The free market economy inside Europe is incredible. I am from a country where it is not the case. We in Israel do not have free market economy and do not have the variety and abundance of products in the supermarkets that I found in every store in every corner in Europe. I wish we had that kind of abundance and that kind of prices level, because my country is controlled by a small group of national monopolies that push the prices to the sky while the people starve.

@maksim5078
@maksim5078 8 жыл бұрын
When talking about "racism, sexism, homophobia", people are going to think about "Donald Trump", since that's what they have been told by "New York Times and CNN"... But I would say that these three nouns (racism, sexism, homophobia) apply much better to Saudi Arabia rather than Donald Trump. Indeed, Saudi Women cannot marry Christian Men (so Saudi are racist). Moreover, Saudi Women are not allowed to drive (so Saudi are sexist). Moreover, Saudi Gay are persecuted (so Saudi are homophobic). I wonder why people do not protest in front of the Saudi Embassy instead of protesting against Donald Trump.
@EasyGerman
@EasyGerman 8 жыл бұрын
+maksim5078 what the hell Maksim! Joan talked about a free and tolerant society in general. Not about Trump and not about Saudi Arabia. Now you come and try to turn this into a debate between the West and the East, which is bullshit. Human rights are for the people, everywhere in the world. And people fight for human rights, everywhere in the world, in the US, Saudi Arabia and Europe. At some point we have to stop seeing each other as something substantially different - because we are not. Saudis fight for the same human rights as Europeans or Americans do. Just because some of us have bad leaders doesn't change anything about it.
@maksim5078
@maksim5078 8 жыл бұрын
Easy German Why does Joan talk about a free and tollerant society ? Maybe at present days, is Europe not a "free and tollerant society" ? Is Germany not a "free and tollerant society" ? Is really "racism" the concern of our Society ??? On my opinion, talking about the concern of "racism, sexism and homophobia" makes a sense as talking about the concern of "communism" would make... It is a "fake concern" that is used for a real purpose: colonialism. Our western society is a colonialist society, and they call "multiculturalism" what actually should be given its real name: "colonialism". Oddly enough, people have discovered themselves as people "against racism, sexism and homophobia" as Trump started to run for the elections (and has been elected). The point is that Trump is an Isolationist. And Isolationism is against the Business of Banks and Multinational Corporations. That's the real point ! And that's why press and televisions are against Trump ! They are against Trump in order to defend their Business ! On my opinion, this "fake solidarity", shown by some people, is as fake as an "8 Euros Banknote" would be. Sorry about that... But I wanted to say something against this *HYPOCRISY* .
@fluffyrugg
@fluffyrugg 8 жыл бұрын
Agreed that was a bit of a stretch jumping to Donald Trump. And are you forgetting the fact that Trump has business ties to Saudi Arabia, which was one of the countries he didn't ban. So if the people are protesting against Trump now, I truly believe that will impact the future of their country for the better. Should we not ensure we start at home first? If we welcome everyone no matter where they come from and foster a greater sense of peace and justice, this will surely spread throughout the world. Like above, just because we have bad leaders doesn't mean we can't work towards the end of discrimination as a society.
@maksim5078
@maksim5078 8 жыл бұрын
***** I guess that Trump has more "business ties" to Russia than to Saudi Arabia... But, to be honest, I don't know... So, I could be wrong. The point is that normally nobody cares about anything ! That's an overall Rule. Normally, nobody cares about "racism", "sexism", "homophobia" or what have you... If somebody cares about something (*EXPECIALLY* if "somebody" is "press" or TV) is because of *MONEY* $$$ ! The real concern, is always money and power ! Revolutions are done thanks to money ! Without money, you can't do any Revolution ! So the question is: who pays ??? Who pays for the Revolutions ??? Who pays protesters ???

Switzerland has a ton of agreements with the EU: trade, immigration, etc. So in the end it's like being in the EU but if they do something that the EU doesn't like then they can fuck them up. Also, EU policies affect them and they don't have a voice
@TheSpiritOfTheTimes

@@temperateortropical161 Not how it works at all lol. Switzerland has to cave on everything the EU insists, and it does so. Like Norway, it can afford to do so as it's obscenely rich, but the essence of its political arrangement is that it has to accept EU hegemony, but has no representation within the EU.
@_Anonymous_9
@_Anonymous_9 4 жыл бұрын
The other replies are a bit biased anti-Swiss in my opinion. I live in Switzerland, while they do have to accept many rules, immigration and have no say (and all of this continually comes up in the politics). They do retain control over some areas more. Something I find great is that they aren't part of the common agricultural policy in the EU which is just paying farmers a blanket subsidy per sq km of land or so. Has no connection to how productive the land should be or what its used for (and has simply led to lots of speculation on land without investment in it). In Switzerland the government can choose its own agricultural policies, and they can pay subsidies based on what they want the land used for and if it's productive or not, it's great for promoting wildlife (e.g. nature corridors for insects and birds), and having lived in other EU countries, you can see it's managed better here in that respect.

Yes, of course you know so much more than those people in the video without even having ever talked to them or studied what they study. Frank-Walter Steinmeier was precise in his formulation. Europe should be the place where all the people have equal opportunities (not necessarily equal outcome - all people are free to have their own priorities), where freedom and safety are guaranteed. And it's read from his words that the political structure is quite a secondary thing. I totally agree with that. My personal opinion is that a certain balance should be respected. On the one hand, people should be free to travel and work anywhere they like, see other people's culture, experience different lifestyles, but on the other hand most of the people need a place which they call "home". End each and every culture in Europe needs to be preserved and respected. E. g. when I go to France I want to see "La Belle France", not a crazy artificial mixture of cultures, each of them having equal priority. And when I'm in Greece, I want to see that I'm in Greece, not in Spain. In this aspect the proposed total unification can bring substantial harm and each of European cultures is going to suffer in this case. Old people will miss the Swiss anecdotes about French, British anecdotes about Scots and so on and so forth. Younger generation will probably feel less uncomfortable - just like now the young generation doesn't mind to eat plastic instead of proper cheese, for example.

The European Parliament, much like any other government in the EU, is a representative democracy. This is a form of government in which the people vote for representatives (hence the name 'representative democracy') to speak on their behalf in parliament - i.e. each and every European Citizen had, has and will have a voice in the EU as guaranteed by various constitutions. There is no use in comparing the EU to the USSR, these two are fundamentally different.

Please forgive me for giving a comment on the substance though, the one from the standpoint of someone who had the taste of living in a closely controlled society. Why can’t I help feeling there is something fishy about this sort of ‘ free exchange of ideas’? Is it not because it shows an uncanny resemblance to the kind of free speech we used to have down here in the days of the USSR? And in one aspect at least it seems to be even more sinister, namely in the way educated folks of the West assuming this self-censorship as it were voluntarily, by going on and on with the same globalist mantra and by chasing away any one with even moderately dissenting voice. The soviet empire was also built on those same half-baked, and imposed from the top down, principles of this phony kind of unity that was condescending towards local cultures. And look where it is all now, - Russians at war with their own culturally closest neighbors, Ukrainians. How naïve I was in believing that brainwashing was a Soviet invention. Looks like democracy is getting its turn too. But never mind all that, - lets enjoy Easy German channel and thank you to all involved.
