I had to pause at 6:16 when he said that there aren't any fluent speakers of his language anymore. I knew this happened a lot with indigenous people in America. But hearing a native speaker actually say it broke my heart. I hope more people can learn it.

Culturally it wasn't written down, then you know the whole intentional/unintentional genocide thing. I grew up in a "civilized" tribe area so some of the buildings and streets had Ojibwe names.
@barrettdecutler8979
@barrettdecutler8979 2 жыл бұрын
He said no one is fluent in it, so he is probably not a native speaker. I'm guessing he learned it from his ancestors or maybe tribal records. Some people are trying to being back "dead languages" that no longer have native speakers. Sadly, many Native American languages no longer have native or fluent speakers, sometimes just teachers and researchers who have learned parts of thr language.

@@jonathanphillips5794 I agree with you partially. I just don't think that he simply has more general culture because he is a translator by occupation, I do think however that people should care more about learning and having knowledge regarding the fact that there are some people who simply don't care about these kinds of things. It's so amazing when a foreigner knows about your culture or when you speak with a foreigner about their culture. It really creates an instant relation.

Not really. The guy thought Flemish and Dutch are two separate languages. He also assumed that a Native American language sounds Middle Eastern. Also not sure what that’s supposed to mean since most middle eastern languages aren’t even remotely related to each other.

@sdf6508

@@CoachChaoZIt is the same language. Flemish is not a language, it’s the name of the accent of Dutch spoken in Belgium. It’s essentially the common name of Belgian-Dutch. Saying that they are two separate languages would be like saying that American-English and British-English are two different languages.

@suushiiio
@suushiiio 11 ай бұрын
@@kuroichan101 Most likely yes. The more modern Mongolian thats spoken in the video’s a lot more similar to Russian id say, as mongolian’s usually written in Cyrillic letters nowadays. But the older mongolian’s very similar to some other east asian languages like Japanese, Korean, Chinese(maybe, i dont know very much abt the language). It also goes as Ka, ki, ku, etcetc. There arent many lone letters. Its also read from up to down. Im not really good at it(the older mongolian language i mean), but i do plan to get better at some point, so my info might be a bit untrue, but id say its pretty accurate.

Urdu is an Indian language. Out of 22 scheduled languages of India. Besides Urdu was born in Delhi, India called "Zaban-e-Hindvi" initially, later becoming the lingua franca of the subcontinent, along with its earlier form Hindi or "Khadi Boli". Hindi uses more Sanskrit words whereas Urdu more perso-arabic but the difference is subtle and words can be used interchangeable. Notably Urdu/Hindi are together called "Hindustani", lingua franca of Northern India and Pakistan.

I was offended by the so-called "Hebrew speaker". She obviously doesn't speak the language. What she said to the man at the end translates into "I love you are" (feminine, singular) which makes absolutely no sense. The guy speaking "Russian" was downright disrespectful. Butchering other people's languages is not cool.

That Flemish and Dutch was fun! I immediately know when there is a language that I can’t pinpoint to a country only to a family of languages like the Balkan, Slavic, African or specific south east Asia region. You must have a really good ear to distinguish like French, Quebec French or other creole French from Africa for instance. I know I can’t set Romanian, Estonian, Latvian, Hungarian or Ukrainian apart and the difference between all the Arabic versions is also difficult

Please do not let the wanderful Cheyenne language die! And by the way, teaching a language in classes is not the way to preserve it. Do not put your language-revitalization hope on that, it just doesn't work that way. Only meaningful real-life communication with native speakers can do the trick, plus the "learner" has to be a child. Therefore, since almost all of the native speakers of Cheyenne are elders, I'd humbly recommend to every Cheyenne person who doesn't speak the language him- or herself let their child/children stay with their grandmums and granddads as mush as possible and at the younger age possible (ideally, there should be kindergardens with native staff and strict "no English there" rule). In case parents can speak Cheyenne themselves - bingo! Just talk full-time Cheyenne with your child at home, no English whatsoever. That'll do the magic. And ONLY that. Look at the hot Flemmish girl from the video - she can perfectly speak both languages of her parents just out of home talks. Cheyennes and all other Native Americans should do exactly the same. Remember, Elders are going away, and there won't be any second try... Please, don't get offended if I've said something rude. English is not my mother tongue, and I just really care about Native American languages, especially of the Great Plains region. Best regards from Russia.
