@@Y1836Y i was waiting for the Rabbi to mention the Jewish idea of gender roles: masculinity is giving out infinite abstract potential. Femininity is choosing one option and realizing it. Everything that exists in Creation has a male and a female component, even something as basic as a line, which begins with an intangible point with the infinite potential to go anywhere, but only gains dimensions by being extended into a line. But a line is only one possible reality that the initial point could have formed. Action is binary (do or do not, there is no try), like Halacha must be binary, and since the body concerns acting out the relative missions, I suspect any soul leaning masculine in purpose gets schlepped into a male body, and likewise any soul leaning feminine gets a female body. Thus souls ranging from 100% masculine to 51% masculine get a male body, and vise versa, which preserves the reality of both binary sex and also the reality that each person has a slightly different purpose.

Hi, I am a transgender, although a rather religious type of one. I am male, born male, but I am ok with it. I'm just a feminine one at that, I like doing things that women usually do, and i am a care taker in my family. I never wished to have a uterus or get pregnant or anything biologically female... but the typical feminine things, I've always been drawn to them, and I'm happy doing them (like getting my nails done, my hair, dancing, being free spirit, joyful...), i feel in my best. I have gone through cosmetic procedures to have a more feminine face, to look like a woman, so people do not mistreat me, and I have better chances of finding a job, etc, but non invasive ones, nothing extreme. So i'm not the classic transexual type, i'm more of just a transvestite.. I have found peace in my self accepting both my male body and my feminine personality and self expression. None of my problems have to do with being this way, I don't experience existencial suffering because of my gender situation ... just perhaps with the loneliness of being different but I've found in spirituality a way to cope with this...in general, my life is peaceful and i'm very grateful. anyway, just my perspective as someone who is transgender but do my best to be close to God and to live in peace...perhaps a perspective that is not very known in the public perception.

I think that people who want to change their gender are searching for their own authenticity. Two-component paint is like a marriage - two parts that mix and never agree on who is really responsible for the mess in the garage. One part of the color always says, "This is my chance to shine!" The other part quickly replies, "You can't shine without me!" And so, their comical battle for attention begins. Some say that when two-component paint is mixed, magic is created. It's true, but sometimes that "magic" ends up being a vague shade that no one is happy with. Two-component paint on the wall often behaves like two people trying to tango without a practiced step. In the end, the wall ends up with a few unexpected patterns that weren't part of the plan. The joke is that, while these pieces of paint fight and compete with each other, the walls become like a canvas on which artists tirelessly create their unconventional masterpieces. In short, two-component paint is like a sitcom where two characters keep getting into funny situations, and the result is always something unexpected and incredibly funny! 🎨😄

With all due respect to the Rabbi, I disagree here. I can think of people who think they are trans coming up with arguments that counter everything he's said. If I may be so bold, what people are missing here is that male and female are biological synergies, meaning, you can't reduce it to just one thing like a uterus. A woman is defined, first of all, by the fact that she is human (as opposed to any other animal) and has reached fertility or has aged beyond it (as opposed to a little girl), and then the female aspect is a whole bunch of stuff: XX chromosomes, all or at least most of the reproductive organs, containing eggs, wider hips, narrower shoulders, certain combination of hormones (lots of estrogen and comparatively little testosterone), a thin layer of fat under the skin that softens her contours and makes the skin feel softer, a different tone of voice, shorter than most men, smaller hands and feet, and then a variety of behavioral characteristics. A woman isn't every single one of these things put together, but at least a majority of them put together, the most critical being the XX chomosomes, which determine the rest of it. Any given woman may have a deeper voice, as Shorah Agdashloo does, or narrower hips, or she may be infertile, or she may have big hands and feet or a more manly face or she may be 6'2", but the rest of the characteristics are there. The same could be said for a man. I won't go down a list because I think everyone gets the gist. There is a multitude of biological and behavioral characteristics that all combine together to determine a person's sex. A single or perhaps a small number of characteristics may be missing from that person, but the remaining majority still shows what sex that person is. And "gender" has become a somewhat ambiguous word that is thrown around very carelessly, but then regarded with an undeserving precision. Depending on context, it can be synonymous with the biological sex, but it can also refer to each of those individual characteristics associated with the sex. OR it could have little to no biological reference at all, as is the case with gendered languages, since some inanimate objects are given masculine or feminine pronouns for no ostensible reason.

Thank you so much, excellent talk! Wish the conversation had veered towards the subtle as well: for example, a person in a man’s body who clearly has ‘female’ sensitivities that are not ascribed to males- undoubtedly, the conversation would’ve also gone to discuss what it means to have, like you said, a man’s temperament, a man’s personality, etc. which might have lead us right back at the beginning to: what does it mean to be male or female! Great dialogue opportunity. I used to babysat a little boy who was soooooo butterfly gentle and empathetic, such strong feminine energy. ♥️

My jewish teachers taught me that our bodies are a gift from God so we must look after them. Self harm is a sin. It's why we don't even allow tattoos. Trans surgeries and drugs mutilate and sterilize these kids. It's clear. Some think it's hateful to not support these "transitions". I think it's far kinder to teach these kids that they are perfect just the way they are. I.e. they don't need to take a knife to their body to fit in this world.

As a psychotherapist, I had a client who transitioned from female to male. I was not treating him for a gender transition. When I first met her, she was in a lesbian relationship, and I was doing couple’s therapy. They moved to Seattle. In Seattle, my client, let’s call her/him X, discovered the trans community, and decided that being a “butch” lesbian was the best she could do, but that her soul (she didn’t use that word) was masculine. So she began the process of transitioning from she to he. His female partner accepted it. Tragically, she died of illness, while still in her thirties. X decided to move back to Minnesota. He was well on the way to transitioning, dressing in male clothes, using hormones, had changed his name. Over the next few years he had major surgeries to remake his body. The hardest part of working with him, on other issues, was changing his pronouns. When his voice changed, it was easier. He believes he was always a man, somehow trapped in a woman’s body. Although I am very empathic, I could never really understand what it was like to be him. In his sixties now, he is having serious health problems, which I believe are due to the drastic surgeries he went through to change his body. So the question that occurs to me is, is it possible that he was a male soul in a female body.

4:05 i agree debating two equal opinions goes nowhere, but that a president has veto power "otherwise nothing will ever get accomplished"... that's not how it works. something must happen for veto to be exercised. sometimes congress actually does make a decision. veto is an override of this decision, preventing it from happening. there are times though when congress is deadlocked and nothing happens. the american president cannot force a decision.

Thank you for this video. For my part, I've been considering this and other LGBTQ subjects for a long, long time, trying to decide what to make of them. I'm coming to the conclusion that the destination I will arrive at eventually is to honestly look up to these souls as people who carry some of the heaviest burdens of all and wrestle with some of the biggest battles life has to offer, while not agreeing with the easy answers most seem to come to. I think it's hard to do both at the same time, our current culture seems to discourage that, and many don't seem to feel respected if you disagree with their conclusions. But yet it certainly seems to me to be the highest and best place to be and the place the road I'm on seems to be leading to.

Wow. You are so kind. I have such a différent take on the subject. I think these people were never taught self control and they put their sexual desires over everything else. Or, to keep sinning in sexual immorality. We all have free will.

@@avalerie4467 I understand what you're saying. What I'm saying, though, is imagine if the issue you had to wrestle with was wrapped around your very identity as a person, and not just some relatively peripheral habit. Or if it basically rendered you completely infertile and cut you off entirely from the normal flow of life. This isn't a drinking problem or anger management issue. These cut to the core of a person's existence. This is why I say these are some of the heaviest burdens a person can bear, and why I think I'll end up looking up to those who fight and win the battle. This is heavy stuff.

Therefore we must begin to define "free-will" in all its relationships. Typically its the obviation of "choice" that begins it. (the results, based on the anticipation of the ramifications of the choice) Meaning the fulfillment of a decision based on choice of stimulus. Is an animal free to roam anywhere and eat what it chooses? Is that free-will, or not will? what's the difference? One could say animals have free will based on this obviating choice. I pose that self-awareness and free-will are not the same neither are they extensions of the other. As you said Adam had free-will before he became self-aware... However He now became aware of his choices within his own conscious, he could "reflect" on the choice more than obviate the choice.. He always had free-will to make choices, therefore free-will has nothing to do with self-awareness!@@johnny12022

What is it to be a man and a woman Who had a father and a grandfather in many uncles and many older cousins what it is to be a man as an observer who was surrounded by men all of her life as role models teachers The men in my family were protectors They were patient and sensitive and answering all Questions and when I was a child I had a million questions how come the flowers are different colors how come we have different fruits how come there's so many different smells how come I would ask my father continuously my father said since the day I started speaking my first words were how come I wanted answers I find myself still asking how come And I find wise men like Rabbi Friedman The magnificent a strong Ethics and moral character high-fiber to look up to to believe in to gain understanding and wisdom from to be able to rest and close your eyes and know that you are safe what is a man a man is Strengths and the house of a home is ability to work and to guide and to love and to devote himself to God putting one foot forward To becoming better version of himself every single day to be the best father the best husband possible to walk away at times of frustration but yet to be soft gentle and understanding to their children when they are little but be wise enough to teach them the meaning of no to teach them discipline so they have guides that will help them out for the rest of their lives so they can be a good student to be the best that they can possibly be to have the best possible life. That is what a man is to me. Not just a joke. But a man to be admired for his daughters to look up to to sons to have a hero to want to be like for their parents to be taken care of by their good sons of a man or the explorers the adventurers the kings of their homes to provide all that is needed for a mother's love cannot proviy the everlasting wisdom of father But you never want to disappoint So discipline is rare The given swiftly when necessary to teach and curved the animal intentions within all children so they can grow up to be a human being separate from the beast and wild

I'll agree though with a few qualifications. You're hearing a minority, albeit in the public domain, and attributing it to all of us. Some people talk and it's all about I. Not me or myself which are more subordinate references to the self. Have noticed too with much saying "my" in places it's not appropriate. It wasn't like this previously. Part of our devolving towards a country in absolute and utter confusion and chaos. All the easier to control, their ultimate goal. That's why these videos are so important. Get us away from the me monster or more accurately the I monster.

A development of proper self-respect is the answer to 'ego'. One should not be a doormat to others in supposed 'humility', which in reality is an expression of a "lack of self-respect". The Almighty's relationship to creation is that of a "father", not of a "mother".

Sorry Rabbi Friedmann, I have to desagree with you on this one. What makes a woman a woman is not her uterous, since there are instances that some women are born without uterous as a birth anomoly. What makes a woman a woman is her XX chromosomes. There's absolutely no woman that is born with something different than XX chromosomes. Now this is 100% true, something impossible to be otherwise.

The problem is, a young child does not know what it means to be either a man or a woman in all its ramifications. He is a child and lacks experience. The child may sense, on a very deep level that he is meant to be a man, and she is meant to be a woman. However, because the child is innocent, he is all too easily influenced by teachers and other people in his life, and if he is hearing from them that he should change his sex, he far too often comes to believe it.; That is when public schools - far too often - step in to administer puberty blockers, and convince that child that he, or she, should have sex change surgery. This surgery is not reversible, and the effects of the puberty blockers may not be reversible, either.

Oh a child thinks that far ahead to being sn adult? I think not. Children are not as confused as adults are who add to their questions by not understanding things ourselves. We can't guide our children I've we don't get it. And if we're willing to let any outsiders direct us as if they know better. Want to know how many people who got reassignment surgery are still uncomfortable in their bodies? Or now they're also mutilated. Surgery doesn't help a psychological.issue, it exascerberates it. We can't guide our children if we're confused. Yes the government is trying to take thise decisions out of our hands. All meant to destroy that which we know to be true. All the better to control totally.

This confusion is absurd , why is it only the human that has confusion ? Every other living organism knows their natural role , imagine if the birds , trees and bees were confused , life would not cycle , positive and negative , pollinating the flower is essential how has this become a topic of confusion , natural polarity is key , other wise it's going against the grain , A psychological dysfunction a mutant so to speak , A basis of sexual pleasures and desire that has convinced the pyche of normality , a mind that does not understand true form and being , I am a male and I love my male counterparts , but ! I do not want to have sexual encounters with them for a quick orgasmic fix ! You can hide behind your excuses all you like ! Oh but I love him or her , but the foundations of the natural order are set ! Procreation is what keeps the cycle , with out it life does not exist ! Those who are lost I feel sad and sorry , you have missed the "boat" you have not enlightend yourself on what being and life is , you have not taken notice of your world , you have been blinded .

@@AdamDylanMajor ok, so I looked up the Ohr HaChaim you quoted and I don't understand it completely. However, the gist of it does not seem to be saying he had a "female soul". His words are מעלמא דנוקבא which I believe refers to a different spiritual level than his contrasted עולם העליון, which just means the "upper world". The Ohr HaChaim is known for throwing in deep kabalistic concepts as being common knowledge, so much of the time, it's misunderstood what he means. However, I think there is little basis to say he's talking about a "female soul" as the Rabbi here is talking about. Whatever the Ohr HaChaim IS talking about is clearly an exception that ONLY applies to Isaac, as it is a qualification for him being used in the akeidah. In short, context is everything. G-d doesn't put female souls in male bodies, and Isaac was CLEARLY identified as male.
