I really need wide lens. 10-24mm would be nice. Especially because I have a cropped sensor so I have to multiply with 1.6x to get my real focal distance.

Excellent primer! I happen to have chosen wisely, based on a fair amount of luck. I have all Canon lenses including the “Nifty -50”, the “Pancake”, and the 55-250mm. I am pleased with all three choices, but also find the Canon 18-55mm Kit lens to be a good "grab and go" general use lens. Carry on with the clear, concise, and well thought-out advice!

The focal length of a lens is a physical quality of a lens like the weight or physical size! The focal length doesn't change when you detach the lens from the camera and put it in your bag. 50mm is 50mm is 50mm The optical effect will change with different sensor sizes..

I love taking macro or just close up subjects but being on a tight budget I went with the Nikon 40mm the biggest problem is if taking images of insects like bees on a flower the lens has to be very close to the bee and this can cause it to fly away. And wanting to clarify, if using a crop sensor camera both the focal length and widest F Stop need to be multiplied by the crop factor in order to know the actual focal length and F Stop. Am I correct? And, the crop factor math is needed even if using a lens made for cropped sensor cameras. Am I correct? Thank you in advance for clarification by an expert and talented instructor 🙏🏼

Great video. I’ve been into photography a couple of years because I travel with my job. I’ve a canon 720sx compact when I’m travelling light but when I have space I take my second hand canon 760D. Again I mostly take scenery and architecture shots travelling so I bought the 24mm as it takes up no space. I I take my 55/250 the 24mm goes in my pocket. But what I discovered is it’s a great lens for the kids to play with the camera. They love it. Point and shoot. But my wife pointed out portrait of her and the kids look a bit harsh on the 24mm and not as good as on my other 55/250 lens zoomed out to 55mm. So you convince me. I’m buying the 55 f1.8. You see them about £60 second hand and if my wife if happy with her pictures then maybe I get the pink pass to buy the 10/18 you talked about. I bought the 24mm hoping I could take architectural pictures but on the cropped sensor I often can’t get far enough back. What would be great is if you set a challenge for the kids. Maybe under 16 to let them play on dads camera. I’m finding getting the whole family involved on a day shooting pictures really makes for a great day. I’m going to check out that monopod you mentioned too. My youngest daughter struggled with the telephoto and this might be just what she needs.

Hey Paul. After watching the filters video, I've gone back and watched a couple of your lenses videos. Looking for a more specialized recommendation: I've signed up for a Milky Way photography course occurring in Sept. in Maine (I'm in Seattle, WA). For my D3500 they are recommending a Tokina F2.8, either 11-16 or 11-20. I'd like to have this lens as usable as possible for photography besides astrophotography. From your perspective, is there any usable difference of the 11-20 vs 11-16? Second: Is there another astrophotography lens you'd otherwise recommend? The price is a balancing act since my wife and I are making this our big trip of the year and between course tuition and other travel we may spend $12K+ (yes, unfortunately those are US dollars so it may be this means next year's vacation is driving 2 hours to the coast and sleeping on the beach) so I don't want to spend a lot more money, but I want to invest enough in a quality lens that I am not looking for "bigger and better" in a couple years. Thanks for any guidance you can give! Love your videos!! Best, Steve

Hello there! Is there some strange relationship between the lenses used on DSLR cameras, and those used on conventional SLR cameras? As a relatively newcomer to DSLR, I've noticed that say, a 300mm lens on a conventional camera seems to "get closer" than the equivalently marked lens on my DSLR. For example, at 300mm, the moon almost entirely fills the frame on my conventional SLR, whereas on my DSLR, the moon appears considerably smaller in the frame. Have I missed a trick somewhere? Another question which would be interesting answer, is this; are any lenses interchangeable between SLR and DSLR? - For instance, I have accumulated over the years a decent collection of Pentax 'K' mount lenses for my film camera, could any be used on a Pentax DSLR? Or vice versa? Lenses seem to be a bit confusing at times, and I'm only a pottering amateur!

Do you think it will be a good buy or I should just get the kit with the 15-45mm? If I was you I would seriously try the 10-18mm canon lens because it is a wide angle lens so you will get a lot more of the landscape you are shooting, it’s a great lens for architecture and landscape photography. Hope this helps you 🙏👍😀

9:28 Maybe this is a dumb question, but why use a 70-200 telephoto lens for such a shot of the girl? Wouldn't you switch to a different focal length? Unless the photographer is standing far? Same question for the shot at 8:28 .. Unless there are benefits to doing such shots with a telephoto?

great vlog , nos i know what a pancake lens is lol , ive got the canon 200D , it came as a kit , with 18-55mm lens & a 50mm , but i don't use the 50mm , is it actually better than using a 18-55mm lens ?
@photogenius5 жыл бұрын
The 50mm has a larger aperture (low f number) so will be better in low light than the 18-55mm and better at giving you a blurry background. Watch this video for more info : kzbin.info/www/bejne/sF67i6SCfNpsfs0 Thanks for watching and supporting my channel.

Hi, I assume that, all these lenses you have recommended here are, crop-sensor lenses? Also which one you recommend for street photography. (I am a beginner). This video is great, can you please do a KZbin video for selecting an external flash for crop sensor camera. Thank you!
