Cholesterol goes up when you have inflammation. It goes out to do repair work on blood vessels. Also, the more cholesterol we take in , the less our body produces. Check out Dr. Berg on cholesterol. Getting that HDL up is probably the most important thing. Keeping sugary foods and refined carbs out of diet and keeping stress low and getting good sleep and exerciae are very important.
@TB1M15 жыл бұрын
Notice how all the subfractions worsend against baseline... Cholesterol increased, bad cholesterol increased, TC/HDL ratio increased. Expect these results with keto.
@TB1M15 жыл бұрын
Yeah. But be careful increasing HDL is not of much use if TC/HDL ratio increases. What you refer to is saturation of cholesterol. if you eat either animal protein or saturated fat your cholesterol will increase up to a point. Then it becomes saturated and won't increase much.

I'm a 61yr old male. Been on keto for 2 months now. Lost about 18lbs while not going hungry at all. Eating good foods with high fat and staying satiated sometimes over 24hrs. This makes fasting easy. I am no longer sluggish and can do without naps during the day. Keto really works, IF, you don't cheat. Sometimes I feel like I'm 30 something. This is only two months in.

I'm about to turn 63, and been on Keto since April 2019. Lost 25 lbs, down to 157 lbs (5'-10") and health is better. No more GERD, no coughing, no sniffles that have plagued me forever. But, not much energy. I've also craved sugar since I started, and that craving has never left me. Finally had a cheat day on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a week ago on my wife's birthday. Looking forward to a Valentines cheat day as well. I figure once per month should be OK, and I certainly feel no ill effects from them, other than headache from sugar withdrawal. Anyway, just wondering if my age is cause of low energy, or maybe my Keto diet is low in something? Probably fat. I eat almost no carbs, but probably not enough fat according to the Keto food pyramid. I'll have to work on that...

I suffered for years with hormonal headaches, recently found out it’s when a woman’s Estrogen drops in the latter part of her cycle, Going Keto has diminished those headaches and reduced monthly stomach cramps to virtually nothing. I don’t know if that’s due to an improvement in my hormone levels or the reduction of inflammation in my body. I drifted off keto for a while and the pains came back, so now I’m trying to make keto a lifestyle. How on earth did you manage to be so strict for so long? I’m so impressed

It’s weird how professionals advise against the keto diet for those without a gallbladder but I’ve been keto since April 2019 and I also have no gallbladder and i swear it’s the cure all to digestive issues after cholecystectomies. I eat this way because my body thrives on keto. The 70 pound weight loss was just a bonus 😉 I’ve even upped my carb count to 50 once in a while and sometimes even 80 when I’m feeling like my body needs it. I have not gained or lost weight since doing so.
@lizardfirefighter1105 жыл бұрын
Well here is my story. I started playing around with intermittent fasting and then challenged myself to do a hundred push-ups everyday. I was taking vitamin supplements. I wasn’t really doing strict Keto, I just stopped eating refined sugar, and processed carbohydrates. I was trying to eat a little fruit each day. I had know idea what if anything was happening to my body. I was concerned because a year earlier I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. I stopped taking my AF medication after two months. I just could not put my body through the side effects , FOREVER! Ablation was out because I was told it was only good for there years, and then you could get it again, but that would be the last time. I was 62. Well I did not want to start my 70’s with a half burned heart. There had to be a better way. I notice that my A Fib got better when I exercised. Later I learn that some people have that kind of A Fib- it gets better when you exercise. So anyway I decide to get some comprehensive blood work done, just to see where I was with my vitamin supplements. Well Holy smokes at age 64 my doctor looks at my results, and tells me that my cholesterol ratio is that of an Olympic Athlete, and that all my parameters were very good. Since then I have taken exercise to a higher level with weight training a regular 16 hour fast. Recently I have been experimenting with Wim Hof breathing and cold showers. For the last month I have not been able to detect any A Fib when I take my pulse. After a work out, at rest or in a stressful situation. Strong then weak back to normal then a skip, then back to normal, but no very rapped weak unproductive beats! Like when I first started this odyssey.

Three months later when I had blood work done, my blood sugar was stable in the healthy range, my blood pressure regulated to normal and to my doctors surprise, despite doubling my fat intake, my cholesterol had gone down!! I had also lost over 10kg (22lbs) There can be no doubt that this is the correct diet for human beings, with ketosis our bodies even have a natural way to regulate weight. I can’t help but think that human history took a destructive turn when we started to grow grains and produce processed carbs.

If you are concerned about high cholesterol and keto. PLEASE watch lectures by Ivor Cummings on the topic and get a CAC scan before agreeing to go on any medication. These scans are very affordable. REMEMBER, you are not a child, you can do not have to agree with everything your doctor tells you to do.

What are your ending triglycerides
@Total_Body_Fitness_USA5 жыл бұрын
Cholesterol is not a problem unless it's oxidized. An an exercise physiologist and functional medicine practitioner, I always recommend the following blood tests to check for endothelial inflammation. If there is no inflammation and no oxidative stress then you are most likely free from any cardiovascular disease. 99% of conventional medicine physicians won't check the markers below. I use Quest Diagnostics and Veridia Diagnostics as they are very good labs to order blood tests from. Interleukins 6,10,17A SMC-Endothelin Lp-PLAC2 TNF-Alpha OxLDL MPO Homocysteine HS-CRP Just make sure you are eating quality meats and preparing them properly or cancer may come into the picture decades down the road. Of course everyone dies of something at some point in life so whether it will be related to diet, stress, genetics, overall lifestyle, lack of exercise, and the list goes on - most likely you will never know the exact cause!

The keto diet is not a one size fits all. I did it 4 months with no deviation. No changes in my bloodwork, lost only 6 lbs., & now I'm gluten intolerant. As a strength athlete keto made me weak due to low carb intake & the inability to replace muscle glycogen. It won't work for everyone.

Go to Eric Berg and watch his videos on this. High LDL is a much smaller problem on Keto because the LDL isn't glycated or oxidized.

Your numbers were fine to begin with no big deal, but you gained many other benefits it seems.TSH is your thyroid hormone level.
@snowwhite27095 жыл бұрын
TSH is thyroid stimulating hormone, it reflects if your thyroid is struggling, if it's out of range. It doesn't reflect your t4 or t3 levels.

Awesome👍 You go girl! I know you are not a doctor but I was wondering if you have any suggestions or if you are aware of this happening to anyone else??? I have been on keto since September and I have lost 35 lbs! Go me! But in December I developed diverticulitis and was in the hospital for a day. They put me on antibiotics but still today I keep getting bloat and lower bowel soreness. Any suggestions? I also don’t have a gallbladder too.

whatjenren peterson ...I know your question wasn’t for the public but I thought I would give you my husband’s experience. He has had diverticulitis for years and had flare ups often. We started taking a good probiotic, one that has to be refrigerated. Now, as long as he takes it, he has no flare ups. He takes it every day, sometimes every other day, if he forgets. His doctor said No kind of seeds or nuts at all but he loves sunflower seeds and nuts so he ate them anyway. No problem! We’ve both been taking the probiotic about 20 years. :) By the way, my husband is 61. Oh, and he doesn’t have a gall bladder either.

@@linnewsom2353 I've heard Dr. Berg recommend it to help with digestion so we will absorb the vitamins and minerals from what we eat. Some people seem to do fine without it though. I'm thinking about trying it.

High LDL isn't necessarily bad. Only the small dense LDL is a concern. Large buoyant LDL is a necessary component of the body. Check out the Dr. Ron Krauss interviews to get it from the horse's mouth. His team developed the original formula for calculating ldl, which he now knows to be of little value. New lipid tests break down the ldl by type.

as long as the hdl and the ldl are proportionate to each other, then that is ok. It's not really the numbers, it's the ratio between the two. It also help to have good genetics :) Happy Keto.

The vast majority of heart attack patients have LDL in the normal to low range. Those in the high range have relatively few heart attacks. This is based on 136,000 people who had heart attacks. See for yourself: shapesociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/heartattackwithnormalLDL.jpg
