The people who hired her in the first place should held accountable, this goes deeper than just one bad decision.

I mean when you go that route you inherently hobble any hinest selection process because people are cowardly and skittish for good reason. Cowards live to fight another day. Im a much bigger fan of managing and nudging the cowards when and where necessary and holding the most directly responsibly party... responsible. And you are placing an impossible task on selectors. People make mistakes and the infinite breadth of human experience and possible events is so broad that one cannot even 'unreasonably' be held responsible for unforeseeable eventualities.

3 of the people I work with at my firm went to Harvard I asked them about their opinion on this matter and all 3 of them said the same thing. 1 kid in their graduating class got caught plagiarizing (which was ultimately a misunderstanding because he forgot to attach his sited sources page) but regardless he was expelled no ifs, ands or buts. That is a reputable school known as one of the most prestigious universities in the entire world, I find it rather embarrassing a school of such high honor holds their students to a higher standard than the staff, including the president of the university herself. As far as I’m concerned this says a whole lot about Harvard as a university. Ironically, the University of Pennsylvania fired Liz Magill for similar reasons and I assure you that is a far less reprehensible university than Harvard.

@@KTravRuNEr it’s a good question, in my opinion there’s certainly a chance they could win that suit but at the same time there is a good possibility Harvard could claim my coworker’s classmate’s was for academic credit and if his case was heard how many others could claim the same and so on. But regardless in my opinion this is a huge permanent stain on the reputation of a school I once held in such high regard, especially because of how the university backed her for all this time and still was refusing to fire her before she offered her resignation.

Accused but sounds like a character assassination because all these papers were published or reviewed. I hear terms like "almost" verbatim. Verbatim is verbatim, in math 1+2=3 not 1+2 and like almost 3. They used terms nearly, mostly, and other words. I ended looking at actual article source from the Washington Free Beacon, a conservative online journal, and the parts claiming to be plagiarized in three of them are using a definition. If I can't go in Webster Dictionary and write plagiarized is described as such and such then what is the point of referring to the definition. They claiming this plagiarism will dumb down the institution of education. The system is already dumb down. Look at the source yourself, use your own mind, and discuss after. Not a bunch of "professionals" have referred facts and assume what the media says is actual factual because the art of journalism is basically a fancy version of copy paste with new words and few facts.

Why did she get pressure to leave because she refused to stop anti semitism on Campus, she also had over 50 instances of not giving credit to people she used ideas, or entire paragraphs from. Now Matt Eagan over at CNN apparently has no idea that doing what Gay did was the literal definition of plagiarism. Plagiarism: the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own. If you don't credit the source you are giving the reader the impression that the idea or words are yours there by taking the credit for it. Once is an accident 50 times is either you lack the education or you are doing it deliberately. Either one should disqualify you from being a Dean of a college or a professor for that matter.

Given the prestigious reputation of Harvard, they would have done their due diligence on her academic integrity. Something that was emphasized to me as early as Middle School. Hammered home in college. In my doctoral program, emphasized how it can destroy careers years down the road. In general, it was always consistent in it's necessity in citation (albeit more stringent the higher you go). Either Harvard was negligent in it's duty or intentionally overlooked it...

The smile of her face when she responded in the public hearing said it all. She was not concerned for the Jews. She also took no accountability for the many examples of her plagiarism. This is not someone who should be president of a school that teaches a wide range of students and purports to hold high academic standards. Keeping her as a professor shows that Harvard is now a joke. They toss students for the slightest infraction of plagiarism yet she gets to keep a job as a teacher? That's problematic.

I'm pro-diversity and pro-social justice and even I am appalled at the way the Jewish community has been subjected to double standards and failed by activist circles. This is even aside from the plagiarism allegations and the fact she dragged her heels on apologizing.
