This is awesome Evan! I am fairly new to the knife hobby and found this video very informative. I’ve been watching your videos for a while, but just subbed.

Great video. I think alot of people (especially newcomers) could benefit from knowing different blade grinds and edges. Like what is a flat, saber, hollow, compound, and zero grind. As well as micro serrations, bevel/secondary bevels, etc. I see alot of questions on the web about that.

Lou Bricity is a hitman in the mafia. For knives you want lubrication.

I blought some KP{L heavy and it would not come out,. I squeezed hard and the lid - the white plastic thing that the dropper needle i mounted in popped out and I lost a fair bit of oil. I used a piece of a steel guitar string as a pricker and cleared the tube and it flowed better. I can only assume that the heavy can dry out if it has been on the shelf a while and there is a drop in the tube. It's OK now but something to watch out for, If it doesn't seem to flow then try clearing the tube,

I just have a bottle of sewing machine oil I’ve been using that seems like it’ll last forever I use on all my knives. When that runs out maybe I’ll try some gunny glide or kpl!
@tacklecentralfishing10512 жыл бұрын
Kpl is run by a complete tool. He sent a cease and desist letter to Scott Gunn about the bottle design. But everyone uses that bottle design. You can go on ebay and buy that bottle in bulk. He (kpl) tried to ruin Scott's livelihood because he can't accept that gunny's products are far superior.

Informative always wondered what the different viscosities were best suited for. What about food safe oils? I cut lunch and snacks most days.

That’s a good question, I know a lot of people use mineral oil in that application!
@joek99622 жыл бұрын
You may consider Camellia oil, which is a plant based oil. It's common in preventing rust and patina in high carbon chef knives. Marketed as Tsubaki Oil by one popular Japanese brand. It should work fine in folding knives as well.

I haven't tried Gunny Glide yet, but I've been liking everything I hear,and see about it online. Soo I guess next time I'm on the REC website I should throw a bottle in the cart so it's there when I pick up my next knife. Hopefully some McNees 3.5 MAC2s soon 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

My guy. This is low key master class level stuff. You must have a background (or foreground) in chem or tribology or something. Come clean yo. Lol. But seriously though, I would love to see some more in-depth, possibly overly detailed, videos on this subject. Some isolated property testing would be epic. Us stem and knife combo guys get off on this kind of stuff.

My favorite is a product called Shank Shield from Extant Labs. It lubricates as well as Nano at less than half the price per volume. However, as near as I can tell, they're not they're making it anymore. In fact, I'm not sure Extant Labs is still in business. A damn shame.

So kpl heavy is so magical it changes form from a 75wt oil static to a lighter wt oil in motion…if I recall correctly that’s what snake oil is made from also. Stop the marketing crap and just make a real recommendation
@TheStabbyCyclist2 жыл бұрын
I'll preface this by saying that I appreciate that you guys are trying to educate your customers, but... Applying lubricant to the pivot as shown with the Benchmades the video (i.e. fully assembled) is a bad idea. Most people are going to end up applying too much lubricant as it is. With a knife assembled they're going to end up with most of it on the lock surfaces. Lubricant on the lock surfaces can be detrimental to performance. The application of the KPL Heavy at approx 3:31 is a great example of far too much lubricant. Most of that is going to slide right off onto the lock surface, and most of it is going to be wasted. Consider how small the contact area between the detent and the blade really is. Again, that's a lot of wasted KPL Heavy. An important point that was left out in the video (advertisement) is that knife lube is merely one facet of knife care. Proper driver and high-quality bits are critical. As is having a tidy workspace and cleaning supplies. Not to mention knowing how to properly apply threadlocker.

Thanks for adding your input! More knife care facets will be covered in the future. It’s always good to hear other peoples opinions.
