Sparta had one of the most respected and fiercest fighting forces of their era. Daily life in ancient Sparta supported the military machine to the point where all other aspects of life revolved around it. From the time a Spartan was born to their death, they served the state and its armed forces. Spartans had to be perfect, both in society and on the battlefield. Their civilization worked as a military unit, preparing both men and women to be their best for whatever challenges they faced.

I believe if Spartans knew the art of not only empowering the physical aspect of a man but the mental aspect not in terms of torment but in terms of appreciation, they could have endured more training due to their conscious wanting to do it for a possitive reason instead of being forced to do it, because they still loved their families so they clearly had emotions, that's the conscious you have to empower to become out of body like a plant for example and work for a purpose.

They were the only thriving nation that did not require walls, insane right? The entire Greek world feared them, Athens sent a letter to them. "If you dont fall under our democracy we will make your woman and children slaves." It was to be a threat, to scare the Spartans. The Spartans sent one word back. "If." Which terrified the Athenians as accounting parties went missing shortly after, Sparta began to move across their own border to kill accounting parties, which mostly consisted of their finest warriors. Spartan hoplites. They usually used spears and heavy shields, bronze armor in combat and would only use swords as a last resort or if they threw their spears.

'28 years old now, I've ran, skated, rock climbed, and currently work in a warehouse. Sometimes however I think back and would wish they did me away in Spartan style. 16 years is more than half my life in crutches and a cast. @Matt Lombardo Herodotus' record is what I meant by romanticized by historian. I am not disputing his record. But that is his record. It is similar to a reporter reviewing North Korea from regimen's point of view. He wrote what he saw. It doesn't mean it's 100% truth or Sparta's society was constantly the way Herodotus wrote. It peaked and fell like a sine curve. The fact was that they had lost to Athens at Battle of Sphacteria and to Boeotians at Battle of Leuctra proved that they didn't fare significantly better than other armies in Greece soldiers. That's proven fact from multiple sources that they were defected. Their abilities on average was better but not significantly better. It was a myth that they were invisible. Romanticized later on by later historians.

i am of spartan stock and all i can say is thank god i wasn't born back then. but i did have an older brother who was caught up in the ancient culture and made me fight/spar with his older friends to 'toughen' me up. by the time i started school the teacher was complaining to my parents that i was hitting everyone and getting into fights all the time. i was a crazy, tempermental kid but thankfully i mellowed out as i got older. geez i remember those days, i would fight at the drop of a hat, by the time i was 8 years old i must have been in 40 fights.....and all i remember are the two i lost.

@@TheMontoya09 wow this is really cool! I don't know if some of my ancestors were Conquistadores, I wish, but there is some probability since my lastname can be found in some american countries. the name also isin't very common and was of lesser nobility, like a landed knight.

I’m reading and hearing many different things about Spartan societal structure. They were a fierce bunch indeed. Honestly they’re shrouded in mystery. In the rise of classical Greece stories were mostly oral. I do know that not all historians agree that they were entirely as harsh as said. They could’ve been. Perikles was known to be the one I guess, to create historical lit. They did have an honor code which was cool. They upheld women in the highest honor as life givers. Even a conformist war breeding society could’ve been easily corrupted from time to time. I would’ve chosen my Spartan cousins nonetheless.🤘🏼
