Every Friday new video. And often extra videos!!
What kind of horses are this? KVTH
Learn about:
English: Royal Association "The DutchDraft horse and
The Haflinger", abbreviated K.V.T.H.
Dutch: Koninklijke Vereniging "Het Nederlandse
Trekpaard en De Haflinger", afgekort K.V.T.H.
Position the horse so that the
jury can see 4 legs.
The mane braid is a traditional way to show the horse to
the jury. The rope that is left is on the back. This is to
disguise the back of the draft horse.
If the head gets too high, the horse
pushes its back away.
In the past, the tail root of a draft horse was docked. For
traditional reasons, and because the tail got in the way of
the work that the horses did.
Now it is no longer allowed.
Only older horses still have a docked tail.
You will see the horses Saly fan 'e Goëngamieden, the Friesian horse Kroon
mare (Tsjalle x Andries)
and the haflingers: Röschen (Liz. Novembernebel)
Strüdel van Frankenastate (Liz. Sterngold)
Also Draft horses from: / hengstenhouderijlammer...

Thank you for letting us know that docking the Dutch draft horses tails is no longer allowed. They need their tails to keep the bugs away. Ive also learned a lot about how the horses are judged. I've been to horse judging events in the past and thought they were judged strictly by appearance,. Thank you for explaining that. ❤

Due to an injury as a foal, a horse at my friends' barn had a stump tail. We collected tail hair for 3 weeks, then braided it into what the gelding had left. He loves his new multi-colored fly swatting tail

A friend of mine did a similar thing with one of her therapy horses. She got a Welsh Cob from a rescue group and the owner docked its tail. With collected hair, they braided in the extensions. Milton is a flea bit grey with a very, very colorful tale and he KNOWS he's cool!

I used to show my part Arabian chestnut mare, she always got 1st or 2nd in led in, I used to have to run as fast as I could to keep up with her beautifully extended trot, Arabians look like they're floating along. She was usually too frisky for riding events, I only got called in a few times but never got a ribbon. I have fallen in love with Friesians since watching your fantastic channel, their natural gate is astounding and they're so beautiful ❣️

@@janicef1280 Wikipedia says it is illegal in many European countries although Great Britain allows certain exceptions. I'm from the US and wish they would ban it here, although the article said some states have or at least have restrictions. 40 years ago my sister and I knew we were getting a poodle puppy from a friend's litter and we told him we didn't want the tail docked. For the next 15 years people asked what breed she was and we'd answer "a Poodle with a long tail". It was curled at the end but not up over her back. We just would get her clipped in a puppy cut and we left the tail fur long and it looked really pretty. I never knew they docked the horses tails. I always thought they just trimmed the hair short. Also glad they stopped. Must be terrible with insects. One woman braided hay net twine in until her horse's grew back. LOL.

All that beautiful, powerful horseflesh. I am in love in the drafts. They have been the best companions and helpmates for thousands of years. One of God's greatest gifts to mankind. Docking of tails is no longer necessary and forbidden because the true need to protect the horse's rear anatomy no longer exists with modern machinery taking the place of drafts. Drafts are no longer the power necessary in the farm fields, logging the forests, working the mines, pulling the river barges and for transportation. Their tails were at great risk for injury or even being ripped from their spines if caught up in harness or work rigging. People today really need to their research before diving into generalized negative commenting. Learn both sides of an issue. Their is no evidence that the drafts in this video have been treated inhumanely and are not currently receiving top of the line care every day.

@@rinavonperl1980 So interesting to watch these amazing horses. My grandmother drove a logging team (in the mountains of New Mexico) during the war while my grandfather was away. She was maybe 5'5" tall, so looked quite diminutive next to these gentle giants--but she was always the boss. I got a lot of my love of horses from her, I think--she always insisted that the way to have the horses best serve us, was to serve them in the best way possible by giving them breaks, lots of clean water and good pasture. I think in the old days many people treated horses as simply a tool to get a job done, but she always felt they deserved respect and to be treated as well as we treat our own families. I miss my grandmother.
