Was Malcom Bricklin a dreamer with a lack of follow through? Or man who's dream of the safest car hit a recession and quality issues/productions? What do you think?

I’m a Bricklin owner, I have owned them for 35 years. It’s nice to see that you and others are talking about this rare car. I have one of the 137 4spd cars built. My car also appeared in a Calvin Klein commercial if you would like to see it! Nice work with the videos !!!

Bricklin was also involved in the import of the Bertone X1/9 after they divorced themselves from Fiat in 1983. The "Former Fiat" was actually being built by coach builder and Italian design house Bertone, and sales of the X1/9 continued for another 6 years without the Fiat nameplate.

Nope, initially it was powered by the amc 360, and they also used amc hornet drivetrain and suspension, but amc couldn’t keep up with tge demand of the production of their own cars much less supplying Bricklin so they pulled out and that’s when Bricklin asked ford to supply 351 Windsor‘s and c4’s

Nice write up. You're backwards on the engines though... 74s were AMC 360 (avail with auto or 4 speed), and 75/76s were Ford 351W (auto only).

The 74s had AMC 360s at 220 hp, and all of the 75s and 76s had Ford 351 small block Windors at 175 hp. The quality of the cars did improve on the last good 600 cars before the plant was shut down. I had a 74 automatic and love it. Cooler car than a dumb boring Corvette. Any nit-wit can have a Corvette. The weight of the Bricklin was the big enemy of the car, and the Ford engines were underpowered to move nearly 4000 lbs around. 2900 Bricklins were made about 1700 still exist.

How about a story on an electric car that is affordable? The guard rails in the streets could have 12 volts of electricity, not unlike the 3rd rail for an electric train. A spring loaded roller would roll on the 3rd rail to receive electricity.

you have it backwards, they started with the amc360, then went to the 351, because amc could not supply enough engines, the problem was not the empliyment insurance, but was malcome himself. he spent the money on travelling the world and living in his yacht, taking million to pay salaries in the states. he know all th problems with the car and ,decided to spend the money on himself instead of fixing the problems. even to a point where he made workers ship cars out with only 2 lug nuts on the wheels. the problem was melcome not the workers, and they did not get a year of employment insurance for a year with only 10 weeks of work. they only could get 18 weeks at most if you worked a few years at a job. if you worked 6 months and got laid off you could claim 8 to 10 weeks of EI, and you payinto malcome claimed it was the EI and workers fault when in fact it was not.

Ahhh…our lovely unemployment insurance program, lovingly referred to by its beneficiaries as the “10-30” lottery by some of its fans: work 10 weeks, draw unemployment for 30 weeks. A play on the name of our 6-49 government sponsored gambling (uh I meant lottery) scheme.

How about the time the Famous Engineer John Delorean invented a car that ran on cocaine? You only had to give it a little to get it started, after that, it would follow a white line anywhere.
