I really need wide lens. 10-24mm would be nice. Especially because I have a cropped sensor so I have to multiply with 1.6x to get my real focal distance.

Excellent primer! I happen to have chosen wisely, based on a fair amount of luck. I have all Canon lenses including the “Nifty -50”, the “Pancake”, and the 55-250mm. I am pleased with all three choices, but also find the Canon 18-55mm Kit lens to be a good "grab and go" general use lens. Carry on with the clear, concise, and well thought-out advice!

I have the Canon 70D with the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 and the 50mm f1.8 STM. I recently bought the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 because I was struggling in a concert building. There wasn't much light, but it was a paid photoshoot, so I needed that extra stop of light. My next lens is going to be the Canon 85mm f1.8. I really like portrait photography and this lens gives me exactly what I want. Thanks for the video Paul!!!

I had the canon 50mm f1.4, but chucked it in and got the 1.8, no real difference in Image quality, I have the canon 24-70 f2.8 great lens, and the 70-200 f2.8, excellent as well, but at f2.8 the 50mm and my 35mm blow the zooms out of the water, the 300 I use for wildlife with 1.4 and 2x extenders but I did take a few shots at a wedding, not one I was shooting of course, and to be honest it was awesome, but you have to be miles away, I love your channel you make everything so easy to follow, I use canon cameras 20d to 1dx, but have a Nikon 3200 with the 70-200 f2.8 as well, bought second hand for 800 pound

I love taking macro or just close up subjects but being on a tight budget I went with the Nikon 40mm the biggest problem is if taking images of insects like bees on a flower the lens has to be very close to the bee and this can cause it to fly away. I have some close-up images on a stock agency site that sell very well using this lens.

The focal length of a lens is a physical quality of a lens like the weight or physical size! The focal length doesn't change when you detach the lens from the camera and put it in your bag. 50mm is 50mm is 50mm The optical effect will change with different sensor sizes..

Very good video. Extremely instructive. However, I'm very surprised that you didn't mention the Tokina 100mm f2.8 macro lens. In my opinion (and, judging by the many reviews on You Tube, in the opinion of many others) this lens is superior in terms of build quality, is extremely sharp, and incredible value at around £270 brand new. I would recommend this lens for anyone who wants to get Macro lens.

Great video. I’ve been into photography a couple of years because I travel with my job. I’ve a canon 720sx compact when I’m travelling light but when I have space I take my second hand canon 760D. Again I mostly take scenery and architecture shots travelling so I bought the 24mm as it takes up no space. I I take my 55/250 the 24mm goes in my pocket. But what I discovered is it’s a great lens for the kids to play with the camera. They love it. Point and shoot. But my wife pointed out portrait of her and the kids look a bit harsh on the 24mm and not as good as on my other 55/250 lens zoomed out to 55mm. So you convince me. I’m buying the 55 f1.8. You see them about £60 second hand and if my wife if happy with her pictures then maybe I get the pink pass to buy the 10/18 you talked about. I bought the 24mm hoping I could take architectural pictures but on the cropped sensor I often can’t get far enough back. What would be great is if you set a challenge for the kids. Maybe under 16 to let them play on dads camera. I’m finding getting the whole family involved on a day shooting pictures really makes for a great day. I’m going to check out that monopod you mentioned too. My youngest daughter struggled with the telephoto and this might be just what she needs.
