Doom 2016 and Doom eternal are FPS masterpieces and truly nothing less than works of art. And the music of Mick Gordon is basically fuel to Doom's fire. Incomplete without each other. While Levy and Hulshult did an exceptional job in eternal, it wasn't quite the madness Mick Gordon had.

2016 showed me what I had been missing out on with all these years. Doom is one of the single-most satisfying shooter series that rivals even hand-to-hand fighting games in engagment and catharsis. Dodging projectiles, an arsenal of several guns with unique utility, and struggling against hordes of enemies at a time. Oh, and fantastic music. Classic and modern both.

The game is a masterpiece. The elevator sequence at the beginning really set the tone for how kickass the game was going to be. One thing not mentioned about the music, is how it was engineered to react to gameplay…looping calmer parts of songs until fights break out…then kicking in the adrenaline to match the insanity and speed of the action. Doom is my favorite game franchise of all time. I didn't have the pleasure of playing the original back when it came out, (because I wasn't alive yet) but I've beaten every single game in the franchise. I'm not sure which one I like better: Doom Eternal or Doom 2016. Sometimes I like the grittier but still epic as fuck approach of Doom 2016, and sometimes I like the more lighthearted pure fun and verticality of Doom Eternal. They are at a tie for my favorite game of all time. This franchise will go down in history, and forever I will wear the label of a Doom fan for the rest of my days on this earth.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I feel like what made DOOM 2016 such a big deal can be split into 3 factors: 1. Gameplay - It's fast, it's exhilarating, it's destructive, it's everything that people could want from a DOOM game. 2. Soundtrack - This speaks for itself and needs no explanation. 3. It caters to fans - It's a good introduction to the DOOM games for new players, while also catering to long time fans of DOOM. It feels like a classic DOOM game while being new and fresh enough to adapt to modern games.
@derangedcrouton18642 жыл бұрын
Unpopular opinion: doom 2016 is better than eternal - better modelling and graphics (didnt look like plastic) - environments were intimate you felt like you were a part of them and they were modelled with so much detail in comparison to eternal where you could just go basically anywhere with your traversal tools and it felt small - atmosphere, it felt gritty, real and dark, you could get a sense of the horror that had occured the music doesnt treat you like a ritilin induced adhd kid and instead showed you a story with visuals and sound, the music was quite and ambient it wasnt just loud all the time. - the story, the story was straightforward, you learnt everything at the same pace as your character even though you didn't know who he was, the game kept you in the first person, you felt like you were actually making progress and that what you did mattered as you are TAKEN through the game in a smooth way, show dont tell was definitely utilised to its finest ability and the logic was sound, soldiers didnt show up in hell and you couldnt talk to samual hayden there for example, and exposition was 100% neccisary. In doom eternal you have more of a choice but you the player are dragged into these places following the slayer as if you arent one and the same, the logic makes no sense and its way to cartoony in comparison, less badass even i know thats literally blasphomy - the simplicity of the game design, it doesnt act like a skill based shootemup mlg hardcore game no it acts like an experience, not an arcade style goof fest - it didnt treat you like a 2 year old, from the annoying cartoony visuals and sound effects to the over reliance on exposition and interruptive tutorials, there is no mystery you are just thrust into a story you feel like youve missed out on and just given maykrs and shit. In doom 2016 you have about as much choice as the slayer does which is none in what he has to do so you can relate to him, you also understood as little about the events of the backstory as he does which is why theres a mysterious theme to it you have to learn with him what happened on the mars base, who hayden and pierce are and what cause all of this to happen, youre shown through brief but important holo messages the discussions between hayden and peirce and you learn more and more about them and what their motivations are, that is missing in eternal its just: look there is angel you know her lol, look there is betrayer, he says "when his heart is at rest" whos he? Oh well seems the slayer knows and not me (shouldnt have to read the codex to understant the story literally presented to us) There is a narrator explaining every single thing that youre up to sometimes expecting you to know what youre doing be it vega or samuel hayden and those annoying cutscenes where the game is stopped to show you something happening RIGHT in front of you pisses me off greatly

@@Necr0Mancer666 Last time I checked, no. 2016's campaign might be less grand in scale, but the writing was higher quality and more consistent than Eternal's. For example look at what they did to my man Samuel Hayden, he went from a morally gray antagonist to little more than an exposition dumper. (By the way, did you know that the reason he keeps repeating his infamous quote about the Icon of Sin is because the script hadn't been finalized? Hugo Martin admitted that it wasn't supposed to turn out that way.) The presentation of 2016 makes you feel much more immersed in the world around you, while Eternal actively breaks immersion with stuff like its cartooney pickups and obstacle courses, and of course the silly writing. For something that isn't so subjective, it's indisputable that 2016's multiplayer is a lot more varied, with six game modes and Snapmap while Eternal just has one game mode with Battlemode.

2016 was my introduction to Doom. And the only Doom game to date that I've finished. I don't play it as much right now, and I actually haven't played Eternal yet. I'm trying to go through Doom one more time before heading to Eternal.

I don't play fps games much. Halo is one of the few that I enjoy to play once in a while with my younger brother but Doom 2016 and eternal was just so fun. Even when i'm not good, it's still fun to be strong.

I love them both, but I do prefer the much more realistic look and feel and color palette of 2016. I just started playing it again on the series X and just blown away at how gorgeous everything is. 100% the best reboot ever, and definitely agree that it’s the new generation Doom. Good luck getting it to run on a calculator though. lol. Hope the Doom: Day One actually becomes a thing. Could even utilize some ideas from the original Doom 4 concept.

I played doom 2016 for the first time 2 years after its release in a Steam Sale………. After the first cut scene and the first battle and Samuel Hayden gives his little speech about how it all got out of hand but it was worth it, and the slayer smashes the elevator screen, I was like wtf! This is going to be awesome, I got over 500 hours in 2016, I played it almost exclusively for a year or so, then, well then Eternal dropped its the only game I’ve ever Pre-ordered, I love them both for what they are , and they are both masterpieces.

which one has more exploration segments and which one has a better story in your opinion? (A lot of the reviewers said Eternal had more breathing room that allowed ways to move vertical). But I still the love the horror of Doom 3
@andydbedford2 жыл бұрын
@@ajaxslamgoody9736 Both had a good story, however in 2016 youhad to "search for it, where as in Eternal there is a lot more story telling cut scenes. Game play againis different yet very similar, but you correct eteranal has more verticality, 2016 does too, but eternal is not only more versatile in that department it also has more demons on screen at one time and demand faster responses from the player, in short eternal is similar to 2016 its just more balls to the wall 🤣

Nostalgia made it a big deal. Personally I have way more fun playing the classics with some visual and minor mechanical mods like Beautiful Doom, along with an Xbox gamepad and an aim assist script. But nothing beats Duke Forces. 😁

Im more of a turn based Rpg guy lol, but i played this in 2020. Couldnt put it down, beat it in a few days and it was amazing! Once finished i went to doom eternal and finshed that as well, i prefer 2016 doom honestly but doom eternal was certainly fun and did some cool shit with movement mechanics.

DOOM (2016)was the first game in the franchise I ever played. It was well paced, beautiful, and really had a balanced level of challenge that convinced me to play other games in the series.

It was a good game but for me Doom 3 is the best so far. I liked how it managed to stay just inbetween horror and action shooter. The action is clearly better in Doom 2016 but i miss the suspense and tension from Doom 3

I would very much love a remaster of Doom 3, the clunky controls and guns always turned me off it, and these days, the visuals don't really hold up well enough :(

@@scottmcqueen3964 I replayed it two years ago i thought it held up remarkably well honestly cant think of another game that held up as well from that time.

Doom is one of those rare franchises where every single entry is at bare minimum, good. I love each and every Doom game. They each have their own unique qualities that separate them from other games at the time and the previous entry. Doom 3 is still super fun to play on console. I put it on my Laptop with Xbox GamePass and it plays great. I cannot wait to see the next Doom on current gen finally. No more cross generation titles plz.

I loved 2016 way more, maybe i just lost touch 1-2 years later when i played eternal, but 2016 was way more enjoyable, ive heard that it might be because there was less story in 2016

I loved it but i was bit sad that the story was so short, we got like 3 big boss fights and they where nice but i expected us to fight Dr samuel hayden and either killing him and taking the sword or us taking the sword but being teleported back to hell before we could take him down and then fighting our way back again

They found a fresh "push forward" combat loop that brought the arena shooter back into the AAA spotlight. Considering the generation gap and CoDs influence, someone had to do it.

i am playing it now and enjoying it more thean when i played it back then, DOOM is very focused but if you do the rune challges it can totaly change how you play and give you amazing advantages. there was too much to do and keep in mind in the heat of battle in eternal for me and the absense of Mick Gordon was the final straw, they treated him so badly and after all he had done for the previous game.

Doom 2016 was the perfect way to resurrect a classic, while keeping it both true to the original and fresh with new ideas and mechanics that’d shape the series’s path forward Both 2016 and Eternal have changed the ways I look at gaming forever and I can never thank them enough for that
