some more. I’m basically, running my mouth and playing music. I’ve been collecting Funk and Soul music since I was 13 and I’m 49 now and still collecting. So, musically the show is gonna be off the hook. As far as my talk on the show, I think I need more practice.

Would love to hear about the editing equipment. I am leaving a message from my from my daughter's account. She has recently become legally blind.. We started college as the diagnosis began. As her mom I need assistance. She is taking a class that will require her to learn Adobe Premiere. So it will help would to know how you access it. I love how you talking about purpose. This is something I mentioned just last week at her college. And YES reading now difficult and we have been using Kurzweil. Unfortunately, it isn't always able to read assignments and has glitches. Do you know of a better reader. Writing this morning because I have been up most of the night seeking help to ensure that she is educated. She has always been low vision but being legally is different. I am my daughter's biggest advocate. Help regarding accomodations, resources and just how to go about life

Sorry for the typos. I accidentally hit the send button! Lol and I am sighted. However, the gist of my message is that any help you could provide would be great. We need help with supporting the Accessibility's Department at her university. Thanks Ms. Thomas

@@leeleeb7413 I don't work at tje bedside anymore. I do case management so I mostly work on the computer and phone. I probably could get by with a magnifier though if I did still have to work at bedside. I had to do injectable meds on myself over the summer and I used a magnifier to mix and draw the meds. It was fine.Don't know about doing things like IVs and blood draws but most hospitals have specialized nurses and phlebotomists that do that stuff.

I feel like it's not equality when they want to "fill their quota" on blind people or diverse people. I am still planning on getting my Master's of Education in Family and Cobsuner Sciences. Stargardts was just discovered in me last year and my vision had gotten worse this year but I don't want to give up my dream. I just don't know how to do anything as a blind person and how to promote myself in a job, despite my vision problems. You'd think it would be against the ADA to not hire someone because we need more equipment but not sure how that works. Thanks for the video!
@alishainc4 жыл бұрын
True quality which is why I was questioning if affirmative action is the right freezing… And the alternative would be discrimination which honestly is happening right now and I’ve experienced it myself I know many people who have not been hired from the job because originally impaired. It is illegal, the company still do it so that’s why I wanted to mention the places that do want to feel sluts with people that have vision loss. I wrote ahead is not going to be easy I can’t lie but we have to find ways to make it easier for her selves and accommodate ourselves or companies will not work for companies are going to I hope that this journey strengthens and you find satisfaction in what you do. Just remember the hard times you experience and what you overcome will help the next blind person wanting to do the same thing 💙
@TC-87894 жыл бұрын
I think of quotas and affirmative action as a conscious counter to unconscious bias. If you look at the industry you work in, the schools your employees are coming out of, your own company... and you see a gap... and you know no one around you is an overt bigot... there is still something lacking, still something leaving people behind... Companies fill quotas, but they don't fill quotas with unqualified people. So fuck it, take the job and run.

Good suggestions for persons like Us.? with disability. I believe that if we come together and support each other, we could even have a better stage to show our Talent... For example, what if we create a group or a website in where blind people can come to show their talent and what they are capable of doing so that others can See.!.
