Having an adjustable bench is definitely a must! I find that if my students sit too low that they tend to "grip" the keys and waste a lot of muscular effort.

They sure do, and of course a few of them have to be reminded to sit up straight every 10 seconds too!

Researching benches and i came across this video which was very helpful thanks. I'm setting up an itching powder manufacturing plant - starting from scratch.

This is great advice. People should also consider if they need a bench that can fit 2 people comfortably.

Thanks for the video! It helped me decide on a stool for playing piano. At the end, I chose the Hercules kb200b.

Awesome, that’s what I have and I’m really happy with it! Wish it had a clip for the legs for transport as i use a bungee rope when gigging but other than that it’s great

It was reassuringly expensive at £153 but the Konig & Meyer 14087 is the bees knees - height adjustment can be made in very small increments as the legs have holes for the locking pins at 10mm / 3/8" centres. It is very sturdy and does not wobble and the legs fold down for storage / transportation.At 9.5 kg it's not light but that indicated to me it's robustness. I'm planning to use it for my world tour in a few years time but i need to get cracking as i'm still at the All Cows Eat Grass level but i.. feel happy that i have a good teacher and i am not trying to self teach from the Hal Leonard books.As a mature adult it is probably the most difficult challenge i have undertaken since i learnt to drive which was 50 years ago now and i was surprised at how nervous i feel when my teacher asks me to play the piece in progress and invariably goes wonky but that's what learning is all about.As someone once said " If only the best birds sang the woods would be very silent "....and yes good posture when playing is very important so thanks to people like yourself who share expertise and knowledge.

This video was so helpful, as I've graduated to more advanced piano technique I've noticed that how I sit and my posture really can hold me back when playing at faster BPM. Having an adjustable bench is a must when taking the piano seriously. I'm currently looking to buy a piano bench and am very interested in your Hercules one since it's the only one I can find that is both foldable and micro adjustable

Yea I’m really happy with mine, I’ve had it years now, use at at home and have carried it about a lot gigging, it’s still held up and really comfy!

@@PianoFromScratch would you mind doing a quick demo/video (whatever works for you) about how it folds and how it adjusts ?
@PianoFromScratch3 жыл бұрын
I can’t do a video on just that but it’s easy to explain, underneath there’s a lever which you pull and slide the legs into a few set positions, then there’s a knob on the side you can turn to make micro adjustments from there

Question: Would a stationary stool, as opposed to one with rollers, be best when using a keyboard? Thanks.
@PianoFromScratch3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a stool with rollers but if you mean like a desk chair which has wheels, then that's not ideal. It's best to be stable
