There is a lot between Nebraska and Ny where you have plenty of opportunities. It sounds like you're trying to convince yourself that it is worth staying in NY. I lived in a town with a population of 40k but went to school with the kids of Fortune 500 CEOs.

Literally the opposite, I am not at the beginning of my career anymore so it no longer matters. How does it sound like I am trying to convince myself to stay someplace when I made it very clear that I am beyond the point in my career where those opportunities matter? I stated as much in the video! I'm 13 years into building my business, 15 years into building my skill set and network. I said in the video that when you're at my point it really doesn't make sense, but it does make sense to many people when starting out. People seem to hear what they want to hear I guess

I agree, unless you're making a 6 figure salary in NYC, it's nothing but misery to live there. Sure the sheer number of people living there SEEMS TO BE a great opportunity for entrepreneurs, however let's not forget the crazy high rents and lots of competition at the same time. Louis has already made a name for himself at he right time in his industry, he could literally move anywhere in the country and people would still ship their broken equipment to him. Starting the same from scratch in the ever increasing high rents in NYC will probably end in failure nowdays.

That's the blessing and curse of NY. You could run into a potential business partner while grabbing a coffee. Simultaneously you'll have to learn to just live with the fact that every day you don't even realize how hard you've screwed yourself over with missed opportunities. That can drain you honestly, make you grow to accept that lady luck chose to pass you by.

Back in the early 90s. This guy found a job in NYC from the classified section of the newspaper. It was a short simple ad. The guy phoned up about the job and talked with the man who had posted the ad in the newspaper. The guy got the job. it was to manage a warehouse for a start up import business for the man who posted the ad. It turned out to be a great job as the guy taking the job found it easy to manage the warehouse. The job quickly started to earn him a solid six figure income. This information came about from some article I was reading in the WSJ.

Got a job offer…it was a choice between NYC and North Carolina. I visited both, initially thinking I wanted to do NYC. Never been to NC in my life. I changed my mind after that visit, but still wonder about NYC often. My priorities right now are not survival but thriving and healing. I calculated it would take longer to adjust to NYC than NC. The sirens every 10 minutes, the trash on the street, walking everywhere in the summer heat (or blistering cold), and having to figure out the public transportation system while its getting flooded or learning how to use an electric scooter or bike or driving a car in NYC. How to not feel alone surrounded by thousands of people you don’t know. It was a lot. NYC speaks its own language, and it takes a while to learn. Still love it though, a legendary city. Plus weed is legal there.

What you are describing is the essence of NYC and what made the city valuable.. but i fear as remote/hybrid work becomes more permanent, NYC will lose that character, because these events you describe require an “in person and engaged population of nearly 12 million people daily (commuting crowd plus local)”. It was most clear during the pandemic it was as life had left and other cities became more desirable. I mean think about it, if you aren’t out networking and meeting people daily, if you aren’t getting those in person valuable experiences, then NYC’s value tanks

It took the pandemic to get many of these people to move out. But people are already moving back to San Francisco. Rent has quit dropping and it actually starting to go back up. Why pay the high rent prices if most of the amenities they like are closed. The data from the USPS with their change of address requests shows that the majority people moving out of San Francisco are just moving around California. Finding a place to wait out the pandemic. I wonder what the data from the USPS is showing for NYC. Also, I've read that rental prices have also started going back up in NYC. So the emptying most likely has stopped if not reversed. Right now all I see is a lot of haters of NYC people commenting and they've probably haven't lived there much less visited.

COVID took a sledgehammer to all three of those things, hence many people's recalculation on the value of a city. That's James Altucher's take. He said NYC bounced back quick after 9/11 because back then there was no broadband so everybody had to physically show up to the office to get work done. Now with everybody having computers and high speed broadband, the physical presence is no longer necessary for a lot of work and it saves money to not have to buy or lease office space or pay utilities on it.

Some valid points in this video. However, nowadays, population density is only important if your business/service relies on foot traffic into a physical address. The internet has changed opportunities for many people to operate a successful business without the need to pay rent and other associated costs. There will always be business models that do require walk ins. But, for anyone who has had enough of the price gouging by major metropolitan property owners, the ridiculous taxes, or the many other negative factors of trying to maintain an internal city business, there are options. Grandma can make her beautiful warm quilts in rural South Dakota, sell them to customers around the globe, and not have to work 12 - 15 hours every day. It's what you make of it. Not where you're doing it.

Odd, because one of the towns frequently suggested to Louis was Jacksonville FL, which has a way higher crime rate compared to NYC. I mean, if you're going to rail against "Democratic cesspool" citing high crime as the first item on your list, at least do everyone a favor and present an example of a large city "Republican utopia" with less crime.

Areas that risk becoming cesspools generally vote Democratic because of the mess that is seen. People who belief there are no problems in life, outside of government vote Libertarian or Repiblican. One continues to vote for tax cuts when one believes the natural order is as close to perfection as one can obtain.

@@bradhaines3142 there is nothing intrinsic that makes attempts to get things done better when outside of the government. In numerous cases, like with the ACA Marketplace, things do not come together if notvfirvthe government. The Internet is another example. Government is way it came into being. It was not that prior. There was AOL which sucked. Things like national defense is another one and causing standards to happen. You also see niw how garbage the covid response has been and people who actively want to force interaction and get others sick in the name of "freedom". Government is known for coercion. Large cities are mismanaged so badly now with high rent, restrictive taxes, urban blight, and now COVID shutdowns, you really have to fight to survive. Sounds like when Louis was younger this wasn't nearly as bad and I can see why Louis loved it. Medium sized towns are the sweet spot now it seems and local politics do make a difference on economic viability.

You're not an audio engineer if you don't know the difference between 2.5v plug power and 48v phantom power. Phantom power is a microphone that requires 48 volts. Plug power refers to microphones that can be powered by a considerably lower DC voltage, typically 2.5v. These microphones are usuallyu portable mics - lavalier or headworn microphones such as DPA microphones. For instance, you could plug a DPA 4065 into a zoom H1n and it will work, but you cannot plug a Neumann u87 into a zoom H1n because a U87 is not going to be happy with 2.5v! Don't pretend you are an audio engineer or understand audio engineering if you don't understand the distinction between 2.5 and 48!
