I was diagnosed after birthing my son. My renal function is 92% and i intend on keeping it as healthy as possible. I got the trait from my mother and she got it from her mother. I have PKD2. I only drink water!!! Occasionally I may indulge and have some smoothies or fruit drink. But no caffeine, liquor or sugar. I am grateful to be born in a age where medicine and information on PKD is vast! I am 29 diagnosed at 25, my mother found out in her Mid 30s at 35, hence 10 years later than I. This is such a great video! Very informative and all things are very true. All my PKD people we are strong and resilient!

I was diagnosed at age 16 via ultrasound because I suffered regularly with UTI... Then noted I had hypertension of 150/130 ish been on medication since.

My nephrologist doesn’t try to keep my bp < 110. My Dr wants mine less than 149.

Thank you for covering PKD. Can you explain how is it diagnosed? Can you explain if there is a difference between PKD and Simple Cysts in the kidney? I had ultrasound a CT Scan done to look for kidney stones and I was told that I have some cysts in my kidney but I was not told if its PKD or Simple Cysts. Should I be concern? I look forward to you elucidating this. Thank you both.

The form of PKD I have is not PKD1 or PKD2 but a harmful IFT 140 variant which also causes the disease.

@@jillf24 Roughly 78% of all autosomal polycystic kidney disease patients have the PKD1 gene. Roughly 15% have the PKD2 gene. The remaining 7% have another bad gene. I'm one of the 7% who have one of the less common bad genes that cause the same type of disease. There are companies that do saliva DNA tests to find bad genes which are relevant to kidney disease. I had my test ordered by a nephrologist who was trying to determine the reasons for abnormal scan results related to the kidneys.

I got diagnosed with PKD in my mid twenties without symptoms I just requested the test bc I have family history does that mean that my chances of being on dialysis by the age of 40 still count

How can we know, if I have pkd1 or pkd2 ? Please, iam 48 years old before 5 years , I found out I have pkd so till now my kidney is in normal size , and blood pressure is normal It's good sign??

Hi @abedkader,To fing out pkd 1 or pkd2, you will need to get the genetic test done ,normal blood pressure and normal kidney size is very good sign, drink lots of water, low sodium diet ,plant base diet , regular workout is the key.

The bit at 2:57 where you say if you get diagnosed before 30, your kidney survival is 10 years faster. I don’t understand? 10 years fast as in your kidneys will be doomed 10 years sooner than if you get diagnosed after 30? Please advise! I was diagnosed at 2 years old 😅

10 years faster (=earlier) to ending up on dialysis if you are diagnosed before the age of 30 compared to being diagnosed after the age of 30. But it's all individual. I know a person who was diagnosed before 30 and she is 77 and not on dialysis. She does water cure in Capvern Les Bains in France every year.
